By Mila Besich-Lira The Pinal County Planning and Zoning commission will have a hearing on Jan. 17, 2013 to approve or deny a request to open Pinal County’s fi rst medical marijuana facility in Duddleyville. The application was submitted by Paul Shaub, Dr. Glenn Wilt and Gregory Rowles. The three member board plans on opening the Pinal County Wellness Center to distribute marijuana to authorized prescription users. The dispensary will

be located on property owned by Dr. Wilt across Valentine Road from the Minit Mart on Highway 77. Wilt owns dozens of properties throughout the Copper Corridor. According to the submitted application, there are 73 medical marijuana authorization cards in the Community Health Action Area (CHAA) #94 as of August 13, 2012. The CHAA area will serve Dudleyville, San Manuel, Oracle as well as other surrounding communities. According to the

Medical marijuana dispensary

medical marijuana law, a prescription holder can grow their own marijuana under certain requirements. If the facility should open card holders in CHAA #94 will not be allowed to grow their own marijuana. If the application is recommended for approval by the commission, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors will have fi nal approval on the application. If the Board approves, the Planning and Zoning department will then complete an administrative site review to ensure that the building requirements, such as parking, are met. The Arizona Department of Health Services will review, authorize and monitor the medical marijuana dispensary permitting once the business location is set. For more information or see a copy of the permit application you can review it online at: http://www.pinalcountyaz.gov/Departments/PlanningDevelopment/Lists/NOHPZ/Attachments/117/SUP01012.pdf

Ways

It is that time of the year again when people in the Copper Basin consider

who they would like to see as the 2012 Citizen of the Year. There are many

Nominations sought for Citizen of the Year 2012people in the Copper Basin Area who work behind the scenes with community projects seeing that every thing runs smoothly. The deadline for submitting your nomination letter is Friday, Feb. 1. Citizen of the Year criteria is as follows: (1) The Citizen of the Year (COY) award is bestowed upon the individual who has

contributed to the quality of life in the Copper Basin Tri Community area. (2) A person should be nominated for voluntary work performed within the previous year or before. (3)Nominees must live or work in the Copper Basin Communities. (4) Any member of the community may nominate someone for COY. However, former COY’s are not eligible to nominate

anyone for COY since they are involved in the selection process. (5) Letters of nomination must be signed. (6) There will be no ties for COY with one exception; husband and wife teams may win as one. (7) No groups can be nominated (8) Former COY’s may not be nominated again. (9) Former nominees, those not chosen as COY,

may be re-nominated. Everyone who has been nominated will attend the COY dinner and will be recognized along with the winner of the award. Submit letters in a sealed envelope to the Chamber Director as early as possible prior to the deadline. The Citizen of the Year will be announced at the Annual Dinner Monday, Feb. 25, 2013

There will be a public meeting held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 for the purpose of answering questions regarding the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Collection System. The meeting will be held in the Town Council Chambers located at 520 North Velasco Avenue from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The homeowners of Hayden will be

individually responsible to make sure all nonpermanent obstructions are moved off the proposed path of the sewer line from their property line to their homes. Failure to keep the pathway clear may prevent the Contractor from constructing the sewer service to the house. If this happens, the sewer line will only be constructed from the street to the

property line and it will be capped. The homeowner may be fi nancially responsible for connecting to the service line at a later date if the obstructions are not removed by the homeowner before the Contractor leaves the area. The construction company will notify individual homeowners several days prior to beginning the hookups.

Homeowners are assured that any damage or disturbance to homeowner’s property will be left in the same condition as it was before the construction of the individual sewer hookups. Homeowners are encouraged to take pictures of their property before the construction to ensure that everything is left as it was before the construction began.
