Dear Parents and Friends of the School
LAWRENCE AREA SCHOOLCommunity Newsletter
4 September 2014No 11
We have been having lots of fun and games at school recently with a raft of interhouse activities at
lunchtimes, involving our juniors, middle school and seniors.
These have been coordinated by Miss Hyslop, supporting teachers and senior students. Our seniorstudents have contributed in a number of ways; as house leaders, but more importantly as PhysicalEducation students completing tasks for Achievement Standards.
Yr 11 students are working on a unit called TAKE ACTION TO ASSIST. For JJ Houpapa-Barrett andEden Wilson the focus is lifting house spirit.
For Eloise McLauglin the focus is on umpiring - in this case our junior netballers who took part in theOtago Primary School Netball Tournament held this week.
For Eden and JJ part of their studies has been to organise interhouse events, looking at andcoordinating all aspects that make an event successful. They have organised: a Touch RugbyTournament, Rippa Rugby Tournament and a scary event called FOOD FACTOR.
Students of all ages took part, with each age level being catered for. Games were played inexcellent spirit with honours shared Woods and Read. The FOOD FACTOR was an entirely differentaffair with teams racing each other to eat horrible concoctions of food and drink. Bravery was reallyneeded as the taste buds were assaulted by disgusting mixtures.
Teachers foolishly joined to help teams. Much amusement for all. Those to be held responsible for
any future eating disorders, Mrs Murray and Miss Hyslop. Again house honours appeared to beshared.
In addition a really challenging Maths Quiz was held in the Library, with a myriad of questions foryoung and old. Woods definitely took the honours.
The result of these activities is a lift in house spirit, a determination to participate, and good heartedrivalry. Well done to everyone involved.
Kind Regards John Auld
