MISTAKE #13

THINKING THIS IS FIFA 12

This year’s game is first-class compared to other years. Gamers that are used

to playing the previous FIFAs, recognize this year’s game is totally different

and much more difficult. Almost all of the problems with FIFA 12 have been

ironed out and this year’s game requires much more skills on the sticks.

PLAYING THE BEAUTIFUL

GAME

Don’t try to play the beautiful game. The best FIFA players in the world use

negative football similar to the Chelsea team that won the champions

league last year. FIFA 13 is very realistic but at the end of the day it is still a

videogame. Meaning, there are tactics that you could be using to crush your

opponent!

MISTAKE #11

NOT KNOWING THE BASICS

Before you can become a legend at FIFA, you must cover all the basics. The

best players are called masters because they have mastered every element of

the game. Start with the offensive fundamentals and thoroughly learn the

passing, shooting, dribbling controls and the defensive controls.

MISTAKE #10

TURNING THE BALL OVER

Losing the Ball with First Touch

Players are really struggling to keep possession in FIFA 13. This is a HUGE tip,

if you are getting killed with the new first-touch system, then use this strategy

to build your offense through a simple one-touch passing game. 9 times out

of 10 you can control the first-touch by holding LB/L1 (Xbox 360/PS3)

when you’re passing the ball up the pitch. This will slow your players down a

little bit but it is much better than a frustrating first touch.


MISTAKE #9

BLOCKED SHOTS This year players need a little bit more time to shoot and as a result many

gamers are finding their shots being blocked by defenders.

Top players are definitely using

the regular shot more in FIFA 13.

Lightly pressing the shot button is

effective from close range but the

standard shot is best used when

firing from long range.

When approaching from an angle (ie.

Corner of the box) use the finesse

shot to wrap the ball around the goalie.

A major tip for shooting is to pay

attention to the set-up touch before

shooting. To fire a powerful shot, you

need to set yourself up with a big touch

in front of your player so he can get power into his shot.

MISTAKE #8

JOCKEYING TOO LITTLE

Jockeying Along the Sideline

Jockeying is the single move that will take your game to the next level; on

defense your finger should rarely leave the jockey trigger. The best FIFA

players in the world contain their opponent by continuing to run back using

the jockey. This forces your opponent into making the move rather than you

just sticking a leg in. Try not to immediately dive in and steal the ball from

your opponent, just jockey with him until he gets too close to the box. More

often than not, you'll just intercept a pass when he gets impatient.


MISTAKE #7

SLIDING TOO MUCH

Sliding Tackling = Sliding in Divisions

Gamers have a tendency to use the slide tackle button out of frustration. If

your opponent is using consecutive skilled maneuvers, many players out of

annoyance will use the slide tackle and give away penalties and free kicks.

Most advanced players will capitalize on free kicks and penalty kicks, leaving

you paying for your mistake. STOP SLIDE TACKLING !


MISTAKE #6

GULLIBLE GOALIES

Shut-Out Your Opponent

An effective strategy to use during one-on-one situations is bringing the

goalkeeper out then double tapping the Y or Triangle button to have the

goal keeper run backwards. By bringing out your goalie your opponent may

panic and slow down. When your keeper is running back, you should have

bought yourself enough time for your defender to catch them. Bringing the

keeper out then sending him back forces a decision and usually it’s a wrong

decision because they’re not expecting the keeper to go back again.


MISTAKE #5

TOO MANY SKILL MOVES

With 5 Star skill moves

you find a lot of people

that make videos on

YouTube aren’t actually

playing against people

online. It is much

harder to pull off 5 Star

skill moves when you

are playing a Ranked match online where it is rare to see a 4 Star move. If

you want to do 5 Star skill moves, you are better off playing for fun because

you won’t get the time to do it in a serious match. During, the FIFA

Interactive World Cup, the biggest FIFA tournament, the winner was not a

skillful person. He did not need ANY skill moves to win the

championship. I don’t know why new people think that’s a very big part of

the game; it’s so easy to win games without skill moves.

The skill moves that the pros use are the Rabona Fake, Fake Shot, &

Scoop Turn.


MISTAKE #4

MESSING UP SET PIECES

New Tactical Free Kicks

Set pieces remain a dangerous scoring opportunity in FIFA 13. For corner

kicks, you need to learn the inswinging and outswinging techniques that

will maximize your chance of reaching targets in the penalty box. Free kicks

may be harder this year but you can score goals by knowing the proper set-

ups for the dipping free kick, power free kick, and curved free kick.


MISTAKE #3

FINISHING A GAME

If your team has the lead late in the game, try holding onto the ball more. It

may annoy your opponent but it’s the most logical strategy when closing out a

game. You don’t have to pass the ball around the backfield but if you can’t see

a pass, just play it back the way it came from. Some useful tips would be to lay

off the turbo, shield the ball and “when it doubt, kick it out”.


MISTAKE #2

FIFA MENTALITY

If you want to be good at FIFA you’ve got to put the time and the effort in. You

get a lot of people that play and they lose and then they just go off their head

and give up. If you want to get good at FIFA then you’ve got to be persistent. A

lot of beginners go on to another game straight after losing. That’s not the

way to get better at FIFA. You’ll maybe lose a good few games but with the

right mentality, your game will grow and you’ll start beating your friends and

the best guys online. If you want to get good at FIFA, put the effort in.
