� To ensure that personnel can safely and quickly escape from the E/R to the lifeboat and life raft embarkation deck

Means of Escape - E/R

h Two widely separated means of escape should be provided.

h One of the following provisions shall be complied with ;

Two sets of steel ladders widely separated leading to doors in the upper part of the E/R similarly separated.

From these doors access to open deck is to be provided.

One of these ladders shall be located within a protected trunk from the lower part of the E/R to a safe position outside the E/R.

The trunk is to be insulated to class A-60 towards the E/R.

Self-closing doors with the same fire rating shall be fitted in the trunk.

The ladder shall be fixed in such a way that heat is not transferred into the enclosure through non-insulated fixing points.

One steel ladder leading to a door in the upper part of the space from which access is provided to open deck.

A steel door capable of being operated from each side

Which provides access to a safe escape route to open deck.

B)

Additionally, in the lower part of the E/R and in a position well separated from the ladder:

h The emergency escape trunk shall

h The inclination of the E/R ladders should be not more than 60°.

- Have minimum internal dimensions of 800mm×800 mm- Be provided with emergency lighting.

Emergency Escape Breathing Device (EEBD)

Means of Escape - E/R

q For the E/R emergency breathing devices should be provided along escape routes, in ECR and workshops. (ref. MSC/Circ. 849 & MSC/Circ.1081)

q An EEBD is a supplied air or oxygen device only usedfor escape from a compartment that has a hazardous atmosphere

q EEBD to be of Approved Type

Means of Escape - E/R

h Particulars:

- Hood or full face piece to project the eyes, nose and mouth during escape.

- Hood or face piece to be constructed of flame resistant material and include a clear window for viewing.

- When stored the EEBD shall be protected from the environment.

- Instructions/Diagrams to be clearly printed on the EEBD. The donning procedures shall be quick and easy.

- Service Duration of at least 10 minutes.

h Number and Location of EEBD’s to be included on Fire Control Plan

- Maintenance Requirements- Manufacturer’s Trademark and Serial Number- Shelf Life- Manufacture Date- Approving Authority - All EEBD Training Units to be clearly Marked

h Spare EEBD’s shall be kept onboard
