FROM DEACON CHORDAS . . . FROM THE PASTOR

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It is hard to believe that another school year has come to a close. We had graduation on this past Monday. The children in our Academy did very well. I am so very proud of them. I am also very thankful to our faculty and staff, to the parents, and to each of you, who through so many sacrifices, makes Catholic educa-tion possible for our young people. Thank you one and all.

This weekend we are celebrating Trinity Sunday. It gives us the opportunity to reflect upon the Faith that we hold dear. There are certain truths—which we profess in the Creed—that form the foundation of our beliefs. The Trinity is our basic Christian Doc-trine and is presented throughout our readings at Mass.

We are also celebrating Father’s Day! Sincerest wishes go out to all of our Fathers, Grandfathers and Godfathers! May today be a day filled with many blessings for you. St. Joseph, pray for us.

Finally, please keep the members of the Society of the Sacred Heart in your prayers. We are on retreat this weekend. Please be assured of our prayers for you as well.

May God’s blessings be yours this Pentecost.

Father Ireland

Your Dad

A high school student asked me a question of what fears do I have. What a loaded question to ask of me. I had to be honest. I admit I had to think a bit before I answered. Young people can see right through our answers and easily pick out the “snow job.”

I answered simply: “my children and grandchildren.” They will get hurt and have gotten hurt, and I can’t save them.

Your dad worries about that too, you know, at night when you are asleep. He stands at your bedside and watches you sleep. I re-member doing that so often, and now I treasure watching my grandchildren when they are asleep. That also gives my wife and I a chance to catch our breath.

What do we worry about? That we won’t get to be the greatest person in this world. We are scared. What if we get hit by a car, or get involved in drugs and alcohol, or have a bad marriage? We think that our dad is always so stern, on our backs about home-work, cell phones, going to church, taking responsibility for our actions, etc. But we don’t see him at our beds at night both terri-fied and loving.

We say we are going up to check that the kids are asleep, to turn down the heat or turn off the light. Some of us cry and some pray and some do both at once. Some guys bend down and tuck their kids in, but most of us try to get it together again before we go downstairs and say: “I think they are all asleep.”

Good dads never stop loving you no matter what your age. Good dads stand together to protect and preach. Dads are true friends: they teach us to be generous but not to count the cost; they teach us to fight for what is right and not to worry about the wounds. My dad taught me to work hard and ask for no reward except that of knowing I am doing the will of the Lord.

Give your father a hug and a kiss if you can. If he has already died, do it anyway in your heart. Don’t forget to do the same for mom, and thank her for saying yes to such a great guy.

Next week, on Sunday June 22, the Church cele-brates the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. We are planning to have our annual Corpus Christi procession after the 11:30 Mass that day.

All altar servers, children who made their First Communion this year, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Knights of Co-lumbus, and parish leaders are asked to attend the Mass and form the nucleus of the procession. Of course all other parishioners are most welcome to join them in processing around our grounds.

P ILGRIM STATUE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA

“Learn the message of Fatima! Live the message of Fatima! Spread the message of Fatima!” Pope Emeritus Benedict XV

On Saturday, June 28, the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we will be privileged to welcome the Diocesan Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Accompanying the statue will be a representative of the World Apostolate of Fatima who will speak briefly after the 4 p.m. Mass and then lead us in the Rosary. The Rosary will also be recited after all Masses on Sunday, June 29.

Please come and join in this devotion to Mary.

and submitted by children who used their offering envelopes last weekend .... (Reproduced as the children wrote them.)

I helped my sister when she was home sick with a fever and a cold. I went to church and calmed down during the car ride there so I could worship prayerfully. I was extra nice during the last day of school because I knew I wouldn’t see my classmates a lot after 8th grade.

Thank you, children, for sharing these. Father Ireland

Novena to the Infant Jesus

The 2013-2014 school year is officially over.

Students have passed from grade to grade, and some of them have passed through the hallowed halls of our Academy for the last time as a student.

Eighth graders graduated last Monday and are now looking forward to beginning their high school careers: 3 students to Brush, 1 to Hawkin, 1 to Mayfield, and the rest dispersed to area Catholic high schools. We wish them much success, and we hope they will continue to be part of us through weekend Mass attendance and, of course, attending the annual Parish Festival with family and friends.

Again this year, members of the faculty and I will be selling raffle tickets at the Festival on July 10-13. We hope you will stop by and say “hello.” William DiBacco, Principal

Weeding??? Watering??? Planting??? Trimming???

These outdoor activities to beautify our grounds and keep what we have already planted alive are available for the asking.

Please share your love of God’s nature with your parish commu-nity. Call the Parish Office (216.382.7601) today to find out how you can become part of our Gardening Group.

2014 PARISH FESTIVAL . . .

Did you stop by the table at the back of Church to pick up your envelope of raffle tickets? If not, please do so today. The boxes are clearly marked with letters of the alphabet. Your envelope of tickets is filed by the letter of your last name.

We depend upon all of our families to buy or sell their tickets. The proceeds of the annual Festival provides the funding, beyond the tuition payments, that is required to keep our Academy operational. It is THE major parish fundraiser. Please sup-port it in any way you are able.

The community of South Euclid-Lyndhurst, and surrounding cities look forward to our Festival every year. Our reputation for providing a fine, fun-filled event, is well-earned. Our volunteers are dedicated to making the Festival a success. If you are not yet committed to working a shift or two over the 4 days of the event, please return the sign-up sheet included with your tick-ets, or in person after Mass next weekend or the weekend of June 21 and 22.

See you July 10, 11, 12 and/or 13 !!

Monday morning Bible Study will continue until further notice. We hope to gather throughout the summer. New members are al-ways welcome … 10 o’clock in Mary’s Room. Just stop in. All are welcome!!
