ELERMORE
ENDEAVOUR
Term 2 Week 2 10th May 2019
.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow, what a busy week! We have had students
presenting speeches, representing in sport, singing at
ChoralFest and the start of our Winter PSSA
competitions. Added to this has been ongoing
improvement work around our school and our
wonderful MAGS morning tea as well as our normal
school classwork. EVPS is definitely an exciting place.
NAPLAN begins on Tuesday for all students in Years 3
and 5. These assessments will be conducted online for
Year 5, while Year 3 will complete the writing in a
booklet and then do the rest of their assessments online
as well. There will be some minor alteration to recess
times as we ensure all of our students sitting these
assessments have the best opportunity to shine.
Thank you to the school community for your great
support of the ‘Adopt a Famer’ initiative, with many of
our students and staff coming to school on Wednesday
out of uniform. $362.35 was raised by our school and will
go directly to Rural Aid who will be dispersing the
money raised to farmers to spend in their communities.
Work has commenced with the construction of the ‘Kiss
and Ride’ shelter at the front of the school. This will be a
great addition and we are very thankful to the P&C for
their contributions in assisting with this project.
The Elermore Vale students continue to impress me with
their attitude and approach to school work and
involvement in extra- curricular activities. This week we
have had our school choir performing at ChoralFest
with Mrs Robertson and being awarded with a Highly
Commended. Our Boys PSSA Soccer Team played
Minmi PS and had an emphatic victory to progress to
the next round. Mr Boatfield was impressed by the
sportsmanship and teamwork that the team displayed.
I hope our ‘MAGS’ who were able to join us today
enjoyed themselves visiting the school and having
some morning tea. A big thank you to Mrs Fernyhough
for her organisation and the rest of the staff and school
leaders who assisted us in this event. We also would like
to thank our parent volunteers who ran the Mother’s
Day stall on Wednesday for our students. We hope
everyone enjoys a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
On Monday the Stage 2 and 3 finals were held for the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition.
Last term each of our Stage 2 and Stage 3 classes provided opportunities for all students to prepare and present
a speech which reflected their understanding of a chosen topic with an underlying emphasis on Multiculturalism.
Two students from each class were selected to represent their class and at the stage assembly. They were judged
on their ability to present in a really loud, clear voice, regularly use eye contact and engage with the audience,
as well as demonstrate a deep knowledge of their topic. Two students from each stage final will have the
opportunity to represent our school and the local school finals later this term. Congratulations to our winners and
all our finalists who spoke extremely well on the day. We are extremely proud of you. In Stage 2 first place was
awarded Emma H and our runner up was Ashleigh L. In Stage 3 first place was awarded to Bridget W and our
runner up was Mackenzie L. Best wishes to these students for the next level later in the term.
