Harvey County East Park offers 1,300 sprawling acres of family fun on the edge of the Flint Hills, 6 miles east of Newton. A 314-acre lake blends its tree-lined shady shores with an abundance of space for fishing, swimming, boang and personal watercraſt. The lake offers the angler a variety of fishing opons including channel cat, walleye, saugeye, white bass, largemouth bass and crappie. Campgrounds surround all around the water, with a variety of electric hookups and primive sites. Playgrounds, a soſtball diamond and sand volleyball courts are all in close proximity to camping areas. Three restrooms two of which are bathhouses – are available for patrons, one in each main camping area. Boang opportunies on the lake include water skiing, pleasure boang, canoeing and kayaking, and of course, fishing. Due to the size of the lake, there is a designated ski route for pleasure boang and personal watercraſt that must be followed by all vessels, regardless of size. Canoes and kayaks must remain in no-wake areas. In addion, there are three swimming beaches, a climate- controlled shelter (Volunteer Hall) and several open air shelters for rent, and a mix of trails perfect for walking, running, biking and horseback riding. The Osage Nature Trail is also the home of the Indigent Persons Memorial. Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the various trails, fishing opportunies, beaches and picnic areas at the park. All State of Kansas fishing license requirements and regulaons are enforced. Pleasure boang, horseback riding and camping are subject to fees. Daily or seasonal permits for these acvies can be purchased at the self-service booths located throughout the park or at the park office. Seasonal permits are valid April 1 through November 15.
