100 YEARS OF THE EXTRAORDINARY

From its origins as a Hiroshima cork manufacturer, today Mazda has become one of the world’s

most innovative carmakers. The ingredients for our outstanding success story are creativity,

hard work and courage: the courage to question common practices and forge new paths in

engineering and design that others considered unfeasible. Along the way, we have made history

by leaving a unique imprint on the automotive world, starting with the first ever commercial

launch of the rotary engine in the iconic Cosmo Sport 110S. We then created the world’s best-

selling two seat roadster, the iconic Mazda MX-5, which has sold over one million cars since

its launch in 1989 and introduced the first compression ignition petrol engine – Skyactiv-X. In

1991, we were the first Asian brand to win Le Mans and in 2020 we proudly introduced our

first fully-electrified vehicle, which is ready to impress the world once more with its unique

driving feel.

The 1960 Mazda R360

Launched in 1960, the Mazda R360 Coupe was our first passenger car, which became an icon

for Mazda. So, to celebrate our centenary, we have designed and built a limited edition of each

of our current Mazda range, based on the style of the original R360. Common features include

a white exterior body colour, Burgundy Red seat trim embossed with our 100th anniversary

logo, interior red carpets, a key fob with the 100th anniversary logo, a special exterior badge

and 100th anniversary wheel caps. The result is a look which combines our latest Kodo design

with the classic, retro looks of this iconic car.
