Environmental Factors

Often environmental conditions dictate (determine) that a group migrate from a place. Examples lack of food, changing climatic conditions.

Religious Persecution

Jews during WWIIWhen governments persecute members of a religious minority those people often migrate more tolerant locations.

Ethnic PersecutionEthnic groups will often migrate to escape unfair treatment (persecution) by another group.

Economic Motives• Poverty and unemployment is often a Push

factor motivating people to migrate to locations of opportunity.

Forced Migration

Sometimes government or other circumstances will force another group of people to migrate.

Political Factors• Often political instability and revolution force

people to flee their homelands. The desire to find greater political freedoms may also motivate people to migrate.
