Before installation

Before installation, it is importantto read the information given on thefollowing pages as well as the“Warning and Safety instructions” atthe beginning of this booklet.

Installation recommendations- To achieve optimum vapour

extraction, the rangehood must bepositioned centrally over the cooktop,not to the side.

- The cooktop should be no wider thanthe rangehood and, if possible, itshould be narrower, especially forsafety distances greater than750 mm.

- The installation area must be easilyaccessible. The rangehood should beeasily accessible and easy todismantle in the event that service isrequired. This should be taken intoconsideration when planning theposition of cupboards, shelves,ceilings or features in the vicinity ofthe rangehood.

Appliance dimensions

a The front section of the wall housing unit must be fitted with a shelf to thedepth of the partition wall. If the appliance is fitted further back, e.g. toaccommodate a front panel, then the shelf depth should be correspondinglydeeper.

b The partition wall in the wall unit must be removable.

c For extraction mode: the height of the wall unit and the cut-out dimensionsmust take account of any accessories fitted, e.g. a silencer.

d Recirculation mode with conversion kit DUU 151.

f When installing the rangehood with a DAR 3000 drop-down frame, make surethat you note the different wall unit height (please refer to the dimensions givenin the DAR 3000 building-in diagram).

Safety distance (S)

The minimum distances between the cooking surface of a cooktop (pansupport(s) for gas models) and the bottom of the rangehood are as follows,unless a greater distance is specified by the manufacturer of your cookingappliance. See also “Warning and Safety instructions”.

If you are fitting a front panel made of wood or plastic to the rangehood,observe the safety distances given by the cooktop manufacturer regarding theuse of easily flammable materials.

a Example: Installation without a frontpanel fitted and with the front edgeof the deflector plate flush with thefront edge of the furniture housingunit. This installation needs a shelf ofat least 95 mm deep.

b Example: Installation with a frontpanel to match the kitchen furniture.This installation requires dimensionb for the front panel plus 5 mm forthe DML 400 fixing bracket to beadded to the shelf dimension.The shelf must be correspondinglydeeper.

The remaining installation gap must beat least 180 mm in depth. If it is smallerthan 180 mm, position the appliancefurther back, and reduce measurementT accordingly. The position of the deflector plate canbe adjusted in depth by a maximum of35 mm at the front.

To position the rangehood correctly, cutthe spacer strip to the required depth Tand then attach it to the back of theappliance:T= Depth of furniture unit K minusdepth of appliance G

Cut the spacer strip supplied tomeasurement T. Score along thegroove for the smaller measurementas shown, and remove the surplus.

Secure the spacer strip underneaththe housing unit sides, flush with therear wall.

Draw a vertical line up both insidewalls of the housing from the front ofthe spacer strip.

The brackets are designed for 16 and19 mm thick unit sides. Orientate thebracket so that the vertical depthmatches the thickness of the unitside.Screw the brackets onto the right andleft inside walls of the housing unit asshown. The back edge of the bracketshould align with the vertical linedrawn up from the front of the spacerstrip and the lower edge should alignwith the lower edge of the housingunit side wall.

To avoid scratching the deflectorplate, do not remove the protectivefilm between the deflector plate andthe casing until the rangehood hasbeen placed in the housing unit.

Installation of the rangehood iscarried out without the grease filterplaced in position. If the grease filterhas already been fitted, then it shouldbe removed (see “Cleaning andcare”).

Lift the appliance up into the housingunit from below until the springmounts at the side engage in thebrackets.

Push the rangehood back against thespacer strip.

Note for dismantling the rangehood:Undoing the screws on the left andright inside the housing releases thespring mounts, allowing the applianceto be removed from the unit.

Secure the rangehood to the bracketsfrom below using two screws on eachside.

Pull out the deflector plate andremove the protective film betweenthe deflector plate and the casing.

Secure the rangehood to the floor ofthe housing unit from below using 4screws (6 screws are required for a90 cm wide rangehood).

To avoid damaging the deflectorplate when it is pulled out, careshould be taken to screw the fixingscrews in straight and to ensure thatthe screw heads are countersunk.

Secure the spacer strip to the back ofthe appliance from behind using 4plastic rivets as shown.

Attaching the front panelThe front of the deflector plate can befitted with a front panel to matchexisting kitchen furniture units. The weight of the front panel must notexceed 1300 g. This applies to frontpanels with a depth of up to 30 mm. Forlarger and heavier front panels, theweight must be reduced, e.g. bymachining it away at the back.

A DML 400 installation kit is required forfitting a front panel. It is available as anoptional accessory.

Follow the installation instructionssupplied.

Aligning the deflector plateThe position of the deflector plate canbe brought forward by up to 35 mmusing the adjusting screws on eitherside of the deflector plate. This allowsthe deflector plate to be aligned to thefront of the kitchen furniture units oneither side.

Use a screwdriver to align thedeflector plate correctly.

Fitting the grease filter

Remove the protective foil around theedge of the grease filter.

When fitting the grease filter, makesure that the red plastic guides are atthe front and facing upwards.

Place the grease filter in the front ofthe deflector plate, press it upwardsand push it in together with thedeflector plate. It will slide onto theretaining pins at the back. Finally,push the grease filter back a littlemore.

Exhaust connection

If required, install the non-return flap.Check that the flap opens easily andcloses by itself.

Secure the exhaust ducting to theexhaust connection, e.g. with a hoseclip (available as an optionalaccessory) on flexible ducting.

Place the exhaust ducting on theexhaust connection for therangehood.

Set up for recirculation modeIf site conditions are not suitable for therangehood to be used with airextraction, the appliance must be setup for recirculation. The DUU 151conversion kit, available from Miele, isrequired for operating the rangehood inrecirculation mode. You will also need acharcoal filter (see “Technical data”).

Fit the conversion kit as described inthe installation instructions suppliedwith the kit. Make sure that the slatsin the exhaust grille point towards the

centre of the room and not towards awall or the ceiling.A non-return flap is not used inrecirculation mode.

Fit the charcoal filter (see “Cleaningand care”).

Mains connection

Refer to the notes in “Electricalconnection” and “Warning andSafety instructions” beforeconnecting to the electricity supply.

Plug the connection cable into anelectrical socket.

Electrical connectionThe rangehood must only be connectedto a properly installed AC 230 V ~ 50 Hzearthed socket.The electrical installation must be incompliance with current local andnational safety regulations.

For extra safety, it is advisable toprotect the appliance with a suitableresidual current device (RCD) with a tripcurrent of 30 mA.

Connection via a socket isrecommended as it facilitates servicingof the appliance. The socket should beeasily accessible after the appliancehas been installed.

If the socket is no longer accessibleafter installation, an additional means ofdisconnection must be provided for allpoles which complies with national andlocal safety regulations. Suitable meansof disconnection include switches withan all-pole contact gap of at least3 mm.These include isolator switches, fusesand relays.

The relevant connection data can befound on the data plate (see "Service").Ensure that this data matches thevoltage and frequency of yourhousehold mains supply.

Connection for air extraction

Before installation, it is importantto read the information given on thefollowing pages as well as the“Appliance dimensions” and the“Warning and Safety instructions” atthe beginning of this booklet. This isparticularly crucial when using therangehood at the same time as aheating appliance that relies onoxygen from the same room, whichcould result in the build-up of toxicfumes.The rangehood should be installedaccording to local and nationalbuilding regulations. Seek approvalfrom the building inspector wherenecessary.

Only use smooth pipes or flexibleducting made from approved non-flammable materials for exhaustducting.

To achieve the greatest possible airextraction with the lowest noise level,please note the following:

- The diameter of the exhaust ductingshould not be less than 150 mm.

- If flat ducting is being used, thecross-section must not be smallerthan the cross-sectional area of theexhaust connection.

- The exhaust ducting should be asshort and straight as possible.

- Only use wide radius bends.

- The exhaust ducting must not bekinked or compressed.

- Ensure that all connections arestrong and airtight.

- If the ducting has flaps, these mustbe opened when the rangehood isswitched on.

Remember that any constriction ofthe airflow will reduce extractionperformance and increase operatingnoise.

If the exhaust is ducted through anoutside wall, a telescopic wall vent ora roof vent (available as an optionalaccessory) is recommended.

If the exhaust air is to be ducted intoa vent flue, the ducting must bedirected in the flow direction of theflue.

If the flue is used by severalventilation units, the cross-section ofthe flue must be large enough.

Where ducting is horizontal, it mustbe laid to slope away at at least 1 cmper metre. This is to ensure thatcondensate cannot drain back intothe rangehood.

If the exhaust ducting is to runthrough rooms, ceiling space etc.there may be great variations intemperature between the differentareas. The problem of condensation

will need to be addressed. Theexhaust ducting will need to besuitably insulated.

Miele will not accept warranty claimsfor any functional defects or damagecaused by inadequate ducting.

Condensate trap

In addition to insulating the exhaustducting, we recommend that a suitablecondensate trap is also installed tocollect and evaporate any condensatewhich may occur.Condensate traps are available for125 mm or 150 mm ducting.

When installing a condensate trap,ensure that it is positioned verticallyand, if possible, directly above theexhaust socket.The arrow on the housing indicatesthe direction of airflow.

Silencer

To achieve even further reductions innoise levels, a special silencer (optionalaccessory) can be fitted in the ductingsystem.

Air extraction mode

The silencer not only reduces noisefrom the motor outside the house, butalso sounds from outside (e.g. trafficnoise). For this reason, the silencermust be positioned as close as possibleto the ducting exit .

Recirculation mode

The silencer needs to be positionedbetween the exhaust connection andthe exhaust grille . Ensure there isadequate space for fitting it.
