FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Buildings Supervisor – Jim Jeanmard has served as our Buildings’ Supervisor. For quite a few years he has repaired the broken pews, as well as negotiated with various contractors for church repairs and improvement (e.g. recent painting of the church and school). He has decided that it is time for him to retire from this position. We thank him for his years of service.

Grounds Supervisor – Wayne Bollich has served as our Grounds Supervisor as far back as Msgr. Angelle’s pastorate. He supervised the maintenance of the grounds, trimming of trees, and whatever needed to be done for our property to be beautiful as it is. He too has decided that it is time for him to retire from this position. We thank him for his years of service.

New Buildings and Grounds Supervisor – Donald Broussard, one of our parish trustees, recently retired from The Lemoine Company. I am grateful that he agreed to volunteer his time to serve as our Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. He is currently negotiating with a contractor to make major improvements in the kitchen located in Founders Hall. Anyone who knows of needed repairs, such as broken kneeler in church, should call the parish office (981-3379) leaving a message for him.

CENTENNIAL NEWS Mother Teresa Visits Lafayette - One of the most memorable events of the 100 years of the Diocese of Lafayette was certainly the visit Acadiana received from a Saint. Mother Teresa, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, came to Lafayette in July 1986 to establish a chapter of her order here in Lafayette. Mother Teresa was a longtime friend of Fr. Joseph Brennan, and during her visit she prayed at St. Genevieve Church and spoke to the people of Acadiana in a packed Cajundome on July 10, 1986. The Missionaries of Charity continue to witness to the Gospel in Acadiana with four religious sisters serving in Lafayette today.

2018-19 RCIA PROGRAM The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program is for adults who were never baptized, those baptized in other faith communities, and adult Catholics who were never confirmed. Morning meetings begin the Sunday after Labor Day and continue on Sunday mornings throughout the Easter season. SUMMER CONCERT All are invited to attend a summer concert by the Lafayette String Orchestra, Sunday, July 15, 2:00 PM, at St. Mary Church. Members of this orchestra are from Lafayette as well as surrounding areas of Acadiana. Please come to this free concert and support our local talent.

NOVENA TO SAINT ANNE The Ladies Altar Society of St. John the Evangelist Church in Henry is inviting all Altar Society members throughout the Diocese of Lafayette to pray with them, privately at home, a novena to St. Anne, July 18 – 26. Mass will be celebrated at St. John Cathedral at 12:05 PM, on July 26. EVANGELIZERS FOR CHRIST The next meeting for Evangelizers for Christ will be Thurs., July 19, 6:15 PM, in the Parish Hall. The topic for discussion will be an Introduction to RCIA by Melanie Fowler with a question and answer period. Also on the agenda will be a discussion on how to explain the Sacraments to non-believers or those who may have left the church. ANNULMENT PROCESS WORKSHOP July 24, the Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Lafayette, Msgr. Robie Robichaux, will be presenting workshops on Declaration of Nullity and what is needed to begin the process. Two workshop times are offered: 10:00 AM – NOON, or 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the Diocesan offices, Immaculata Center, 1408 Carmel Drive. All are invited to attend.
