Hundre d s o f lo c a l s attended a moving memorial service for Brian Parto Partington at the roxbylink auditorium last Wednesday.

Attendees included Mr Par-tingtons wife, Amanda, and their children Luke, Mitchell and Shae.

Other family members were also present, along with Mr Partingtons workmates, BHP Billiton Olympic Dam asset manager Darryl Cuzzubbo and Olympic Dam cricketers and footballers.

Reverend Ruth Buxton from the Parish of Port Lincoln led the

service, and was joined by Rev-erend Barry Luke, who serves as the Olympic Dam site chaplain.

Rev Buxton described the grief being felt by family and friends deeper than any mine.

Parto is at peace, she said during the memorial.

His body has returned to the earth and re-entered the great cycle of nature. His spirit lives on for we who knew him.

We will remember the person he was, and he will not die until we do.

Former OD Football Club president and long-time friend of Mr Partingtons, Peter Lindner, and Olympic Dam development crew representative Giorgio DallArmi gave the eulogies.

Partington was one of the pillars of the development team.

A slideshow including family photographs and video snippets of an old interview with Mr Par-tington was played at the con-clusion of the memorial service.

Staff members from The Monitor attended the service but were asked to refrain from taking photographs on the day.

Following the service, an afternoon tea was provided before another gathering was later held at the OD football clubrooms.

Dunlop dealership closedR oxby Downs Tyre and Alignment, a Dunlop dealership, closed its doors for the last time last week.

An employee told e Monitor customers had been asked to col-lect any products awaiting pick-up before 8pm last Wednesday.

When asked why the business was closing, the employee said

it was up to the business owner, Kurt Richardson, to answer that question.

Mr Richardson is currently fac-ing drug charges and is set to ap-pear in court next month.

Roxby Downs Tyre and Align-ment had only opened one year ago, when it replaced Beaure-paires on Gosse Street. Its ser-vices included wheel alignment, tyre fi tting and brake suspension.

AutoPro still has fuel in the tankWRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

AutoPro manager Jessica McKinnon is assuring locals the store is here to stay, despite rumours that it would be the next business to close.

The store has been in Roxby Downs for 10 years and relocated to Tutop Street about 18 months ago.

    Ms McKinnon said the move

had worked wonders for the business.

It is tough times in Roxby Downs at the moment, but you still have to be positive, she said.

e moves been good, some-thing we needed to do. It has defi -nitely helped us with our range and the things we can do.

It has helped increase our cus-tomer base as well.

Ms McKinnon said customers had remarked that the shop was comparable to an Adelaide store.

Her family has owned the local AutoPro for 10 years and she has managed for four, and Ms McK-innon said this was the reason she refused to give up.

My family has put too much work into this place to simply walk away, she said.

It is quiet, but there are still people here.

It just means you have to fi nd a way to keep your customer base or even increase it.

A donation of $1000 from the Roxby Community Postie Bash committee has helped see a long jump pit and shot put area installed at the small oval this week.

Local resident Bill Natt came up with the idea in the hope of start-ing up a little athletics program.

ings like little athletics and karate are good for kids, he said.

Little athletics is teaching them to run and use their body. ey can then take this into their other sports such as footy, where they need to sprint to take off after the ball or jump to take a mark.

Roxby Community Postie Bash committee vice chairperson Peter Marks said the donation of $1000 was made using proceeds from last years Bash.

is is the whole reason we set the Postie Bash up, to put some money back into projects within the community, he said.

e event has been running for three years now, and in that time has raised $80,000 to $100,000, purely for the Andamooka and Roxby Downs community.

Local contractor MPS Build-ing & Electrical has also come on board to help install the long jump pit and the shot put area by pro-

viding the labour and supplies to get everything in place.

It is a good cause, and it is help-ing the kids and they will get good use out of it, said MPS building supervisor Ryan Moritz.

Our directors (Kym Elliot and Brett Rudiger) are both locals and their kids have grown up here, so they know what its like to want to have things for their kids.

It also gets the kids up and about and being active.

Mr Moritz said he was pleased to see all the help the project had received, as it would have been impossible without this support.

Roxby Traders Mitre 10 also provided supplies towards the pro-ject as did Wholesome Australia, which provided the crusher dust and sand.

St Barbaras and Roxby Downs Area School (RDAS) are also get-ting behind the project, with both schools aiming to use the new ath-letics area on their sports days.

Both the long jump pit and shot put area are set to be ready in time for the RDAS sports day, which has been rescheduled to tomorrow.

This project is just one of many funded by the 2014 Postie Bash, with around $44,000 raised through last years event.

Mr Marks said he was expect-ing to host just as big an event in 2015, with an annual general meeting to be held in the coming weeks to kick off the planning and preparation.

Roxby Council has been conducting its annual sewerage clean-up around town, including a focus on Pioneer Drive and Stewart Road.

Council monitors blockages and build-ups in the sewerage pipes all year, and annually identifi es problem areas to be cleaned out when the timing is right.

We do this once a year, just focusing on the problem areas, said Roxby Council water and sewerage manager Shane Mills.

We have cameras that we check on a weekly basis. is gives us an idea of the areas we need to fi x.

ere have been problems with a house on Pioneer Drive, and we have identifi ed a block on Stewart Road, which is tradition-ally a problem area.

Mr Mills said there was no set date to when these clean-ups happened each year in order to reduce costs.

He said council scheduled the works for when one of its two preferred cleaning companies would be coming through the area.

F ederal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has welcomed the Australian Governments decision to invite voluntary site nominations for a national radioactive waste management facility.

Landholders in all states and terri-tories can nominate land for a facility to safely store Australias intermediate level waste, and dispose of low-level waste, under the National Radioactive Waste Management Act 2012.

Under the Howard Government, a plan to store nuclear waste in Woomera was overturned in the Fed-eral Court by the Rann Labor Gov-ernment in 2004, Mr Ramsey said.

Consequently the issue is still un-resolved, and the materials that Mr Rann claimed were too dangerous to be buried at one of the worlds best sites near Woomera still lie in hospital basements and x-ray clinics all over Adelaide.

Australia has 4248 cubic metres of low level and 656 cubic metres of intermediate level waste in temporary storage.

e Government is committed to taking responsibility for this waste, which is a by-product of world-lead-ing medical, research and industrial processes that benefi t all Australians.

Mr Ramsey said an Independent Advisory Panel had been established by the Department of Industry and Science to assist with assessing nomi-nations and advising the Government on which sites may be suitable for a facility.

He said possible storage sites would be assessed against important criteria and objectives including community well-being; stable environment; envi-ronmental protection; health, safety and security; and economic viability. Extensive public consultation will be undertaken during every stage of the project.

Once the nomination and the pre-ferred site identifi cation are complete, the Government will negotiate with the landholder of the selected site.

e Government will also engage with the community in closest prox-imity to the selected site and will dis-cuss a package of benefi ts in recog-nition of the potential construction and operational requirements of the facility, Mr Ramsey said.

Site nominations close on Tuesday, May 5, at 5pm. For more information, visit: www.radioactivewaste.gov.au

John Wilby was elected to be the Business Forums new chairperson during its monthly meeting last week.

Mr Wilby is taking over from Laura Trotta, who stepped down at the end of 2014 after three years in the role.

is is Mr Wilbys fi rst year on the forum.

It is going to be a challenge, but I am looking forward to achieving a few things with the community and local businesses, he said.

Hopefully we can all work together and reach our goals.

Mr Wilby currently owns three businesses in Roxby Downs and Olympic Dam with the help of his wife Katalin Wilby and local woman Stacey Dadleh.

He said he believed he could bring some of his experience and expertise to the business forum.

I have been here for a while and seen the town grow from scratch to what it is now, so hopefully business-es and the community have a few ideas so we can continue to grow, he said.

Sandy Sumsion, who has retained her role as deputy chairperson, said she was more than happy to help Mr Wilby through his new role.

She said it will be benefi cial to have an experienced businessperson in the role, considering the concerning state of the local economy.

Unless something changes we are going to see it fi zzle out, she said.

(Being chairperson) is a diffi cult gig with all the diff erent businesses and meeting all needs.

But with a new committee we can form a few sub-committees and work on those little ideas and how to work on them with retailers.

    Th e Au s t r a l i a n Mines and Metals A s s o c i a t i o n (AAMA) has been talking with Olympic D a m c o n t r a c t o r s quarterly for a number of years, but is now looking at servicing Roxby Downss small business community.

AMMA is a national resource industry em-ployer group focusing on human resources, inte-grated research, employ-ee relations and training courses.

We are looking at in-creasing our work with small businesses so we can help them more, A MM A west coast membership manager Kristian Stratton told e Monitor.

We h a v e b e e n working with the major contractors at Olympic Dam in human resources and those kinds of areas, and we are now looking to broaden to small businesses.

Every quarter we are here, so why not do

more? It gives us a better understanding of what is going on in the region.

With more than 300 members Australia-wide, Mr Stratton said it was important for AMMA to understand what was happening on the ground.

He said being involved with small businesses in regional centres would helped achieve this.

Mr Stratton sat in on last weeks Business Fo-rum meeting and said he was impressed, de-

scribing it as a unique structure.

It is a good little group, very strong, he said.

ey are working on their strategic plan, so they have made the right start and they have a vi-sion for the future.

Mr Stratton said it was not all doom and gloom for businesses as long as they had a represent-ative group to support them.

    Guidance offered to small businesses

A pair of Roxby Downs Scouts Group members who are set to represent their troupe in Japan are running a fundraiser at the golf club this Saturday.

Sharleen Lloyd and her daughter Jasmyn are heading to the Scouts World Jamboree in Kirara-hama from July 18 to August 13.

With the trip costing $12,000 between the two of them, the golf day will just be the start of their fundraising eff orts.

e day will kick off at 4pm at the Roxby Downs Golf Club, with teams of four participating in a nine-hole ambrose competition.

Cost is $40 per team or $10 per person, with registrations to be made on the day from 3.30pm.

Mrs Lloyd said local man Harry Nolls golf buggy would be up for auction ahead of the competition for those who dont want to walk.

A barbecue tea ($5 per plate, in-cludes meat and salad) and chil-

drens activities (including cup decorating at a cost of $2) will also be provided, with Mrs Lloyd encouraging non-golfers to come along as well.

e Japan trip will be Jasmyns second world jamboree, having at-tended last years in Fiji, and she is already itching to go again.

I loved it, it was so cool, she said.

I am starting to get excited, it is getting closer, but I just want it to hurry so I can get there.

Jasmyn will be attending the jamboree as a Scout, while Mrs Lloyd will be going as a leader, meaning they will be separated into diff erent groups.

However, they say they are just looking forward to being involved in such a large Scouts event.

Its a place you dont go to nor-mally as a family, Mrs Lloyd said.

For Jazzy, when she gets back she is fi nishing Scouts, so this will be her last jamboree before she moves on to boarding school.

More than 33,000 Scouts from all over the world are set to con-verge for the three-week event, and Jasmyn is only one of 13 South Australians attending.

e Scouts will meet in Tokyo, where they will spend fi ve days together, before heading to Kir-ara-hama for the 10-day jamboree.

Attendees will spend another two or three days with a Japanese family before fl ying home.

I think the home hospitality is going to be really cool, Jasmyn said.

I have always liked meeting Scouts from diff erent countries their diff erent uniforms, diff erent activities, just the basic stuff they do.

e Scouts at these things are usually pretty wild and crazy as well, so its going to be fun.

For more information about the golf day, contact Sharleen Lloyd on 0438 502 471.

Local woman Erica Williamson says it was easy for her to put together a photograph for the #innerselfi e project because the items she loves are always within reach.

Roxby Council is encourag-ing women to express themselves through a collection of objects as part of the South Australian Body Image Campaign.

e campaign, run by the Offi ce for Women, aims to educate girls and young women that their value comes from their character, skills and attributes not their weight or shape.

The #innerselfie project invites participants to take a photograph of objects that symbolise who they are

and what they are passionate about.Mrs Williamson said she first

heard about the project via an email from the Roxby Downs Community Board.

It looked fun, and I thought some of my friends might like to know more of my interests, she said.

It was quite easy because the things I love are always within easy reach.

e only thing I battled a little with was the car to fi nd a toy car when your sons have long ago out-grown them can prove diffi cult.

Mrs Williamson has two sons Colin, 23, and Alistair, 14.

She said the Frank Sinatra CD and Gone With the Wind DVD repre-sented her love for classic songs and movies, and her mobile phone was pictured because no woman could do without her social networking tool.

e framed picture demonstrates Mrs Williamsons passion for horses, as she used to participate in show jumping.

The Memorable Meals book re-fl ects her passion for cooking and entertaining, and the cruise ship brochure is pictured because she would love to go on a cruise and at the same time see more ofAustralia.

e car, an Aston Martin, shows meand my husband Shauns love for beautiful and fast cars, Mrs Wil-liamson said.

To participate in the #innerself-ie project, share your photograph on social media using the hashtags #bodyimage and #innerselfi e and email a copy to: [email protected]

    EDITORIALBy Ryneisha Bollard

Anyone who has volunteered before would be familiar with the various benefi ts that doing so can provide to not just their community but also to their individual well-being.

Roxby Downs is such a transitional town that we seem to always be welcoming residents to the community.

For newcomers, volunteering is a great way to develop friendships with like-minded locals, thus creating a support network and ties to the community that they may be unable to fi nd elsewhere.

ose who have lived here longer may feel

like their schedules are already too full. However, it is important to consider that

volunteering can provide individuals with an opportunity to challenge themselves, learn new skills and boost their job opportunities by adding important depth to their resumes.

For parents, volunteering as a family can be a way of teaching children the importance of community involvement and helping others in need.

For locals seeking a confi dence boost, volun-teering can help with self-esteem and having a sense of purpose in life.

Doing good deeds for others creates a sense of accomplishment and pride.

And while youre at it, youre also helping to improve your town and local community.

e Roxby Downs Community Board knows this, and that is why it has been giving out the Volunteer of the Month award since 2008.

The board is continuing this important recognition of local volunteers in 2015, with online nominations now open (www.roxby-downs.com/Community/c-volunteers.html).

Meanwhile National Volunteer Week will also be doing its part from May 11-17.

Established in 1989, the event is Australias largest celebration of volunteers. It provides an opportunity to thank the more than 6 million Australians who volunteer.

So if youre not already a volunteer, perhaps its time you became one.

You wont just be helping others; youll be doing yourself a favour as well.

It is a little bitter sweet, though, having had 16 kids try out (and not all of them making it), but it will be good for them just to have had the experience under their belt, and there is al-ways next year.

This is the first time Roxby Downs students will feature in the opening dance, with auditions only being held in Adelaide up until this year and students una-ble to make the trip.

Ms Chamberlain said par-ticipating in the CanDance for a Cure concerts opening act would be a positive experience for her students.

    They are very excited, she

said. ey will get to do extra things, learn from other teachers and meet other kids.

ey have worked very hard already, and I know they are very capable.

CanDance for a Cure artistic director Rachael Adcroft will travel to Roxby Downs to work with the students another two or three times before the concert.

e students will also make a number of trips to Adelaide for rehearsals, practising with assis-tance from a video of the dance in the meantime.

The outstanding achievements of individuals, groups and organisations in the Far North region are set to be recognised via the 2015 South Australian Regional Awards.

Nominations opened last week for the pro-gram, which gave out 259 awards in 2014.

e program received more than 2300 nominations and 646 entries last year, mak-ing it one of the most successful yet.

Brand South Australia chief executive of-fi cer Karen Raff en said she wanted this year to be even bigger.

Every day South Australians in regional communities achieve incredible things in their personal lives, businesses and community groups, she said. But those

achievements too often go unrecognised. is award program shines a light on

those achievements and celebrates the amazing people behind them.

e program attracts a huge amount of media attention each year, and provides well-deserved recognition for nominees and award winners for the tireless work they do in their communities.

I hope that all South Australians get behind the regional awards this year, and I encourage anybody who knows someone doing inspiring work in their business or community to submit a nomination.

Individuals, groups and businesses living, working or based in regional South Austral-ia can be nominated, either by themselves or another person.

Nominations can be made online (www.brandsouthaustralia.com.au) and will close Friday, May 1.

The Roxby Downs Multicultural Forum is up for a state honour in recognition of last years successful World Food and Music Festival.

e forum is a fi nalist in the arts and culture category of the Governors Mul-ticultural Awards.

Grace Morokai was the forum chair at the time before recently stepping down from her role.

Ms Morokai said she and forum mem-ber Sasha Yantewo would be attending the awards ceremony in Adelaide next Tuesday.

Were really honoured to be part of it, she said.

After first being held in 2012, the

World Food and Music Festival returned to Roxby Downs last October.

e event included various musical performances from local and visiting acts, along with stalls representing dif-ferent cultures through food and other products.

e fi rst one we didnt know what to expect, but it came out really nice, Ms Morokai said.

e second one was defi nitely better. e crowd we got was amazing.

Ms Morokai said the event demon-strated the diversity of cultures in Roxby Downs, where more than 40 nationalities are represented.

We are all diverse, but we are one community, she said.

We come from diff erent backgrounds, diff erent cultures, but we are all the same people.

The Arts & Culture Forum last year started running adult community art classes in the roxbylink art gallery on the last Wednesday evening of each month.

e classes have been very popular, with a number of sessions selling out last year.

e opportunity for an hour or so of en-joyment and learning, surrounded by the gallerys current exhibition, has been a hit, and new participants are always welcome.

This months class, back by popular request, is another crochet session with local expert Jo Gordon.

Jos class last year created such great interest we are having a second one for

anyone who missed out last year or for those who would like to expand their cro-chet skills.

It will be held on Wednesday, March 25, and costs $10, which includes all ma-terials.

It was great to see so many new faces and some new nominations for positions on the committee.

Already there have been some fantastic suggestions and ideas raised for us to discuss and review at our next meeting.

is is a great start, and we hope that the momentum will continue on throughout 2015.

e forum will be hosting more training opportunities, along with business network-ing breakfasts and the Gala Business Awards for 2015.

The Roxby Downs Community Board has an array of forums encompassing the many interests of the community, and now includes a Family Forum.

e forum has recently been re-invigor-ated, with a public meeting held to discuss the issues the forum can address.

Roxby Downs is full of families, espe-cially parents with children between 0 and 18 years.

Every individual belongs to a family, and we will benefi t from being encouraged and equipped to be the best families we can be.

Mary Lewis has been part of the re-in-vention of the forum as she is on the Com-munity Board and has a strong interest in this area.

Mary said: e forum wants to address the issues that families identify themselves as being important.

It will be important for the forum to listen to all ages and all shapes of family.

e formation of the forum initially de-veloped out of concerns for young people in town children under 15.

e concerns for these young people range from many diff ering areas such as lack of adult supervision at night, alcohol

misuse, underage drug and alcohol use, extended parents rosters leaving children unsupervised over long periods of time, disengaged youth and parenting issues where parents are unsure how to help their kids.

e Family Forum would also like to see the connection and co-ordination increased between the diff erent services within the community that provide activi-ties and services to Roxby children, youth and families.

e Family Forum is looking for commu-nity members that have a passion and drive to be a part of the changes they want to see within the community to improve and aid Roxby families.

is forum is still to take shape, said Mary.

Now is the time to join in and speak up to make it a forum that serves the families of Roxby Downs appropriately and com-prehensively.

If you want to get involved in the forum, the fi rst offi cial meeting will be held tomor-row at 7.30pm in the council boardroom.

For more information, contact Joel Hill ([email protected] or 0433 792 450) or Mary Lewis (0401 569 224 or [email protected]).

    Andamookas water dispenser should be back to normal o p e r a t i o n a f t e r t h e installation of new parts that were set to arrive last Friday.

e two-inch side of the dispens-er stopped working on ursday, February 19, and a part needed to

be ordered in before it could be fi xed.

Meanwhile some of the connec-tions to the new control unit ap-pear to be faulty and also need to be replaced.

Andamooka community admin-istrator Deb Allen said just about all the parts within the dispenser had been replaced following major damage to the tank late last year.

It has been an ongoing problem

since the catastrophic failure last year, she said.

Lots of things have been re-placed, there have been parts found corroded, so hopefully this will be the last item (we have to replace).

e problems fi rst started when hex head screws on the dispens-er were left exposed and became caught on the water casing from a truck as it positioned itself to accept water.

is twisted the internal pipe, causing it to break and render the dispenser unusable.

Ms Allen said this fi nal piece re-placed was the telemetry system, which was the brains of the ma-chine.

Ms Allen said she hoped the new part would solve the water dispens-ers functionality issues.

It does diff erent things at diff er-ent times, she said.

It is unpredictable. At the mo-ment it is causing problems on the two-inch side and has been causing problems on the four-inch side as well.

People will come up and swipe their tag and it wont work, then the next person will come up and swipe their tag and it will work.

Every component has been re-placed now, so hopefully this will fi x it.

S tudents at Andamooka Primary School together with attendees of the Rural Childrens Centre are learning about more than just gardening as part of a new project.

Principal Debbie Pagsanjan said the two planter boxes installed in the play area recently would be used to enhance the classroom experience.

Children have so far installed native lilly pillies to act as a natu-ral shelter for the herbs and veg-etables they will plant once the weather cools down.

Ms Pagsanjan said the project would complement the schools mathematics and science studies by teaching students about things like evaporation and measuring plant growth.

Meanwhile younger children will benefit by learning about teamwork and developing basic gardening skills.

The project was made possi-ble through a donation from the Roxby Community Postie Bash committee as part of delivering the proceeds from last years event to various local community organ-isations.

Ms Pagsanjan said she hoped to attract further external funding to eventually establish a com-munity garden on the school grounds.

We imagine it would be a fairly sustainable garden, she added.

    Towns water woes nally over?

The Andamooka Progress and Opal Miners Association (APOMA) has activities planned for all ages as part of the towns 85-year reunion.

Former and current residents, along with visitors from Roxby Downs and elsewhere, are being invited to enjoy four days of fun and reminiscing over the Easter long weekend (April 3-6).

e recently updated program includes a tour of the Andamooka Primary School and Rural Childrens Centre on the Friday from 4pm to 5pm and APOMA welcome barbecue at the historic cottages at 6pm.

Another school tour will be held on the Saturday from 9am to 10am before the Andamooka Market Day from 10am to 2pm and a buff et dinner at Tuckabox from 6pm.

e local church will host a community barbecue at the town playground from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on the Sunday, when activities will include an egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bilby.

Meanwhile opal fi eld tours will be operating from the historic cottages between 12 noon and 2pm.

e weekend will end with a morning tea hosted by the Andamooka Hospital Auxiliary at the historic cottages on the Monday from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Andamooka community member Katalin Wilby said all were welcome to take part in the festivities.

e community of Andamooka would like to invite all their old acquaintances of years gone by and the communities of Roxby Downs/Woomera to come and help us celebrate at our 85-year reunion, she said.

If there is anyone who hasnt been to an Anda-mooka Easter weekend, this would be a great way for them to see what we have on off er, and a chance for us to showcase our hospitality and what there is on off er to do here.

We will be having a fun-fi lled weekend with lots of fun things for the children and also adults, catching up with old friends and acquaintances and also hopefully making new ones along the way.

Locals visiting the town oval recently may have noticed a lack of football goals. With the start of football season

only a month away, this could be cause for concern.

However, Roxby Councils oval and golf course superintendent Wade Hooper said newer, bigger posts would be erected in the com-ing weeks.

e posts will go in in the next couple of weeks so they have a good chance to settle before the start of the season, he said.

Mr Hooper said the replacement goals would be bigger than the old ones to comply with new Australi-an Football League standards.

Workers from local contractor Monadelphous were called in to help with the removal of the old goal posts, and Hooper thanked them for their assistance.

ey were very cool about it all, he said.

I called them ursday after-noon and by Saturday morning they were out and all done with no fuss.

CONTINUED FROM BACK PAGE e fi xture between the Comets and WT

Birkalla is part of the Football Federation SAs Regional Round, which involves a num-ber of Premier League games being played in regional centres across South Australia.

Both Karatzas and De Giovanniello said they loved the idea of having a regional round.

It is fantastic, said Karatzas. It is the best thing the FFSA has done.

It is great to have the Regional Round, and hopefully one day we can have one

weekend where every single Premier League match is played at a regional centre.

Football is a growing sport, so it is im-portant to get out into the remote areas more because it is better for the young kids.

Last year players were signing balls, tak-ing pictures with young kids and they were asking questions. ings like that spur kids on to go home and kick a soccer ball around in their backyard.

De Giovanniello said he hoped these re-gional rounds would result in young play-ers from these centres coming to Adelaide

and playing for Premier League clubs in the future.

Both teams will be eager to add to their tally with the Comets and WT Birkalla cur-rently in similar positions with two wins and one loss.

Karatzas said games between these two clubs were usually tight and he was expect-ing now diff erent this time round.

We will both be out there to go full bore, this is not an exhibition match, he said.

Hopefully we can get a few more out and entertain them with a good game of soccer.

New season at the riseBy Patrick GloverThe 2015 season has kicked off at the Roxby Downs

Motocross Club (RDMXC), and there are plenty of things to consider as we look at whats ahead.

We are looking at releasing three local race dates in coming weeks. These will be focussed purely on locals, with bikes available to come and have a go on.

The format will be plain and simple turn up and we will make some classes among those who attend and have some fun racing.

On top of the standard race classes, we are hoping we can get a pit bike class, a quad class and even a postie bike class to make it more appealing to a wider audience.

The track will be fully prepped for these race days, with food and beverages available all day.

Looking later into the year, we still havent decided on our night meeting because of the low sponsorship dollars currently available and the downturn in people living in town.

We understand the night meet has become an iconic event, not just here but across SA, so we will be working extremely hard to raise some funds and pull on every bit of local support from businesses as we can in 2015.

We are already looking at various entertainment options outside of motocross racing to get people out to the track.

O lympic Dam remains undefeated for the Roxby Districts Cricket Association season after its win against Hornridge on the weekend.

e victory was secured despite OD requiring four substitute players on Saturday night.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl fi rst, OD had Hornridge out for 102 in the 37th over.

Lewis Heinrich was fi ve for eight, Lucas Hol-brook three for eight and Wade Hooper one for 17 plus a run out, which ricocheted off Adrian Harriss shin into the stumps.

A strong eff ort in the fi eld backed up ODs bowlers.

e side got off to a poor start at the bat, being two for zero and then three for 11 with Scott Prior, Heinrich and Brendan Hill falling quickly.

Ryan Bennett (39) and Craig Nichols steadied the ship.

Once Nichols departed, fi ll-in Port Pirie local Leroy Warwick (23no) came to the crease.

He and Bennett saw OD get to 92 before Michael Shaw got the side over the line with a solid four.

N ational Premier League soccer will return to Roxby Downs on Saturday, March 28, with the Adelaide Comets to again take on West Torrens Birkalla.

Last years game ended in a nil-all draw but the coaches who both boast young, energet-ic squads predict a diff erent result this year.

We both have similar groups, young groups, with youn g and exciting players that like attacking and like scoring, West Torrens (WT) Birkalla coach Steven De Giovanniello told e Monitor.

e coaches are like that in the way they coach as well.

If the fi rst three games are anything to go by we have scored four goals in our fi rst game, two in our second and three in our last

match, so we have scored nine goals in three matches I cant see it being a nil-nil draw again.

While De Giovanniello is new to the WT Birkalla coaching role, his opponent, Comets coach Jim Karatzas, made the trip to Roxby Downs last year.

Karatzas said he and his team were well re-ceived by Roxby Downs locals, and commend-ed the large crowd that came to watch, along

with the offi cials for organising the event.Defi nitely we enjoyed coming up here last

year, he said.De Giovanniello said he was looking for-

ward to experiencing a match in Roxby Downs.

e players that came last year spoke very highly of it, and said it was the biggest crowd at any of the regional matches, he said.
