substations between generating plant andconsumer, and may be changed in voltage inseveral steps.

1. INDOORSUBSTATION:- The

substation which is

situated inside a

building called indoorsubstation. These

substations are of low

power.

OUTDOORSUBSTATION:-The

substations which are

installed in an open

place under the sky.

POLE MOUNTED SUBSTATION:- Thesesubstations have a single transformer

which is mounted on poles.

Primary Substationsreceive power from EHV lines

at 400KV, 220KV, 132KV and transform the voltage

to 66KV, 33KV, 22KV or 11KV

Secondary Substationsreceive power at 66/33KV

which is stepped down usually to 11KV.

Distribution Substations receive power at 11KV, 6.6

KV and step down to a volt suitable for LV

distribution purposes, normally at 415 volts

b). LIGHTNING ARRESTER

:-A lightning arrester is a

device used on electrical

power systems and

telecommunications

systems to protect the

insulation and conductors

of the system from thedamaging effects of

lightning. The typical

lightning arrester has a

high-voltage terminal anda ground terminal.

CT & PT :- A current

transformer (CT) is

used for measurement

of alternating electric

currents. Current

transformers, togetherwith voltage (or

potential) transformers

(VT or PT), are known

as instrumenttransformers.

mechanical switch

which break the

electrical circuit underno load conditions.

CIRCUIT BREAKER:-

.It is automatically operated switch which breakes the

electrical circuit.

.It can operate on both coditions "No Load" & "Full

Load".

TRANSFORMER:-It isa static electrical

device which transfer

from one circuit toanother by changing

voltage level without

changing frequency.

CONTROL PANEL:- Itis the essential part of

like tripping,

measurements etc.
