What is the purpose of an apostolic visitation of the

seminaries?

An apostolic visitation visits seminaries to see how well the pro-

gram of each school prepares men to serve as priests. Though

infrequent, this is not an unusual event. A committee is assigned

to evaluate each school by looking at the curriculum, spiritual

formation program, faculty, student body, graduates, and mem-

bers of the local clergy and church. The visitors try to determine

whether the seminary program is upholding church teaching, us-

ing qualified instructors, and ultimately advancing the cause of

the Gospel. Like any other educational institution, a seminary

must meet objective goals, as well as show the spiritual formation

that sets it apart from a graduate school of theology.

Much has been made in the media about visitations, fueled by

rumor and a lack of knowledge about the process. Fears of per-

secution of gay students and suspect priests make good head-

lines. In fact, the visit deals with many issues, including how the

seminary deals with celibacy and sexual orientation. But it is not

the primary focus. An apostolic visitation is the church's version

of "quality control" in seminary formation.

KOC members have given so much

of their time and labor, prayers and

caring. They are always willing to lend

a helping hand when needed-and do

so in the spirit of our Blessed Mother

and our Lord. We thank them with all

our heart for their generous outpour-

ing of service to the community of St.

Jude Catholic Church. We are forever

grateful to you and pray that God will

reward each of you with many bless-

ings.

In Galatians 6:2, St. Paul

writes “Bear on another’s

burdens, and in this way

you will fulfill the law of

Christ.” Stephen Ministers are

given the opportunity to do just that,

and St. Jude Stephen Ministry is ex-

cited to announce a new training class

this fall for new Stephen Ministers. A

Stephen Minister is a caring, Christian,

Catholic friend who listens, cares,

prays, supports and encourages mem-

bers of the congregation who are ex-

periencing difficulties in their lives.

Stephen Ministers are carefully se-

lected and receive fifty hours of train-

ing in providing emotional and spiri-

tual care. Our pastor and deacons will

always be on the front lines of care,

especially during times of crisis, and

Stephen Ministers extend and support

the care they continue to provide. Dea-

con Alan will present an informational

meeting Thursday, August 30, from

7:00 pm to 9:30 pm in the Church

basement. Dates of the classes will be

forthcoming in the bulletin. Are you a

caring, compassionate person who

would like to share your time and tal-

ent? Is God calling you to be a Stephen

Minister? “Therefore encourage one

another and build up each other.” (1

Thessalonians 5:11)

Parish Picnic: Be certain to mark

your calendars now for this grand

event! St. Francis Circle members will

be selling Raffle Tickets after all masses

next weekend, July 14 & 15. Please

stop by our table and see the hand-

made prizes. Suggested donations are

$1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for

$5.00. Money goes to support the Par-

ish Picnic. Prizes will be drawn at the

picnic on Sunday, August 26, after the

11:00 Mass. Other picnic activities will

include karaoke (advance sign up will

be required – watch the bulletin for

details), face painting, fun games for

the kids and more! Note that the picnic

is NOT a fundraiser; it is an opportu-

nity to enjoy time together with our

parish family and friends!

The St. Jude choir will be sponsoring a

scriptural rosary novena Wednes-

day evenings at 6:30 pm through Au-

gust 8, by Mary’s Garden. All are wel-

come.

We hope you like the new landscap-

ing that beautifies the church! The

project was designed and supervised by Mark Turner, a landscape architect and a music minister here at St. Jude. Be-sides playing guitar (lead and bass) with Chenaniah and other groups over the years, Mark has owned his own land-scape design company for the last 25 years. He and his family (wife and two teenage girls) have been parishioners here at St. Jude for over 15 years. “I really loved the opportunity to donate my time to design a new landscape for our church. The new plantings really uplift the beautiful architecture of the building.” If you are interested in giv-ing your landscape a new look or need a design for a new home, please con-tact Mark at 303-929-9325 and visit his website: www.aspencreekdesign.com. Mark works on an hourly fee basis and can do a one hour landscape consulta-tion for those looking for new ideas to old problems. Thanks also go out to Gina Barta, who helped Mark with the project and has done such a beautiful job planting Mary’s Garden (in the second median from the entrance). She does a great job maintaining and keep-ing all of our grounds beautiful!

The Rosary to end abortion will

be prayed on Saturday, July 14, at 7:30

am at our Lady of Hope Statue in the

community center.

Youth Giving Bean coffee will be offered

after all Masses next weekend, July 14

& 15. Please receive your coffee from

us and help support the Youth for

World Youth Day!

Please pray for the ill of our parish:

Please pray for our deceased loved ones.

Sharing the Gospel People in his hometown did not believe that Jesus could be smart

enough to teach in their temples. They did not believe he could

heal. So he went to other towns to teach and heal. If someone

says that you are not smart enough or skilled enough, Jesus under-

stands. He will help you. Tell them, "I can do all things through

Christ who strengthens me."

Have you ever felt left out? Jesus did. In today's Gospel, Jesus

visited his relatives and old friends. These were the people he

grew up with, the people who knew him the best. All of a sudden

Jesus was not acting like he used to. They heard that Jesus was

healing people, raising people from the dead, and telling evil spir-

its to leave. Jesus was even teaching about God's kingdom, like he

really knew what he was talking about! Well, Jesus' old friends and

neighbors did not like it one bit. How sad for them. God's own

Son wanted to help them, but they didn't want it.

Prayer Lord, help me say to myself and others, "You can do it. God will

help."

Dear God, help me to listen to you and to accept the help that

you want to give me. Amen.

Something to Draw Draw Jesus welcomed by smiling faces as he teaches and heals in

your town.

Mission for the Week If someone is left out of a game, say, "I will play with you."

Read today's Gospel with your family. Talk about ways that peo-

ple sometimes turn Jesus away. Pray together, asking God to keep

you close to Jesus.
