THE WORTHY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM was founded in 1978 by Delta

Kappa Gamma in memory of Marjorie Keeton, a teacher, school board member

and promoter of worthy ideals in the community. The concept that Marjorie

Keeton promoted of honoring students for their resourcefulness, dependability,

respect and personal effort is unique to Bozeman. Our community of parents,

families, individuals, business owners, and professional organizations show their

support by funding these scholarships year after year.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE A very memorable moment for me is when I finally got permission to direct my own small play, in 3 different programs. I had permission to lead and direct one and it was an amazing feeling watching it all come together!

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE The future for me right now is just getting through college the best I can, hoping to get into computer programming and follow my passion for electronics and ability to contribute to society while also creating new and innovative things for the future of society, as well hoping to stay in Bozeman for quite a while.

JOHN GALLAGHER He is one of the newest teachers I have met, but the way he teaches makes learning involved and engaging and encourages me in ways that other teachers can’t to pursue the math

field and computer sciences. He gives me hopes about teachers in general as a different style of teaching.

ANDREA BAILEY PARENTS Heather and Corey Ceccacci

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE One of my favorite memories was my freshman year when I did my final in English which was on suicide prevention and by the end of the presentation everyone was crying and telling me thank you and that is when I realized I wanted to be a therapist.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE My future plans include going to Montana State University here in Bozeman and major in Psychology. Hopefully someday I can open my own practice to help kids my age that are going through similar things I’ve gone through.

NIKKI WIERS She was the first person I met with the same birth defect as me and through out the years whenever I feel like I can’t get through something or I feel like I’m not good enough

because of my birth defect I think of her and it helps me realize that I can do anything with my life and that no matter what I am good enough.

BETHANY RINGER Mrs. Ringer has helped me through a lot. She has helped me narrow down my college and

has given me a drive to go in to education. She has looked out for me and always been there for me when I need someone to talk to.

HALLEY BENNETT PARENTS Sam and April Bennett

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE In my sophomore year, the theater department chose “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream-coat” as our fall show, and I was the musical director of it. In total, we did 4 different versions of that show over 9 months. I now have a love/ hate relationship with that show, but it is definitely memorable.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I am planning on going to MSU and getting my degree in music education. After that, who knows?

JACOB MALCZYK I choose Mr. Malczyk as my distinguished educator, because he showed me that you can help every student and have an impact on every student that comes into your class. In my freshman year, Mr. Malczyk spent a few days telling each student something that he liked about them, and something that made them, them. He did this with every choir, hundreds of students. He knows every student that walks

into his class by name, and many other students around the school that have never been in his class. Mr. Malczyk empowers all students to be the best they can be.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE That this is the last year of high school and I’m getting better grades than the last three years I’ve been here.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I’m going to college at MSU Billings for my Business Management degree.

KELLY McCLOY Kelly took me in after my family put me on the

streets and I got help with assignments that I needed help with.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Senior Night for football was probably one of the best nights of my life. It is hard to put into words going out to play one of your last home games with your best friends from pre school.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan to attend Boise State next year.

MARY ANNE MCMAHON I chose Mrs. McMahon because I have always

been able to have very real conversations with her about my life and future plans. And she always is there to help no matter what.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Some of my most memorable high school experiences are playing high school club lacrosse for all four years, participating in the Montana TSA Competition, skiing and golfing with friends, and making new friends.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I hope to study mechanical engineering at the University of Utah and possibly attend grad school to get my masters in that field.

JACK STODDART He helped me throughout the AP Psychology class and enabled me to earn a 4 on the AP exam. Asides from being a good educator, he also helped me through a tough time in my life and was there for me if I needed it,

which he didn’t need to do. This shows his genuine personality and good character, which is why I have chosen him to be my distinguished educator.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Joining the Hawkers was probably the best decision of my life. It completely changed my perspective on life and it allowed me to meet some pretty incredible people. It is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I will be going to the University of Montana to study Business Finance.

ADAM THANE This person has been my debate coach for all four years I did debate in high school. When I first met him just before deciding to join the team, I did not think much of our interaction or the activity, merely just an activity I can do in the winter. However, as time progressed, he became my mentor not only for the activity that I fell in love with but also for life in general. I began to open my horizons about different options I could take in life. Without Mr. Thane in my life, I would not have pursued my higher academic goals and he is the person I credit for pushing me to higher and better standards.

Although he was my debate coach and made my time on the speech and debate team amazing, the profound effect he had on my life means much more to me than any state championship could.

BEN HOLMGREN PARENTS Steven Holmgren and Mary Cloninger

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE I loved playing soccer at Bozeman high, I will always remember all four years of playing and I definitely made most of my closest friends while playing soccer. I will also always remember all of my great classes, listening to Mr. Budt and Mr. Thane crack jokes about European history or Mr. Strahn and Mr. Thompson’s 1960’s museum or all of the semi teacher approved experiments my friends and I conducted in AP chem.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan on attending college, and although I have not settled on a school yet I am most likely going to attend Middlebury college in Middlebury, VT.

JIM L. THOMPSON He was always so encouraging and pushed me beyond what was required of an AP US student. Mr. T made a huge impact on my education because he was clearly so passionate about his work every single day, and that passion was incredibly contagious. He pushed our class to do very unique and exciting

projects, and I learned so much about American history because of it and thoroughly enjoyed every day of that class. Mr. T taught me that learning and fun can go hand in hand.

CALEB JAMESPARENTS Shad and Jessica James

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE One of my most memorable experiences would be winning the state wrestling tournament in 2016, it almost felt like I was in a dream when it happened, I was in disbelief and unbelievably happy.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE This next year, I plan on taking a gap year to give myself some time to figure out what I want to do in the future but I am considering becoming a trainer, go into technological forensics, or join the military if I cannot decide between those two.

NATE LASLOVICH I chose this individual because of the huge impact he has made in many areas of my life. He has pushed me to be the best person I can be whether it be at home, at school, or at work. He has helped shape my work ethics and how

I view hard obstacles in my life. He has helped shape my character and how I treat the people around me and I would definitely not be the person I am today without him.

ADAM HUBLEY PARENTS Kevin and Robin Hubley

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE All the memories of Bozeman Bucks baseball, good and bad. Watching the state championship football games with the hawks winning freshman and junior year.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Play college baseball at Regis University in Denver, CO.

JIM L. THOMPSON This was my favorite class all through high school. He made me a better writer and was kind and considerate in making me a better

person, not just student. This was a great class that he and Mr. Strahn made fun to learn everyday. It pushed me to my limits with the workload it had but made me a better student because of it.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE A lot of my most memorable and favorite high school experiences have come from playing sports. Winning a state championship is also one of my favorite memories as well as attending nationals for DECA club with my friends.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan on attending Montana State University

LEVI WESCHE He coached me all 4 years of football and has

had a big impact in my life. He’s helped me to become a better player and a better young man.

CALE JOSEPHS PARENTS Jay Josephs

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE One of my most memorable experiences while attending BHS was freshman Homecoming. Being a freshman is a daunting endeavour but also a thrilling one; however, with homecoming I truly felt the Hawk spirit and the pride of my school. I remember going to the parade on that bright warm fall day and feeling like I was a part of a community who was passionate and compassionate.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan on attending College within the year and am planning to study biomedical engineering or Astrophysics. However, I plan on traveling the world this summer and hope to progress on my Chinese proficiency.

JENNIE TRANEL I chose Mrs. Tranel because she is very patient

and has been extremely supportive throughout high school.

KELLY BERDAHL Mr. Berdahl has shown every year that he cares immensely about every student that enters the high school band and marching band. He has

been a listening ear to all of my ups and downs. Through Mr. Berdahl I have been encouraged to continue making music and to be the best that I can be.

MADDY KRUSE PARENTS Carter and Lora Kruse

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Many of my favorite memories have been with the Speech and Debate team and the friends I have made through the team. Winning second place at the 2017 state tournament and the team winning overall was a wonderful experience and I will always remember dancing before speech rounds with teammates.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I will be attending South Dakota State University in the fall hoping to major in Pharmacy. I am hoping to participate in undergraduate research. Once graduated, I would like to work in an infusion center at a hospital helping to make chemotherapy and cancer treatments more effective while being less damaging to the human body.

KAREN DOWNES I met Ms. Downes on my first day of Speech and Debate Practice. I walked into the room as a very nervous and awkward freshman with no real sense of who I wanted to be or what my high school experience would be like. Despite my apparent lack of decorum or any true sense of self, Ms. Downes

became more than my coach throughout high school. She never gave up on me, even when I had given up on myself and she taught me that even the most awkward of fledglings grow into their wings.

KATIE DUNCAN I was an average student throughout elementary school, and I had accepted my plateau. However, Mrs. Duncan changed the way I looked at school and learning, and helped me discover my zeal for learning (which I have carried throughout high school). She

dedicated so much time to helping me and other students, learn our potential to do well in school. She was one of first person in my educational career who truly believed in me and my future.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE I will always remember the time my sister and I brought our roller skates to the high school while working on a group project and exploring the halls on wheels, the good times and bad times I got to be with my friends for, and all of the amazing people I have gotten to meet and get to know.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I’m going to Western Washington University next year

DAWN DRAHOS Mrs. Drahos has been an incredible, inspiring instructor who has always given me the benefit of the doubt and been willing to enthuse with me over all of the fascinating parts of our

world. Both Mrs. Drahos and Mrs. Washtak have inspired me not only to look into medicine, the subject they have taught me, but also education because of how much I admire them.

MARLEY MAY PARENTS Bret and Melissa May

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Among the many fond memories that I have, a highlight would be this year as our team traveled to the regional meet our bus experienced technical difficulties. As we pulled over in the little town of Wendel, Idaho, we all piled out and someone found the boombox and we danced like crazy for the two hours until we couldn’t continue on. This really showed me how a group of such different and unique people are able to find common ground and become friends.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I am planning on attending the College of Southern Idaho to run cross country and track. I am planning on studying business, and after I finish my two year degree I plan on transferring to larger school to specialize in sports marketing.

VALERIE RICHARDS I chose Ms. Richards because although she may not have taught an official class, she

has always been helping me with things that I need throughout school. She is someone to confide in, help with problems that you may be having and mostly be there to be a friend.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE My favorite moment in high school is playing football and basketball with some of my best friends in my class, below, and above me. I’ve built friendships with so many people from different grades and different schools in Montana all because of sports.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I’m going to Montana State University to play football!

LEVI WESCHE I chose Coach Wesche because he is a big reason why I was so successful this football season. Because of him I have my future planned out and on the right track in life to go play football at Montana State University.

I have learned to be confident and positive through thick and thin and he has also taught me life tips through example that I will carry over in the future and my adulthood.

MEGAN PETITT PARENTS Kerry and Robert Petitt

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE My most memorable high school experience would have to be project x-squared club. Getting involved in such a progressive movement within the Bozeman community has given me such a wider view of the world.

I’ve ski-raced throughout my four years at BHS. I am so thankful that BHS has let me continue to do what I love and support me academically throughout my skiing career.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan to go to either Montana State University or University of Utah in order to study Mechanical Engineering.

STACIE SMITH Ms. Smith has made a profound impact on me the last two years I have been at the high school. Starting in her Jewelry One class, she opened my eyes to being open with my creativity and my desire to design. Getting to know her better than any other teacher in the school, she has been a constant source of support in my life. I know I can go to her with issues that extend past the classroom and

trust the advice she gives me. Along with learning all about metal fabrication and design, she has taught me to be comfortable with who I am as a creator. I couldn’t thank her enough for all she has done for me! 17

PIPER MEUWISSEN PARENTS Nancy Tanner and Thomas Meuwissen

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Some of my most memorable experiences at BHS. Wow that’s a hard question. There’s so many. I think some of the most memorable have been doing crazy art projects for classes and projects. This past fall after Regionals for XC our bus broke down on the side of the road and we had a huge dance party next to a cow pasture. It was super fun but smelled disgusting. I’ll also never forget how many amazing teachers I have had the privilege of learning from throughout my high school career.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I’m planning on heading down to Adams State University in Alamosa, CO this coming fall. I am going to be running for their Track and XC team and am going to study Environmental Sustainability and a BFA in Ceramics. During the summers I would like to travel abroad- mainly to Scandinavia and South America.

BRITTA HANKS Britta has encouraged me to not only be inspired in the classroom but in life. She has such an incredible perspective and outlook

on life and shares that enthusiasm with me every time I see her. She has always been there to support me and push me to do better. I greatly respect her and treasure our friendship.

TRILBY PATTEN PARENTS Sean and Glenna Patten

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE My favorite BHS memories would include my orchestra trip to California sophomore year, my junior prom and guitar class! Going to prom with such great friends was terrific and will always be a favorite memory. Junior year I also was enrolled in the BHS guitar class. I learned so much and towards the end of the year could play a few tunes on the guitar! The teacher, environment and music has truly been an amazing experience full of great memories.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan to pursue a degree of either biochemistry or chemical engineering. I will attend MSU and participate in collegiate rodeo. I plan to study abroad for one year as well as doing a national exchange to another state in America.

MARY ANNE MCMAHON I chose Mrs. McMahon as my distinguished educator as she has been completely vital to my math success. Days where I constantly struggled and felt like the math problems were non-solvable, Mrs. McMahon would lift my spirits by guiding me through the equations,

calculating an answer. The math lab has become such a comfortable learning area because of Mrs. McMahon and her incredible ability to constantly help students. She is honest, caring and seriously a great influence on her students!

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE My junior year I had a traumatic brain injury. It was my third concussion within six months. My Nana has always said that I am an excellent seamstress so I thought that I could apply my sewing skills to the human body. I set up a shadow day with a local surgeon and only made it about ten minutes into the 12 hour shift before I was the one being stitched up. I had fainted and hit my head. The next six months resulted in a lot of indignation and frustration. It was incredible how helpful and understanding my teachers were. I think one of the main reasons I got through the year and passed my classes with flying colors was because of them. I discovered what teachers I could talk to before school and what teachers I could see at lunch.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Next year I will be attending Montana State University and studying neuroscience. I would eventually like to study how cognition and behavior affect the brain.

DEREK STRAHN Mr. Strahn is one of those teachers that when he offers to provide additional assistance in making sure you’re prepared, he truly means it. He took the extra steps to make me feel like I was worth his time and showed me I had true potential.

HEAVEN REEL PARENTS Dustin Reel and April Prentice

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Out of all the schools I have been to, Bozeman High School has definitely been the best school that I have attended. The teachers are so kind and helpful. Everyone is so supportive to my daughter and I. I really appreciate everything done for us. I don’t have too many great memories or fun things that happened because you gain and you loose friends and everyone changes. My most positive memory was my counselor, Mrs. Ubaldo. She helped me out so much. She was amazing and she was always there for me, my sister and other children who needed her.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE After I finish high school, I want a job that I know I’ll be good at which would be Cosmetology. It would be easy and fun. I like being able to make people feel good about themselves. My daughter is my everything and I don’t want to miss a single thing as she grows. I always want to be there for her. I was thinking maybe I can work in some kind of job with children.

AMANDA AAKER Ms. Aaker has always been supportive of me inside and outside of school. She is easy to talk to, very supportive, and gives good advice. I am grateful for her support.

ANNE SULLIVAN Mrs. Sullivan has always been there for me whenever I needed her. She’s made me live until I cared, and helped me feel better about the long road and obstacles ahead. Without Mrs. Sullivan, I never would have met Mrs.

Obstar or Mrs. Miles, all who have been the best of influences in my life. I could never thank them enough for everything they have done for me. I will always remember them.

RACHEL SCHMIDT PARENTS Eric and Jennifer Schmidt

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE I was a very active member of Bozeman High School’s Speech and Debate team. Being on the team was an amazing experience and not only did I gain important life skills, but I also made friendships that I know will last beyond high school.

My friends and I have had these past four years have encouraged me to become a more courageous and confident individual, these adventures have become foundational to my experience at Bozeman High School.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I am excited to be attending Montana State University’s Honors College and studying Political Science. I also hope to travel and study abroad.

ADAM THANE Mr. Thane has been a part of my experience at BHS since my first day at this school. I first knew him as my Freshman GATE English Teacher, then as my debate coach, then as my AP European History teacher. Mr. Thane has challenged me to always put my best foot forward. He has encouraged me to set high goals and standards

and to strive towards becoming the best version of myself. He taught me that while hard work does lead to individual success, it is equally important to help others in their efforts to succeed. 21

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE I did walk into the boys bathroom and ended up meeting a new friend because of it. Otherwise the best things were meeting new people and starting new conversations with them. Everyone is amazing here and I’m so happy to have met all of them!

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I want to take a gap year and get trained as a phlebotomy med technician and work at the hospital as well as Kaleidoscope Youth Theater. Then I’ll start at MSU and hopefully transfer to Seattle Cornish College of the Arts.

CONNOR HAUSAUER He was an amazing and fun teacher in general, but he is also a great human all together. He never lets any of his students fall through the cracks both educationally and socially. The

amount of times he let me sit in his room after class and just cry or rant is insane! And he always let me eat lunch in his room as well and just giggle about all the funny things that happened that day.

NATE LASLOVICH Mr. Laz has been there for me all of the time. Whether that be in the good and or bad times. He has always looked out for me and my interests. He is one of the reason I have accomplished so much throughout high school wrestling. He is always motivating me and reassuring that I can accomplish anything, that all of the hard work will take me to great places. He is also one of the most energetic people I know. Every time I see him he always

has a huge smile on his face, he says hello to everybody and that puts a smile on the other persons face and I hope to affect as many people in a positive way as he does.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I want to go into the medical field. After graduation, I am taking a gap year to become an EMT and CNA. Then I plan on attending the MSU Nursing program. After graduation from there, I want to travel the world to help other people who are less fortunate.

RYAN SHUPP Mr. Shupp has always been there for me both as a teacher and as a friend. In class he would always be open to my ideas and actually listen to a student even when they took the discussion a way he hadn’t originally planned. Mr. Shupp proved that he not only was a great educator but an amazing person. When I was having a

bad day or my home life was getting difficult, he was always there to listen to me, give me a hug and help me get back on my feet. He would say to me “hang in there, Jaelyn.” I never felt like I went unnoticed.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE The most memorable experiences I have had at BHS always involve my friends and fellow peers, the dances whether that was homecoming, twirp, or prom they were always a lot of fun!

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Majoring in Wildlife Biology at University of Montana in fall 2017, eventually I plan on becoming a Wildlife Biologist and work for a National Park or Wildlife Refuge.

LAUREN COVINGTON Mrs. Covington has greatly helped me my junior and senior years with ACT work, college preparation, and FAFSA, and especially this

year has worked really hard to help me fill out scholarship applications and essays. I could not have gotten all of the scholarships that I have received without her kindness and hard work.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Speech and Debate has been a part of my high school career since my freshman year and it has proved to be one of my favorite parts of the past four years. Between the incredible mentors I have had as coaches, as well as my teammates who have become some of my closest friends, the people alone have changed my life in the most positive way.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I plan to attend college next fall, and will be majoring in English and Social Anthropology.

DAVE BUDT Mr. Budt was initially my AP European History teacher and from that class alone he taught me a lot, not only about the world, but also about being an informed individual and looking at the world in multiple perspectives. He pushed me to be more confident in my speaking and to be willing to take risks even if I was nervous. He always made it his mission to not only educate us during practice, whether that be through learning new speaking styles, creating better examples, etc., but to also teach us how to be genuinely good people. Whether I was dealing with stress

from school or applying to colleges he was always there to offer advice and support. Through his teaching and coaching, he has pushed me to be the best person I can be, which I’m incredibly thankful for.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Anatomy and Physiology junior year with Mrs. Drahos was the best class ever

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Next year I will be attending MSU in the fall, likely going to study Nursing but may also choose to study Virology or psychology. Either way I plan on working in the medical field.

DAWN DRAHOS Ms. Drahos has been the most influential educator in my life because she has been an amazing teacher and mentor to me for the last

two years and has helped remind me that there is a balance to life. She is one of the major role models in my life and she is a compassionate leader for all her students.

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE The student section at football and basketball games. The flash mob after the talent show senior year. One thing that I will always remember about BHS are the excellent and caring teachers.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE To go to college for four years and get commissioned as an Officer in the Navy.

JACOB MALCZYK I chose Mr. Malczyk because he makes it a

point to express and show that he genuinely cares about all of his students, and he expects me to do great, and knows that I will

OLIVIA WATERTON PARENTS Nigel and Lauren Waterton

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Some of my favorite experiences have been through the speech and debate team. Winning state this year was totally gratifying, but at the same time, just having practice with everyone was some of the most fun.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE At this point I am choosing between Rhodes College, Macalester College and University of Montana, studying International Relations.

DAVE BUDT Mr. Budt was my event coach for speech and debate, and one of my favorite teachers as well. I first had Mr.B for AP Euro, and marked a massive change in my education. He was one of the first teachers that actually ‘believed’ in us. Not in the traditional sense, but more of a “I believe you’re a capable person who’s able to do things by themselves” sense. He encouraged self motivation, personal responsibility and work ethic that really changed how I went about school. On top of that, having him as a speech coach, I saw another side of Mr.B, a side that was there when you needed it, ready to drop some serious truth-bombs that change your entire perspective.

So he’s pretty much changed everything. No biggie. Mr. B always gave up so much for us, spending nights and weekends away from home and it’s that sacrifice that made a difference. 25

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Montana State Honors College, Medical School, Doctors Without Borders

JIM L. THOMPSON Mr. Thompson not only displayed to me the most passion and interest in his subject and his students, but showed me how much fun you can have in life if you do what you love and

display endless kindness and compassion towards others. He taught me how to be towards others and how to be in life, which is more valuable than anything in our books last year.

KENENNI WIEGAND PARENTS Bruce and Maury Wiegand

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE Biomed with Mrs. Washtak, Mrs. Barton, and especially Mrs.Drahos have not only further piqued my previous interests in medicine, but also provide an environment in their classroom where they made it easy to be yourself, and they encouraged and fed your curiosity no matter how far off tangent it might be. These teachers and my former Cross Country coach, Clint May, have been the greatest mentors not only throughout high school, but also in the years to come.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE I will be attending the College of Arts and Science at Cornell University for undergraduate where I hope to major in Biological Sciences and minor in Philosophy. Then I’ll apply to the University of Washington School of Medicine for medical school.

DAWN DRAHOS She is and has been a constant source of inspiration. She has a way of teaching that makes you want to go home and continue to research whatever topic you were learning in class. A 15 minute assignment, ended up taking me three

hours because I so fascinated in what I was learning. Aside from being a great teacher, Mrs. Drahos is also supportive and goes out of her way to make sure her students are supported.

named SCHOLARSHIPS Upcoming programsLINKS TO LITERACYDid you know that each first grader in our Bozeman schools receive a free book every fall? This is because of the generous funding of the Schools Foundation “Links to Literacy” program. For the past 13 years, a copy of the selected read-aloud book is given to over 500 children each fall. Schools Foundation board members and volunteers distribute the book and talk to each first grade class. In addition to the book, all first graders and their families are invited to a special event at the Bozeman Public Library featuring hands-on activities to go with the book.

2016-2017 EDUCATOR SPARK GRANT HIGHLIGHTSThe Spark Grant program encourages creativity and innovation in our schools by giving teachers, staff and student groups the opportunity to secure financial support for materials or activities that would not otherwise be funded. Over the past 10 years, our Spark Grant program has given teachers, staff members and their students over $190,000 for unique projects, equipment and/or experiences. The Bozeman Schools Foundation funded over $20,000 in Spark Grants during the 2016-2017 school year.

It has been a great year for the Bozeman Schools Foundation and the Bozeman School District. The community has displayed its clear support for our schools by recently passing the bond to build a second High School. We continue to work diligently on our K-8 S.T.E.M. curriculum campaign. Our goal is to bring S.T.E.M. curriculum to all grades in our district’s eight Elementary and two Middle

Schools. Currently, we have reached 65% of our funding. After a year off, we had a great Spelling Bee event.

Congratulations to all the educators and students honored at tonight’s event. Our community is amazing at supporting all the excellent programs offered by many worthy organizations.

The Bozeman Schools Foundation appreciates each and every individual who has given their time, energy and financial gifts to support our efforts to ensure that the students of Bozeman are afforded a high quality education. We couldn’t do what we do without you.

Thank you!
