Harvey County East Park offers 1,300 sprawling acres of
family fun on the edge of the Flint Hills, 6 miles east of
Newton.
A 314-acre lake blends its tree-lined shady shores with an
abundance of space for fishing, swimming, boating and
personal watercraft. The lake offers the angler a variety of
fishing options
including channel
cat, walleye,
saugeye, white
bass, largemouth
bass and crappie.
Campgrounds
surround all
around the water,
with a variety of electric hookups and primitive sites.
Playgrounds, a softball diamond and sand volleyball courts
are all in close proximity to camping areas. Three restrooms
– two of which are bathhouses – are available for patrons,
one in each main camping area.
Boating opportunities on the lake include water skiing,
pleasure boating, canoeing and kayaking, and of course,
fishing. Due to the size of the lake, there is a designated ski
route for pleasure boating and personal watercraft that
must be followed by all vessels, regardless of size. Canoes
and kayaks must remain in no-wake areas.
In addition, there are three swimming beaches, a climate-
controlled shelter (Volunteer Hall) and several open air
shelters for rent, and a mix of trails perfect for walking,
running, biking and horseback riding. The Osage Nature Trail
is also the home of the Indigent Persons Memorial.
Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the various trails,
fishing opportunities, beaches and picnic areas at the park.
All State of Kansas fishing license requirements and
regulations are
enforced. Pleasure
boating, horseback
riding and camping
are subject to fees.
Daily or seasonal
permits for these
activities can be
purchased at the
self-service booths located throughout the park or at the
park office. Seasonal permits are valid April 1 through
November 15.
Park Rangers are available for assistance and to answer
questions year-round. During the camping season Camp
Hosts are available 24/7.

Harvey County West Park is located 13 miles west and four miles
north of Newton and is the original Harvey County Park. It was
developed in the late 1930s in the Sand Hills of western Harvey
County on the Little Arkansas River.
Highlighted by wooded trails and the bends of the Little Arkansas
River, the 310-acre park offers a 16-acre fishing lake with channel
cat, largemouth bass and crappie. The Little Arkansas River offers
good flathead and channel cat fishing, and is accessible to small
boats and canoes. No gas motors are allowed on the lake. The
West Park Bait Shop is open seasonally to help supply visitors.
Campers will find a variety of campsites with electricity as well as
a number of primitive sites, both with access to restrooms and
bathhouses.
Hiking, biking and horseback trails at West Park can take
adventurers on paths with views of the lake, the river and through
shaded, wooded areas. In addition, West Park also offers a
softball diamond, playground equipment, outdoor volleyball
court, swimming beach and enclosed and open air shelters for
rent.
Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the fishing opportunities,
hiking trails, swim beach and picnic areas at the park. All State of
Kansas fishing license requirements and regulations are enforced.
Horseback riding and camping are subject to fees. Daily or

Just a quick drive southwest from Newton business districts, off
of both U.S. Highway 50 and I-135, Camp Hawk partners
recreation opportunities with spacious grounds to bring together
friends and family.
Camp Hawk is the only Harvey County park to feature a disc golf
course. The course winds throughout the park, providing a
nature tour that includes challenging throws around trees and
the four-acre fishing pond. Fishing in the pond requires a state-
issued fishing license.
The cabin-style shelter building at Camp Hawk can be rented
for social gatherings. The facility can host around 100 peo-
ple, and includes heating and air conditioning as well as a wood-
burning fireplace, restrooms and a kitchen equipped with a
stove, refrigerator and sink.
Camp Hawk visitors can also enjoy a playground, softball
diamond and outdoor, lighted basketball court. RV campsites are
limited, but do offer full hookups. There is plenty of room for
primitive camping. Camping is subject to a fee. Daily and
seasonal camping permits are available at the self-service booth
located just south of the rental shelter. Seasonal camping
permits are valid from April 1 to November 15.
