Course Description

This premier three-day course highlights interventional cardiology topics and information with practical application in studying for board certification in interventional cardiology.

This course covers basic aspects of interventional cardiology, including catheterization laboratory equipment, radiation physics and safety, pharmacology, and procedural planning and performance. Specific patient lesion and procedural characteristics are highlighted, including a review of challenging cases.

Lectures are followed by multiple choice test questions utilizing an audience response system.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Formulate invasive treatment plans based on patient characteristics

• Assess patient risk for interventional procedures

• Diagnose and manage common procedural complications

• Identify state-of-the-art concepts in interventional cardiology

Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course.

Intended Audience

This course is primarily intended for cardiologists and cardiovascular fellows preparing for the ABIM Interventional Cardiology (re)certification exam. This course also provides a focused state-of-the-art review of interventional cardiology topics for all cardiovascular practitioners and trainees.

The 10th Annual Mayo Clinic Interventional Cardiology Board Review course will be held September 27-29, 2013. Course headquarters will be located in the Ballroom of the second floor of the Marriott Hotel in downtown Rochester. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connect Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.

Course Syllabus

An electronic course syllabus will be provided to attendees at the course. Outlets will be available in the room and you are encouraged to bring your laptop or iPad to access the electronic syllabus during the lectures.

Travel

Rochester, Minnesota, is a friendly city that greets thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The city is serviced by a modern international airport with multiple flights daily via American or Delta Airlines. Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car. The airport is located approximately 10 miles from the Mayo Clinic campus.

Note to Travelers: Several cities in the United States are named Rochester. When you make airline reservations and check your baggage, be sure that your destination is Rochester, Minnesota (RST) and that your baggage has been properly tagged.
