LEADERSHIP ROLES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

AWARD CRITERIA/ESSAY QUESTION

ESSAY DISCUSSION

The criteria for the award includes: Leadership Roles 30%, Extracurricular Activities 30%, Essay 40%. Students shoulddemonstrate their commitment to high ethical behavior and provide documentation in the following areas:

Describe any leadership roles in extracurricular activities including jobs, school, clubs, student government, athletics,or community volunteering.

Describe activities in or out of school and within your community such as jobs, clubs, athletics, scouts, church or communityvolunteering.

The following is an excerpt from Dr. Robert Sandel’s Keynote address, 2010 BBB Student of Integrity Awards:

The word integrity comes from the same Latin root as integer and historically has been understood to carry much thesame sense, the sense of wholeness: a person of integrity, like a whole number, is a whole person, a person somehowundivided.

To be a Student of Integrity means being committed to living a life that matters. What will matter is your character, your actsof integrity, compassion, courage and sacrifice that encouraged others to emulate your example. As you move forward inyour life to college and then into the workplace, what characteristics do you believe will be necessary for you to demonstrateintegrity? What challenges do you anticipate you will face? How do you think you will respond to future challenges in a waythat will help you stay true to your core values? How do you plan to influence others to live “a life that matters?” What doyou want to be one of your greatest accomplishments? Up to this point, how has integrity impacted your life? Please includein your response challenges you’ve faced to this point in your life. .

Note: The goal of this essay is to get a sense of who you are, rather than what you have achieved.
