February 5, 2016
Greetings in the Precious Name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior!
I want to thank each of you for again making last year’s session of our State Convention and State Congress another blessed success. We were successful spiritually and financially. Let’s work together to reach even higher heights this year. Our 66th Annual Session will take place nightly March 21-24, 2016, at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Suite B; 1775 Mem[his Street, Suite B, Hernando, Mississippi – yours truly Dr. Michael O. Minor, host pastor. This year’s theme is Envisioning the Future Exceptionally: Through Our Commitment to Christian Stewardship (Jeremiah 29:11, 1 Corinthians 4:1-2).
Our State Congress Dean Ms. Loretta Miller and her team have been working hard to offer us a quality set of courses, seminars, and workshops. We know we have some of the best instructors in the country. That commitment to excellence was evidenced by Pastor Callaway Bain’s (Mt. Olive-Horn Lake) winning the SSPB’s Southwest Region 1 Instructor of the Year Award last December. This year, we have two new seminar offerings: S301 “Passion Week” Teaching: Lessons from the Master Teacher – Dr. Jevon Marshall, and S806 YAHWEH Shalom: The LORD Is Peace – Pastor Bernard Montgomery. This will be the last year for Course 2092 A Christian View toward Racial Understanding - Pastor Callaway Bain.
Let’s not forget the area’s remaining certified 2016 Christian Leadership Schools highlighted by the Hammond Hill Congress July 18-22, 2016, at Brown – South Campus, President Bernard Montgomery, and the Sardis Northeast Congress July 25-28, 2016, at Liberty-Coldwater, President Moshiu Knox. See the back of this year’s congress program guide for the dates of additional Christian education opportunities or visit our regional calendar at www.midsouthchurches.com/calendar.
In closing, we are grateful to God for each of you and for your continued support. Let’s come to be “Renewed, Refreshed, and Revived”!
Yours for the cause of Christ,Dr. Michael O. MinorYour Congress and State Convention President

About Your CongressVision: The Original State Congress’ work will reach completion at the Second Coming of Christ. In short, the vision of the State Congress is heaven (Hebrews 12.22-24; Revelation 21.2, 9-10; John 14.2).
Mission: The Original State Congress embraces the Great Commission (Matthew 28.19-20) as its mission seeking to save unsaved souls and help saved souls through Christian education.
Goals: Our Original State Congress goals are To equip and train the people of God directly and indirectly by providing opportunities for local
churches, districts, and other unions to be certified while fostering love, humility and unity; To continue affiliation with the National Baptist Congress; and To continue certification by the Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB).
Brief HistoryThe Original North Mississippi Baptist State Congress of Christian Education (Congress) traces its origin to the year 1938 with the expansion of the Paradise Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU) under the leadership of Deacon Dan Robinson (New Hope-Walls). The BTU continued meeting annually until 1954. From 1954-1966, there was a period of inactivity. However, in 1966, the Congress was reorganized at Independent-Tyro as the North Mississippi Baptist Education Congress with Pastor L. S. Biles (Carroll Bluff) elected as president and Pastor V. B. Brown (St. Paul) as Dean. Other Deans include Pastor T. J. Denson (1970-1977, West Antioch #2), Deacon S. D. Minor, Sr. (Mt. Calm, 1977-1988), Ms. Mable Lawrence (1988-2010, Hickory Grove), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill, 2011-2012), Ms. Loretta Miller (Prince of Peace, 2013-present). Other Presidents include: Pastor Jacob Davis (1987-1989, Hammond Hill), Pastor CJ Thomas (1989-2009, Pleasant Hill), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill, 2009-present)

2016 Courses, Seminars & Workshops**S301 “Passion Week” Teaching: Lessons from the Master TeacherDr. Jevon Marshall and Lady Deborah Marshall, Antioch-WallsHow do we keep the spirit of “Passion Week” going 52 weeks of the year? This class will focus on the teachings of Jesus during the last week of HIS life. Lessons of suffering for the teacher; lessons of “boldness of life”; Jesus’ lesson on witnessing while using the need for the teachable moment; Jesus’ lesson of teaching all levels at the same time and in small groups as ministry and Jesus taught the disciples to work under the current situation but still working through the will that God set for their lives. W310 Children’s Workshop &W320 iROCK: Youth WorkshopPastor Glen Newson, Greater Lake Cormorant; Evang. Marsha Campbell, Shiloh; Ms. Emma Oliver, Antioch-Walls & Minister Quinton Taylor, Antioch-WallsHow do children and youth learn to rely on Christ in every aspect of their loves? The goal of this class is to provide the students with vital tips and tools on how they “can rely on Christ the King” as their protector, provider and priest through their words and action. In this interactive workshop, they will be introduced to techniques of holding true to Jesus Christ through various teaching strategies. **S806 YAHWEH Shalom: The LORD Is PeacePastor Bernard Montgomery, New BethanyWhy does the meaning behind shalom go deeper than just the absence of conflict or being calm? Students will explore the meaning of shalom as wholeness, finished,
perfection, safety, and wellness. True shalom comes when one abides with God in a covenant relationship because He alone gives complete satisfaction, fulfillment and harmony with Himself and others. Many people are broken, lost and fearful. Only a true encounter with YAHWEH Shalom, the source of all peace, and His son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will bring peace in the deepest meaning of the word. This course is part of the health ambassador training series sponsored by Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church Ministries/Get Covered Mississippi!2092 A Christian View toward Racial UnderstandingPastor Callaway Bain, Mt. Olive-Horn Lake How do Christians deal with prejudices from a spiritual perspective? Students will become familiar with the meaning of prejudices from a spiritual perspective and the responsibilities of Christians as they relate to judging persons based on various life categories in addition to race – such as age religious beliefs, sexual preferences, socioeconomic status, and the like. W205 Liturgical Dance in the African American Church Mr. Nardo Franklin, Pleasant HillHow can we be creative in worship without being worldly? Gospel dance, as praise dance, grew out of the African-American church. Gospel dance is dramatic and theatrical; it uses elements of the theater such as miming. This workshop is open to all ages but especially to youth and young adults ages 13-21. During interactive sessions, participants will focus on the Biblical basis for music in the church and liturgical (praise) dance as well as learn creative ways to perform. Participants will perform during the Youth Rally on Thursday night.**New Courses for 2016
