We approached several suppliers but quickly established a reseller partnership with LinITX. They have provided us with an excellent procurement and technical advice service, which has proven invaluable. The Ubiquiti Unifi Solution is an inexpensive managed wireless system that is ideal for primary schools with a limited budget and a need for reliable connectivity. The access points themselves are small, stylish and can be powered by the supplied POE adapters. Unifi access points are managed through the free controller software, which is simple to install and manage. Once the Unifi access points are set up, the controller software does not actually need to be running for the wireless network to work. It works well with iPads and the feedback we have received has been excellent. Since 2012, 123ICT have completed nearly 100 Ubiquiti Unifi wireless installations, which make it by far the most popular choice of wireless network in Oxfordshire primary schools. Case Study Radley CE Primary School, is located 5 miles south of Oxford and provides education for around 140 pupils aged 4 to 11. In March 2014, the school took out a support contract with 123ICT and Stuart Wicker was allocated as their consultant. One of the first issues Stuart highlighted was poor wireless connectivity, which meant that teachers couldn’t expect more than 15 concurrent users. A new wireless system was recommended and the school quickly identified two main requirements: • 30 – 50 concurrent users • Mobile devices such as netbooks and iPads to be easily connected to the internet no matter of location within the school Solution: Due the solid structure of the school, Stuart recommended 7 x Ubiquiti UniFi Pro access points which offer a range of 400ft and operate in both the 2.4 and 5GHz frequency bands. The UniFi Pro also has a Gigabit Ethernet Port and is 802.3af Compliant. The access points were powered by a Netgear GS110TP, 8 Port Gigabit POE Smart Switch. Outcome: • Wireless coverage for the entire school • Over 50 users connected at one time • Saving of £4k compared to other managed wireless solutions • Happy customer Testimonial: “We have been delighted by the Unifi Wireless System installed for us by 123ICT.
