AYALA STREET WHEREAS, this pertains to the naming of the road leading to Eden Nature Park as Jesus V. Ayala Street; WHEREAS, Jesus V. Ayala was married to Mrs. Fe Misa Ayala; WHEREAS, Ayala was a prominent Dabawenyo businessman. He established in the early 1970s the banana trade with Sumito Fruits and Fuji Fruits with Hijo Plantation, Inc., as the pioneering exporter of bananas primarily for the Japan market; WHEREAS, he can also be credited for helping in the anti- dictatorship movement; WHEREAS, in 1986, Ayala was named chair of the Regional Development Task Force which in 1988 was renamed into Regional Development Council (RDC). He held this post until 2004; WHEREAS , Ayala passed away on April 19, 2011 at the age of 82; NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved as it is hereby resolved, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to enact an Ordinance naming the road leading to Eden Nature Park as Jesus V. Ayala Street; RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this Resolution be furnished to the Office of the Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the family of Jesus V. Ayala, the Traffic Management Center, PNP Highway Patrol and all other offices/departments concerned, for their information and guidance. AN ORDINANCE RENAMING MT. MAYON STREET AS JESUS V. AYALA STREET

Be it ordained by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of Davao, in session assembled that:

Section I. TITLE – This ordinance shall be known as the “AN ORDINANCE RENAMING MT. MAYON STREET AS JESUS V. AYALA STREET.”

Section II. DECLARATION OF POLICY – According to paragraph 2 of the Revised Guidelines on the Naming and Renaming of Streets, Public Schools, Plazas, Building, Bridges and Other Structures “2. Public places under the jurisdiction of the local governments with the exception of barangays may be named or renamed by the local government unit concerned (e.g. a provincial road cannot be renamed by a municipal or city government)”

Section III. AUTHORITY – The Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of Davao has the power to rename Mt. Mayon Street pursuant to the above-mentioned provisions of the Local Government Code (LGC);

SECTION IV. SEPARABILITY CLAUSE – If for any reason, any section or provision of this ordinance is declared unconstitutional or invalid, other sections or provisions hereof not affected by such declaration shall continue to be in full force and effect;

SECTION V. EFFECTIVITY CLAUSE – This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon approval.
