UK volleyball, on the heels of its thirdSweet 16 appearance in four years, begins itsspring schedule Saturday when the Cats faceIllinois at Memorial Coliseum.

UK has won 20 games in eight consecu-tive seasons, including a 22-11 record in 2012.The 2012 Cats won two NCAA Tournamentgames last season. Both wins came at home, the first being against East Tennessee Stateand the second against Ohio State. UK thenfell to No. 1 Penn State in a three-set match aweek later.

“We need to be better at the end of Aprilthan we were in January,” UK head coachCraig Skinner said about his goals for thespring season. “Every day, we are working onspecific things and people will be competingfor spots. Hopefully every time you step onthe court, you want to give yourself a chanceto win. But it’s not the most important thingwe’re trying to accomplish. It’s more aboutthe overall improvement of the system.”

Skinner said graduating senior Ashley Fra-zier will play Saturday as junior outside hitterLauren O’Connor, one of two returning out-side hitters, works back from offseason footsurgery.

One of the biggest holes to fill in the UKlineup is libero. Graduating senior All-Ameri-can Stephanie Klefot played 98 matches infour years at the position and was the SECLibero of the Year each of the past three sea-sons. Skinner said the position battle is ongo-ing, but junior Jackie Napper, who started 32matches in 2012 at defensive specialist, hasthe edge at this point.

Among the top returning players are O’Connor, Napper, senior outside hitter andAll-American Whitney Billings, senior middleblocker Alexandra Morgan, sophomore mid-dle blocker Sara Schwarzwalder, senior defen-sive specialist Jessi Greenberg and sophomoreKayla Tronick. All played a part in Skinner’srotation in 2012. Sophomore setter MorganBergren also started four matches.

The Cats’ game against the Fighting Illiniis the only home game on the spring schedule. In April, UK travels to tournaments inLouisville and Indianapolis as well as playinga doubleheader in West Lafayette, Ind.,against Ball State and tournament host Pur-due.

Saturday’s game against Illinois starts at 4p.m., with free admission to Memorial Colise-um for all fans.

The News Corp.-owned cable network— home to such acclaimed shows as “Jus-tified” and “Sons of Anarchy” — is launch-ing a sister channel this fall, dubbed FXX.

To get the channel off to a strong start,FX will move its comedies “It’s AlwaysSunny in Philadelphia” and “The League” toFXX, as well as its late-night show “TotallyBiased With W. Kamu Bell,” which will ex-pand from a weekly to a nightly show.

FXX is scheduled to launch Sept. 2. FXsaid it should be available in at least 70 mil-lion homes.

By moving two of its established come-dies to the new channel, FX is betting that itwill have some leverage in negotiations forcarriage with cable and satellite distributorsand attract attention from Madison Avenue.

FX was mum on how it will be able tolaunch in so many homes, but News Corp.executives have been telling pay-TV distrib-utors that it is considering converting the

Fox Soccer Channel into FXX.Besides the FX shows that will relocate

to FXX, there are plans for two other origi-nal comedies in the first year and a total ofsix for the second year. The channel will aimfor adults 18-34. FX executives said it willnot strictly be a comedy network.

“We are embarking on an incredibly am-bitious ramp-up of program developmentand production required to sustain these net-works,” said FX President John Landgraf, who unveiled FXX to advertisers in NewYork City on Thursday morning.

No executive to oversee FXX wasnamed. Besides Landgraf, the executives ex-pected to play key roles in building FXX areexecutive vice presidents Nick Grad, EricSchrier and Chuck Saftler.

FXX is the second major cable initiativeNews Corp. has announced in the pastmonth. It also is launching sports networkFox Sports 1 in August.

their first Sweet 16 appearance.Delaware’s production comes mostly

from a trio of seniors: forward Elena DelleDonne, guard Lauren Carra and forwardDanielle Parker.

Delle Donne, thrice chosen as the CAAPlayer of the Year and twice an All-Ameri-can, leads the Blue Hens and is second na-tionally in scoring with 25.8 points per game. She adds 8.4 rebounds per game as well.

Delle Donne played a combined 78 min-utes in the first two rounds of the tourna-ment, scoring 33 points in each game.

However, Mitchell believes his Cats mustfocus on more than just stopping Delle Donne.

“To me, I think you’re making a big mis-

take if you put it solely on one player,”Mitchell said. “(Delle Donne) is very impor-tant, obviously, to what they want to do be-cause she’s so talented, but we’ll be reallytrying to make this more about our team andthe Kentucky team and how we do what wedo well.”
