Pope Francis reminds us that as Church we are to proclaim the good news of Je- sus, “so that faith in him might spread to every corner of the earth” We are missionaries whose lives proclaim the joy of the gospel. We are dependent upon God for everything: faith, talents, the ability to develop our talents, and life. We are mu- tually dependent upon one another. God’s comfort is known by how we accept our mission to live the gospel and share the gifts God has given us. We can invite others to God’s kingdom but we are not in control of how people re- spond. As St. Francis de Sales taught, do all through love, nothing through fear or force. Take time to deepen your union with God in prayer. Give thanks for God’s gift of life and the gifts you’ve been given. Ask for help where you are in need. Turn to the Body of Christ to fill in the gifts you lack. prayer, education, and action for religious freedom in the United States and abroad. The theme of this year will focus on the lives of women and men of faith, from all over the world, who have borne witness to authentic freedom in Christ. The observance calls at-tention to the various threats to religious lib-erty, the plight of persecuted Christians. For more information usccb.org

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
