Recommended Actions: Department for 2009

1. Carry Over: Develop a 5 year (long term) plan Owner: Faculty NOT MET – tabled for a later time

2. Start-up annual fund raising effort for department endowment Owner: Faculty/IAB Alumni have been e-mailed as needs arise

3. Offer technical electives/graduate courses Owner: Faculty Riley – Fuel Cell Tech Fall 2009, Leclerc – Cat. Characteriz. Fall 2009, Tartis – Biomedical Eng. Spring 2010

4. Connect AIChE with three facilities to tour Owner: Faculty/IAB CEHMS – algae grower, ??, ??

5. Reach out to alumni and new companies in New Mexico to become involved in the development and direction of the program. Owner: Board Invited Jason Harper to join IAB

Educational Objectives

Page 15: 10:30 State of the Department: Statistics, Ed Object, ABET 11:30 Lunch w/Students

Educational Objectives:

1. We will develop complete engineers who can: solve problems,

experiment, innovate, be resourceful, and champion ideas through effective communication.

2. We will engender an understanding of the broad reach of a modern

Chemical Engineering education and the array of knowledge required to implement solutions which will benefit our society.

3. We will provide a conduit to successful careers in the spectrum of fields

which benefit from a command of the principles of Chemical Engineering.

4. We will foster a life long love of learning, opening doors to graduate study and enabling graduates to adapt to changes and opportunities in the profession.

Page 16: 10:30 State of the Department: Statistics, Ed Object, ABET 11:30 Lunch w/Students

Recommended Actions: Educational Objectives for 20091. Overhaul/organize long term assessment plan (Owner: Faculty)

IN PROGRESS

2. Evaluate senior design presentation with quantitative results (Owner: Faculty and IAB) – DONE (must evaluate the evaluation tool)

3. Re-evaluate use and value of FE Exam results (Owner: Faculty) DONE – plan to use 2 year moving averages and

monitor slope of curve, reconnected with S. Alabama to obtain their data

4. Set-up annual review of alumni and graduates (Owner: Faculty) DONE – surveys out to 0,1,3 year grads

5. Review curriculum, i.e. evaluate pre-requisites, tech electives, coverage of

learning outcomes (Owner: Faculty) IN PROGRESS – added tech electives, ES pre-reqs under review, learning outcomes identified for each course, must evaluate CHE pre-reqs

Page 17: 10:30 State of the Department: Statistics, Ed Object, ABET 11:30 Lunch w/Students

Recommended Actions: Educational Objectives for 2010

1. Articulate long term assessment plan for Spring meeting (Owner: Faculty)

2. Prepare self-study for ABET (Owner: Faculty)

3. Increase unit-ops labs by 1 (Owner: Riley/Price)

4. Complete feasibility study to include safety in outcomes or objectives (Owner: Faculty)
