“He is an insensate man who can read the story of the widow and her two mites without searching and humiliating self-examination.”

Jesus sees our giving

Sitting across from the temple treasury, He watched how the crowd dropped money into the treasury.

Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes,

and He is the One to whom we are accountable.

Hebrews 4:13 NLT

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

(3) But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, (4) so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

… Many rich people put in large amounts. (42) Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.

(43) Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions

Do you really want to give? Then the gift is received in keeping with what you have, not with what you don't have.

I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at what is in the heart.

This poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.

It’s not our money

the good Lord needs,

But devotion of heart

for which He pleads!

Page 29: 100905 The Widows Offering Mark 12 41 44

Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

Page 30: 100905 The Widows Offering Mark 12 41 44

For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. (4) They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.

Page 31: 100905 The Widows Offering Mark 12 41 44

(5) They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
