Youth Ministry Update
This fall the Pastoral Council has been addressing two of the “top issues” that emerged from the Listening Session in September: including Sunday Mass and youth ministry. The Council sees as primary that our young people “own” this new ministry as it takes shape. The Council directed Father Frank to have the 7th and 8th graders fill out a questionnaire to determine their needs, and to have Young Adults talk to the young people as they fill out the forms. We have met with about half of our religious education 7th and 8th graders, and will complete the questionnaire process early this year. An open meeting for ALL 7th and 8th graders and teens will also be scheduled.
Welcome to the Newly Baptized Members of the St. John the Baptist Parish Family!

The Sacrament of Baptism
Baptizing Your Little One at St. John’s Parish We are happy to welcome the newest members of our parish, their
parents and families. Please call the parish center so that we can help
you (631-929-4339), or email us at [email protected].
Parents meet with the pastor or a deacon for a conversation about the
following:
1. We will be able to gather the information about your child, and help you select a date for Baptism. We
usually have Baptisms on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 1:00 p.m. in church.
2. The Church also asks that the parents receive some preparation for the baptism of their child. You can
attend the Baptism Preparation Session on the 4th Sunday of the month after you come to celebrate the 11:15
a.m. mass with the parish community.
3. Our parish community also looks forward to praying with you before the baptism of your child at either the
5:00 pm Saturday mass or the 11:15 a.m. Sunday mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the months. The new
parents and the child, with your family, have special seating in our church, and after the homily we welcome
your child and promise the prayers and support of our community.
4. We will be happy to also help you with these and other
questions:
Can we help register you as a new family in our parish?
Can we help you discern your choice of godmother and/or
godfather?
Do you have any questions about your marriage, so perhaps we
can arrange for you to have your marriage blessed in the Catholic Church?
Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Fr. Frank, our pastor
([email protected], or 631-929-4339, ext. 16), or a parish deacon.
Blessings on all God’s Little Ones as they prepare to become part of the Catholic Church!
Page 7
Are you new to St. John the Baptist parish? Please sign up for our email list on the parish website, and
contact us so that we can register you as part of our Parish Family!
Have you recently gotten engaged? Congratulations on this amazing moment in your lives! Please call Fr.
Frank or a deacon as soon as possible, so that we can help you set your
wedding date here in your parish of St. John the Baptist!
Our parish also extends hospitality to couples who are from other parish
communities. Should you be thinking about choosing a “venue” nearby
Wading River, we will do our best to help you!
In order to set the date, we need to have the "wedding interview"
required by the Catholic Church.
When we meet, we can also talk about marriage preparation, your
rehearsal, and all the details that go into your wedding. And please
count on our prayers during this blessed time of your Engagement --
your wedding here will be a joyful, beautiful event!

Parish Outreach Reflections as the New Year Begins
Many people in our parish share in our Outreach Ministry by giving of their
time, talent, and treasure. We look forward to working with you to respond to
those in need during this New Year. We ask for your continued support and
prayer. Together we do make a difference.
We want to take a moment to reflect on the amazing generosity of our parish
community.
We are grateful to all of you who donated to our monthly collection or provide
us with gift cards.
We are grateful to all of you who donated to or worked on the Recycling,
Back-to-School, Thanksgiving Basket, or Giving Tree Programs. We are
grateful for all of you who volunteer on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the
Outreach Office, who stand at the Church doors for our monthly collection,
who shop for food, who drive those in need of a ride, who volunteer for our
Linus Ministry, who volunteer for the Gathering Inn, and who attend and work
on the St. Patrick’s Day Gala. Thanksgiving and Christmas bring out the
giving spirit in so many of us, but we are so fortunate because we have your
support throughout the year. There is no way that we can adequately express
the gratitude we have for that support. .
