Proverbs 1:1-4
1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David,
king of Israel: 2 To know wisdom and
instruction, to understand words of insight, 3
to receive instruction in wise dealing, in
righteousness, justice, and equity; 4 to give
prudence to the simple, knowledge and
discretion to the youth—
![Page 9: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Proverbs 1:7 (ESV)
The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of knowledge; fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
![Page 10: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Proverbs 2:1–6 (ESV)
• — 1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up
my commandments with you, 2 making your ear
attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to
understanding; 3 yes, if you call out for insight and
raise your voice for understanding, 4 if you seek it like
silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, 5 then
you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the
knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from
his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
![Page 11: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Proverbs 2:12 (ESV)
delivering you from the way of
evil, from men of perverted
speech,
![Page 12: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Proverbs 3:1–12 (ESV)1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep
my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and
peace they will add to you. 3 Let not steadfast love and
faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write
them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and
good success in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD
with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will
make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear
the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your
flesh and refreshment to your bones. 9 Honor the LORD with
your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then
your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be
bursting with wine. 11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s
discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the LORD reproves
him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Lukewarm--Cooked• Proverbs 6:28–29 (ESV) — 28 Or can one
walk on hot coals and his feet not be
scorched? 29 So is he who goes in to his
neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will
go unpunished.
![Page 14: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Proverbs 20:2–4 (ESV)
2 The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion;
whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life. 3 It is
an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but
every fool will be quarreling. 4 The sluggard does not
plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have
nothing.

integrity— blessed are his
children after him!

Proverbs 20:10 (ESV) Unequal
weights and unequal measures are
both alike an abomination to the LORD.

Proverbs 20:13 (ESV) Love not sleep,
lest you come to poverty; open your
eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.

Proverbs 20:15 (ESV)
There is gold and abundance of costly
stones, but the lips of knowledge are
a precious jewel.

Lukewarm-Cooked
Proverbs 20:17 (ESV) Bread gained by
deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward
his mouth will be full of gravel.
![Page 20: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Lukewarm-- CookedProverbs 20:19–22 (ESV) — 19 Whoever goes
about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not
associate with a simple babbler. 20 If one curses his
father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in utter
darkness. 21 An inheritance gained hastily in the
beginning will not be blessed in the end. 22 Do not
say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the LORD, and he will
deliver you.
![Page 21: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Proverbs 20:24 (ESV)
A man’s steps are from the LORD; how
then can man understand his way?
![Page 22: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Proverbs 20:27 (ESV)
The spirit of man is the lamp
of the LORD, searching all his
innermost parts.
![Page 23: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Proverbs 20:29 (ESV)
The glory of young men is their
strength, but the splendor of old
men is their gray hair.
![Page 24: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Proverbs 21:1–7 (ESV)
— 1 The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of
the LORD; he turns it wherever he will. 2 Every way of a
man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the
heart. 3 To do righteousness and justice is more
acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. 4 Haughty eyes
and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin. 5 The
plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but
everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. 6 The
getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor
and a snare of death. 7 The violence of the wicked will
sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is just.
![Page 25: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Lukewarm-Cooked
Proverbs 21:13–15 (ESV) — 13 Whoever
closes his ear to the cry of the poor will
himself call out and not be answered. 14 A gift
in secret averts anger, and a concealed bribe,
strong wrath. 15 When justice is done, it is a
joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
![Page 26: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Lukewarm--Cooked
Proverbs 21:17 (ESV) Whoever
loves pleasure will be a poor man; he
who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
![Page 27: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Proverbs 21:19–21 (ESV)
19 It is better to live in a desert land than with a
quarrelsome and fretful woman. 20 Precious
treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a
foolish man devours it. 21 Whoever pursues
righteousness and kindness will find life,
righteousness, and honor.
![Page 28: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Proverbs 21:23 (ESV)
Whoever keeps his mouth and his
tongue keeps himself out of
trouble.
![Page 29: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Proverbs 21:27–28 (ESV)
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an
abomination; how much more when he brings
it with evil intent. 28 A false witness will
perish, but the word of a man who hears will
endure.
![Page 30: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
Proverbs 21:30–31 (ESV)
30 No wisdom, no understanding, no
counsel can avail against the LORD. 31 The
horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but the victory belongs to the LORD.
![Page 31: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
III. Solomon builds a temple for God and grows in popularity.
I Kings 6-10• Solomon builds a beautiful temple and
dedicates it to God.
• God’s both blesses and warns Solomon.
• The Queen of Sheba visits Solomon and admires
his wisdom and his kingdom. 1 Kings 10
![Page 32: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
IV. Solomon, who started strong, ends poorly. I Kings
11• As Solomon grew old, his 700 wives led his
heart away to worship idols.
• The LORD became angry with Solomon because
Solomon’s heart was divided. 1 Kings 11:9-13
![Page 33: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Because Solomon’s heart was divided, his kingdom divided.
James 1:6–8 (ESV) — 6 But let him ask in faith,
with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a
wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the
wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he
will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a
double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

No one wakes up and says, “I’d like to wreck my life and ruin all my relationships.” These things happen slowly. If the
wisest man failed, then what about us?
![Page 36: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
To Christians:• Live to point others to Christ. That is our
mission.
• How we live matters and will influence others.
• Stay out of lukewarm waters. How?
– pray to finish strong
– ask God for wisdom
– invite accountability
![Page 37: #13 The King who had it all Solomon 1 Kings 1-11.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56649e965503460f94b99f33/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
To non-Christians:• Before you end your life, trust Christ as your
Savior. Stay out of hot water.
• Jesus is the ultimate finisher. He declared
from the cross, “It is finished!”
• Trust in Christ today.
