    Kura Tuatahi o Whakatu greetings to friends andfamily of Nelson Central School.

    Last week the Student Council successfully opened thenew equipment in the Adventure Playground. Thank youvery much to the School Community Group who providedand installed the equipment. Thanks also to Christine andthe Student Council who organised the opening ceremony.

    Soon we will be opening the new ball wall and the Junglearea between the slide and the bike cage.

    Childrens WritingThis weeks writing samples come from our youngestwriters our five year old children. You will notice thedifference in what new five year olds can do when

    compared with the efforts of older five year olds. Yes,even a few months makes a big difference!

    Guy FawkesOn 5th of November it was Guy Fawkes. Guy was naughty.He got some gun powder. He wanted to shoot King James.He got caught. Now we will celebrate. (Ruby, aged 5 yearsR10)

    On 5th of November it was Guy Fawkes night and I madefireworks with dad. Guy Fawkes was not nice to KingJames and he had a plan. His plan was not good. I like GuyFawkes Day. (Lois, aged 5 years, R10).

    On Friday me and mum also dad and Zoe celebrated GuyFawkes. We set our fireworks on our lawn. Guy Fawkes ison the fifth of November. I love Guy Fawkes. (Theo, aged5 years, R12)

    A re-telling of an old favouriteOnce upon a time there were 3 Billy Goats Gruff. Theywere very hungry but there was a bad troll under thebridge. The little goat crossed the bridge. The troll said,Whos that trip trapping over my bridge? Then the otherone crossed it. The troll didnt notice. Then the biggest onecrossed it. The troll noticed but he butted him into the

    river. Splash went the troll. He shouted and shouted.(Abby, aged 5 years, R11)

    NELSON CENTRAL AIR GUITAR

    Last Wednesday was our great Air Guitar challenge. Have

    Nelson Inter-School Tennis Tournament 2010

    Last Wednesday a number of pupils from NelsonCentral School attended the Nelson Inter-School Tennis

    Tournament. Boys played at Tasman Tennis Centre,Richmond and girls played at Nelson Lawns TennisClub.All players played a minimum of 3 games against year5/6 players from the Nelson region.

    Congratulations to all playerson their wonderfulsportsmanship and greateffort.

    A big congratulations to Nic C(R1) on his wonderful effort -

    runner up in the boyscompetition and specialmention must go to Psalm H(R15) and Evie W (R2) whoboth reached the quarterfinalsof the girls competition. Welldone.

    First game up for the second half of the season sawHenley score a respectable 91/3. Tight bowling fromLachie M (R7) and David Z (R7) initially tied down the

    Henley openers before Thomas Z (R1) chimed in with1/5, Kyle C (R7) with 1/3 and Josh D (R8) animpressive 0/3 from his two overs. In reply NelsonCentral made 143 (apparently a record in the 20 overformat for this team) with most of the boys getting astart - Lachie 15 not out, Thomas 20 not out and NicC (R1) 48 not out.

    Wanderers batted first on the Maitai artificial pitch andscored 51 runs thanks to some very tight and

    accurate bowling from most of our bowlers. "Extras"top scored with 19 so some work to do on line andlength. Best bowling this week from David Z 1/1 fromhis 3 overs, Max H (R7) on debut an impressive 2/5and Kyle C 1/4 from his two overs. In reply Centralquickly got under way - Nic C and Thomas Z openingwith a good partnership, a dip in the middle orderwhen we lost some wickets before David Z, Lachie Mand Max H provided some very useful contributionstowards the end. Scores of note - Nic 44, Thomas 22not out, David 20, Lachie 11 not out and Max 10.
