HERE’S HOW THEY WORK:Unlike static rollers that depend on theweight of the machine to generate theforces required to compress materials, Sakaivibratories introduce a dynamic force thathelps to generate a high compaction effectwith far less effort at far less cost.

This dynamic force is created by rotating anoff-balanced weight within a steel compact-ing drum. Thisrotation developsa centrifugal forcethat is sufficientto lift and dropthe heavy steeldrum as it moves through its cycle. Thiscycle repeats itself from 28 to 67 times per second as the machine moves across the material surface.

These dynamic forces typically increase thecompacting force up to six times the actualstatic weight of the drum assembly whilehelping to rearrange the material particlesat the same time for a denser fit.

Like shaking up a box of corn flakes, this vibration rapidly moves the material parti-cles, reduces the air voids between them, increases the material contact points and

thus speeds compaction – in short, Sakai vibratory compactors increase density faster. Compaction is an extremely technical process. For more detailed infor-mation, ask for a copy of Sakai’s book entitled “Compaction Equipment – Theoryand Practice.”

COMPACTION CONTROL SYSTEMSakai’s Compaction Control System providesreal time, three-dimensional digital monitor-ing of soil energy feedback.

A precision acceleration sensor measures vertical variations at the compaction drum.These signals are thenprocessed and presentedin an easy-to-read formatright at the operator’s sta-tion. This information willavoid under- or overcom-paction of the materialand allow the operator tomake additional passes onan as needed basis.

EXACTCOMPACTTo optimize Sakai’s high-frequency rollers, it is important to maintain proper impactspacing. Roll too fast with any roller and impacts are spaced out. Too slow and productivity suffers. EXACTCOMPACT is an on-

board visual monitorof impact spacing thatuses easy-to-read colored lights.

Adjust ground speed for “Green” and you are right on target for

perfect impact spacing. EXACTCOMPACT andcompanion auto speed are standard on thethe SW880 and SW990.

TEMPERATURE-ON-THE-RUNSakai’s Temperature-on-the-Run Systemmonitors actual mat temperature in realtime right at the operator’sstation. It’s great fortoday’s temperature sensitive HMA mix designs.

No more manual guess-work. No more inaccurateand labor intensive guns.Temperature-on-the-Run isavailable for all Sakai asphaltrollers.

COMPACTION INFORMATION SYSTEMSakai’s new Compaction Information Systemis designed to improve compaction qualityand consistency on both soil and hot mixasphalt projects.

A simple touch screen on thecontrol panel enables the op-erator to quickly assess thelevel of compaction requiredor gained in real time on site.Special software enables theQC Manager to develop aplan for compaction, man-age the compaction data andutilize this data to documentresults. GPS is available tosend and receive data and to speed results.

Sakai’s introduction to the Intelligent Compaction process is available for use withall Sakai soil compactors and asphalt rollers.

Soil compaction drums are available in twobasic types – smooth and padfoot.

The smooth drums are generallythe choice for compaction of rock,gravel, sand, semi-cohesive soils

and everything in between.

Cohesive silts and clays typicallyneed far more force to move andcompact. Sakai padfoot drums effec-

tively penetrate these difficult materials, in-creasing the compaction forces per squareinch, enabling density to be achieved quickly.

Most areas of the world offer a vari-ety of soil types. For contractorsworking in these zones, Sakai offers

the combi drum (TF models) – a combina-tion of a padfoot drum for cohesive soils anda bolt-on smooth shell for other materials.

To reduce the costof backfilling andother light-dutydozer applications,Sakai offers anoptional strike-off blade (TB models), available with most soil models.

WHY SUPER HIGH FREQUENCY MAKES ADIFFERENCE – AND OTHER IMPORTANTASPHALT ROLLER INFO.Sakai offers more 4000 vpm – or vibrationsper minute – rollers than any other manu-facturer in the business.

Why is 4000 vpm important? Because thehigher the frequency, the faster the permissi-ble ground speed or the closer the impacts.This means you can reach density faster andgain bonuses rather than penalties.

By rotating its weights faster, Sakai generatesmore impacts per foot. With this added fea-ture, Sakai can attain the rule-of-thumb tenimpacts per foot necessary to reach densityat a ground speed of 4.55 mph. This speedtranslates directly into more work done anda better bottom line.

4000 vpm is now standard on 7 different Sakaimodels from 39” through 84” drum widths.
