Discussion with EU officersDiscussion with EU officers(meeting the 05/01/07 with D. Pasini and C. Kurrer)(meeting the 05/01/07 with D. Pasini and C. Kurrer)
•Encouragements for a neutrino DS,•not more than 5 M€ by EU,•duration: 4 years,•possibility to extent the DS using the 2010 call,•meanwhile possible to participate to IA proposals,•but very difficult to obtain funding for R&D,•IA more for improving existing facilities,•investigate for ERC grants (young physicists).

Title: European Design Study of a High Intensity Neutrino Facility
Acronym: EURO-
Aim:Study and comparison (physics performances and cost) of the different options in order the neutrino European community to be ready for the particle physics decisions of 2010-2012.
Duration: 4 years
Cost: <5 M€ (+institutes participation ~50% with a minimum of 25%)
Coordinating person: R. Edgecock
Host institutes: CCLRC

EURO-EURO- and ESGARD and ESGARD• ESGARD supports the DS on neutrinos with all the partners ready to contribute. It is in
line with the strategy document and would enhance the EU role in this field.
• P-driver is studied elsewhere. Therefore, it should only be in this DS for consistency of the whole project, with a lower priority and without asking for money.
• Detectors should not be a large part of the DS and be only included for consistency of the project. Astrophysics community is working on detector proposals.
• Caveat:
1. all ingredients must be part of the project so that its success does not depend on institutes external to the collaboration.
2. There must be a unique coordinator who can be helped by additional scientific coordinators if necessary.

Proposal preparationProposal preparation• Proposal preparation: R. Edgecock, M. Lindroos, M. Dracos (under BENE SG
supervision).
• Identify all interested institutes: under way (summary of the project already prepared: http://bene.web.cern.ch/bene/euro_nu_DS.pdf)
• Propose WP coordinators: finished
• Proposal presentation: 7 Feb. (BENE SG meeting) and 28th March(?).
• Draft to be sent to the participating institutes for approval: end of March
• Discussion with Brussels: end of March
• Signature by participating institutions: beginning of April
• Final proposal agreed: 20 Apr.
