NOTE: Currently, 1-13 Armor is scheduled to participate in a transition team function as part of the Armys transformation to a modular force. Plans call for the 13th Armor to convert back to the 13th Cavalry, with two squadrons (1st and 2d) slated to serve as reconnaissance squadrons in the 1st Armored Division (On Point (Fall 2006), p. 32)

One of these, the 13th, was assigned to the forces earmarked for the invasion of North Africa Diagram M3 (Insert) Caption: After Effect was a M3 of the 1st Armored Division, 13th Armored Regiment at Bizete, Tunisia during May of 1943. Photo w/caption (p. 48) : The first American tankers to see combat in North Africa under their own commander were elements of the 1st Armored Division, which too part in the invasion of Oran.
