Message from the President On behalf of the Taralga AP&H Committee I would like to welcome you to the 133rd Annual Taralga Show on the 9th & 10th March 2019. The 2018 show was a huge success and a great credit to our sponsors, committee, members and supporters. This year’s show will have something for everyone with all our regular sheep, cattle and horse events. The official opening of the show will occur around 2pm on Saturday, followed by a jam-packed afternoon with sheep count, dog high jump and quick shear all taking place. As a change this year the quick shear will run late Saturday afternoon with music entertainment that will continue after the event. We welcome entries into the Pavilion so that it will once again showcase the best produce, flowers, photography, art, craft, and cooking from the local area and much much more. The winners of the Local Flock Ewe competition will be announced on Sunday morning. The top two will then take part in the 4th Annual Southern Tablelands Flock Ewe Competition which we will be hosting here in in Taralga on the 15th March. We welcome everyone to the grand parade on Sunday afternoon as a celebration of this year’s show. Both days will also include the popular team sorting events. I look forward to seeing you at the show. Yours Sincerely Stuart Keith - President

Rich Fruit Cake Competition The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants Here’s what you need:

• 250g (8 oz) sultanas • 250g (8 oz) chopped raisins • 250g (8 oz) currants • 125g (4 oz) chopped mixed peel • 90g (3 oz) chopped red glace cherries • 90g (3 oz) chopped blanched almonds • 1/3 cup sherry or brandy • 250g (8 oz) plain flour • 60g (2 oz) self-raising flour • ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg • ½ teaspoon ground ginger • ½ teaspoon ground cloves • 250g (8 oz) butter • 250g (8 oz) soft brown sugar • ½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind • ½ teaspoon almond essence • ½ teaspoon vanilla essence • 4 large eggs

Here’s what you do: • Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover

and leave for at least an hour, but preferably overnight. • Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with

the essences. • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after, each addition, then alternately

add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon.

• Place the mixture into a prepared tin no larger than 20cm (8”) and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 ½ to 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in tin.

NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4 to 6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3 or 4 pieces.
