BIOGRAPHIES
Joy TongJoy Tong founded All Special Kids (ASK), Geneva
Switzerland in 2003, in response to the lack of support
for Anglophone parents of children with special needs.
However, Joy’s experience and passion for supporting the
socially vulnerable and those with special needs has been
a life-long labour of love.
The story of ASK – as well as Joy’s own story – is one of
individuals coming together and collectively overcoming
significant challenges. A native of Burma, Joy immigrated
to the US as a refugee in 1979 with her parents, two
brothers and four sisters. For over two decades in the
US, Joy and her family lived out the American dream. Joy
dedicated herself to the underprivileged, applying her law degree and schooling to co-
found Burmese Women of New York, an advocacy group for the Burmese immigrant
victims of domestic violence, families struggling with HIV/AIDS, and those in need of
assistance within the New York City school system. In addition, until she moved to
Switzerland, Joy was the primary caregiver for her sister Linda, who has special needs
and severe learning difficulties.
In 1992, Joy gave birth to a daughter, Allegra, who was born with overall low muscle tone
and significant special needs. Joy then embarked upon a long journey of learning and
research. In 2001, Joy followed her husband to Switzerland where she struggled to find
the appropriate support services for Allegra. She began to network with other parents
to share information and experiences and found that there were a number of parents
in Geneva experiencing similar struggles; searching for specialists and seeking support
services for their children.
By 2003, Joy, together with five parents, founded Anglophone Special Kids, which was
a prelude to what is known today as All Special Kids (ASK). While the road to building
any organization is never smooth, Joy has been the constant driving force behind ASK,
creating solutions to accommodate a continually changing set of needs to a transient
population. Today, ASK’s mission has expanded beyond the initial support for children to
include their families, specialists, educators and schools across Switzerland and beyond.
For nearly a decade, Joy has continued to serve in a volunteer capacity. When asked her
motivation for such a tremendous commitment, Joy says simply, Allegra and those
children just like her.

Far removed from any artifice, Julien forges his way as a musician in his soul. His passions
remain fully intact and his music lets us into his magical world.
The French newspaper Libération said: “Julien Laurence is a looker, has style and
is profoundly soul. The man is sensitive and talented. He has travelled the world, lived in
Eastern Europe with the Gypsies and in Texas. He’s a work-horse, in the noble sense of
the word”.
François chapmanCelebrity French magician François Chapman is one of
the busiest magicians in the world. He splits his time
performing at prestigious private and public events around
the globe including New York, London, Dubai, Gstaad,
Saint-Tropez, and Monaco. He has appeared on television
including a performance on TF1, the premier television
station in France. For further information, François may
be contacted via [email protected].
Paul sutinPaul Sutin’s life has always been his love for music. From
composing, producing & engineering with artists such as
Jermaine Jackson, Phil Collins, Steve Howe, Nile Rogers
and Chris Coco, Sutin has developed a deep appreciation
for many styles of music. “DJ Dr Paul” as he is called with
his side-kick MC Fasai have been touring the VIP Clubbing
scene from Europe to Thailand since 2007. From Exotic
Dance to Latino-Cuban, French-Touch and Bollywood-
House DJ Dr PAUL always gets his inspiration from the
audience and never fails to bring out some of the “good
old” classics that appeal to all dance lovers. DJ Dr Paul’s
latest Chill Dance album is available on iTunes.
Julien LaurenceJulien Laurence is a songwriter, composer and singer
born in Switzerland.
Self-taught, Julien learnt at a very young age to play
piano, guitar and sing. Julien has travelled extensively
throughout the world avidly meeting people and
assimilating their respective cultures and finding himself
through these experiences. “ I feel like a citizen of the world
and a nomad….someone who finds himself and eclectic
definition of music. Music is for me the most intimate way
of expressing feelings; music is a language, the language
of emotions. What’s important is the sincerity and the
authenticity that’s put into doing the work.”
Julien is both a live musician and a studio artist; he lives his life as a musician to the fullest.
A very likeable person with a voice that fosters strong emotions, his talent has a powerful
force of seduction on his audience.
He produced his first album himself in 1995 with his trio “Wild Mango” with whom he
played at numerous music festivals, including Paleo, Montreux Jazz Festival, Caribana and
featuring with MPeople, K. Jones, FFF and Mori Kante to name just a few.
He was the runner-up in “La Nouvelle Star” on the M6 television show, which exposed him
widely to the public in 2004. There, he sang “As” from Stevie Wonder in a duet with Amel
Bent, which sold over 600’000 records.
In 2005, he worked with Phil Collins who produced Julien’s first hit single “Tout nous
Rappelle”. Phil Collins subsequently selected Julien to sing the French version of the
songs on the “Tarzan II” animated movie. Phil Collins said, ”I produced Julien Laurence
because he is a talented and generous young man. His demos were sent to me and I was
amazed, it really is that simple”.
In 2007, he produced the album “Jelem” in which he takes us through his own journeys
throughout the world. He then also released the albums, “Carousel” (2009), “Only Love”
(2010), “C’est comme ça que je t’aime” (2011) and “Je t’attends” (2012). With these albums,
he tours regularly in live concerts throughout Canada and Switzerland with his friend
Alain Morisod & ses Sweet People.

proven to be extremely successful.
Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, David Bennett was presented
with the prestigious Antwerp Diamond Career Award of Excellence for 1997 by the
Diamond High Council – a price awarded annually to a single influential individual in the
diamond trade. He was recently named among the top 300 “most influential persons in

AUCTIONEER
David BennettChairman of Jewellery, Europe and Middle East
Chairman, Sotheby’s Switzerland
A leading international authority in the field of precious
stones and jewellery, David Bennett was appointed
Chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery Department for Europe
and the Middle East in 2006 and Chairman of Sotheby’s
Switzerland in 2011.
Auctioneer for the firm since 1978, David Bennett has
orchestrated some of the most important jewellery
sales in the last thirty years, including the highest value
various owner jewellery auction ever held which totalled
$108 million in May 2012. Under his direction, Sotheby’s
Geneva set a series of records for white, pink, yellow, blue and green diamonds. David
Bennett’s most recent successes include the historic sale in November 2010 of the Graff
Pink, an extremely rare 24.78 carat Fancy Intense Pink diamond which fetched CHF 45.4
million ($46.2 million), a world record for a diamond and any jewel ever sold at auction. In
November 2011, David Bennett presided over the sale of the sun-Drop Diamond (renamed
the “Lady Dalal” by its new owner after his mother) for CHF 11,282,500 ($12,361,558),

expensive white diamonds in auction history – including the only D-Colour Internally
Flawless diamonds weighing more than 100 carats, ever to be sold under the hammer.
Under David Bennett’s leadership, Sotheby’s Geneva presented for sale jewels of supreme
historical importance. In May 2012, the legendary Beau sancy, one of the most important
royal diamonds to ever come to auction, sold for CHF 9,042,500 ($9,699,618), almost
five times the pre-sale low estimate of $2-4 million. In May 2011, David Bennett held the
hammer for the sale of a magnificent and extremely rare emerald and diamond tiara
formerly in the Collection of Princess Katharina Henckel von Donnersmarck which fetched
CHF 11.3 million ($12.7 million), the highest price ever achieved for a tiara at auction and a
world record for a piece of antique jewellery.
David Bennett’s longstanding expertise led him to be closely involved with iconic jewellery
collections, such as the legendary “Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor” in 1987, the Princely
Collections of Thurn und Taxis in 1992, as well as the collections of Ava Gardner, H.H.

Donated by The Children of 2012 ASK Summer Camp www.allspecialkids.org
Interpretation on KandinskyThis colourful abstract painting is the inspiring result of allowing the children at the ASK camps to work together towards a combined creative expression.
The children were first shown images of work by the painter Wassily Kandinsky, and encouraged to look for geometrical shapes in the work as well as discussing colour. Together, they have created a piece of art which is a joint exploration of shape and colour. Big bold circles, expressive splatterings, controlled lines and an experiment of paint mixing can all be seen within the work. As time went on, the children began to explore beyond their own areas, creating a finished piece without boundaries.

Carter - Ascend (with Modern sculpture), 2011*Carter’s paintings, drawings, sculpture and video work are characterized by his evocative use of layering and collage. Central to Carter’s project is an ongoing investigation of portraiture, transformation, and fragmented histories. The artist initially gained recognition for his “anonymous portraits” featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial; these works explored notions of identity, disguise, and self-portraiture through their clipped images of floating body parts and facial features. More recent works have depicted unoccupied modernist interiors that the artist overlays with gestural brushstrokes and floating figures. These haunted spaces serve, in a way, as portraits of their inhabitants, and investigate experiences of memory and history.

Benefitting All Special Kids (ASK)
Change a Child's Life: AsK CampMaking and playing with friends are two things that most children do naturally and are skills that we ordinarily take for granted. Yet for many children with special needs and related learning differences, these two aspects of childhood do not come easily. The effects of specific learning difference may in fact preclude children from interacting appropriately with their peers.
ASK's bilingual camps are staffed one-to-one with trained specialists that are dedicated to offering a haven for children between the ages of 5 and 19 who have special needs or specific learning differences. The camps are designed to encourage participation and to build the self-confidence, self-discovery and sense of accomplishment that these children so desperately seek.cHF 1,000 = 1 Week of ASK camp
