Presentation Notes
Developed over 30 years ago, skid steers now make up the largest construction segment by units. Today, manufacturers build and sell over 80,000 skid steer loaders per year. We estimate the replacement market for tires at 2 million units and growing!

Many people use the skid steer loader for its compact size and versatility. * As a four-wheel drive loader with double acting cylinders, its left and right wheels can act independently of each other. * The name "skid steer" comes from the vehicles wheels' ability to turn the left and right wheel pairs at different speeds, thus making it skid by dragging its wheels across the ground. * The skid steer’s small rigid frame and strong wheel bearings prevent the movement from damaging the machine, and its lift arms can attach to a wide variety of labor-saving tools. * As with other front loaders, it can push material from one place to another, carry material in the bucket, or load material into other equipment.

Choosing the right tire to provide optimum performance can prove difficult with all of the different tire options out there today. For example, look at this Skid Steer tire wear continuum. We can classify Firestone skid steer tires into three different categories: Heavy Duty, Deep Tread and Super Deep tread depths. Tires on the left of the wear continuum generally have the lowest initial cost, but over the life of the tire will have the highest cost per 32nd or cost per operational hour. Also, don't forget the costs of service and mounting each additional set, because these tires start with less tread depth to begin with and may wear out faster as a result. As we go across the tire continuum, the tire tread depths get deeper, and cost a little more but result in additional wear and lowered cost of operational hour.
DuraForce HD
• Top application: construction • Top conditions/environments: concrete, gravel/rock, soil • Position on skid steers: all • Important benefits and features:
• Rejection of debris and protection from damage and flats through its rim deflector
• Traction, durability, and puncture resistance through a super-tough tread
Presenter
Presentation Notes
For less frequent use or for standard applications, a DuraForce HD (for heavy duty) works well. Its low initial cost and durability make it a good choice. NOTE: You will often see the DuraForce HD referred to as simply DuraForce. The DuraForce HD tire offers: * Rejection of debris and protection from damage and flats through its rim deflector * Traction, durability, and puncture resistance through a super-tough tread
DuraForce DT
• Important benefits and features: • Rejection of debris through aggressive rim deflector • Stability and puncture resistance through heavy duty
sidewall and large curb rib • Enhanced wear and life through deep tread and
extra-wide buttressed lugs • Resistance to punctures and flats through full
sidewall protection
• Top application: construction • Top conditions/environments: concrete, gravel/rock, soil • Position on skid steers: all
Presenter
Presentation Notes
For tougher jobs, a DuraForce DT (for deep tread) will work well. With a deeper tread and a higher rubber-to-void ratio, it has 30% more total tread volume than the DuraForce HD. It lasts longer than the HD, plus it resists punctures, sidewall cuts, and impact breaks-thus reducing the chance of unscheduled downtime. The DuraForce DT tire offers: * Rejection of debris through aggressive rim deflector * Stability and puncture resistance through heavy duty sidewall and large curb rib * Enhanced wear and life through deep tread and extra-wide buttressed lugs * Resistance to punctures and flats through full sidewall protection
DuraForce SDT
• Top application: construction • Top conditions/environment: concrete, gravel/rock, soil • Position on skid steers: all
• Important benefits and features: • Rejection of debris through aggressive rim deflector • Stability and puncture resistance through heavy duty
sidewall and large curb rib • Enhanced wear and life through deep tread and
extra-wide buttressed lugs • Resistance to punctures and flats through full
sidewall protection • Fullest possible footprint for long, even tread wear • Ability to take a pounding with an extra-tough nylon body
construction and special puncture-resistance compounds
Presenter
Presentation Notes
If you need extreme duty, extra deep tires, a DuraForce SDT (Super Deep Tread) provides reliability and long-term durability. Its cost over the life of the tire makes it less expensive than the HD or the DT as well as when comparing its cost per hour of operation. Plus, fewer flats mean less downtime for you. The DuraForce SDT offers: * Rejection of debris through aggressive rim deflector * Stability and puncture resistance through heavy duty sidewall and large curb rib * Enhanced wear and life through deep tread and extra-wide buttressed lugs * Resistance to punctures and flats through full sidewall protection * Fullest possible footprint for long, even tread wear * Ability to take a pounding with an extra-tough nylon body construction and special puncture-resistance compounds
