Please note that Medicare does not cover you outside of the United States.

Check with your health insurance company and see if they have an International Claims Form that you need to bring with you on international travel.

Contact your credit card company and homeowner’s insurance company as well, because they sometimes offer baggage loss, theft protection, medical benefits, and/or accidental death benefit.


2. Medical travel insurance covers you

in the event of illness or injury during your trip and, if necessary, for medical evacuation.

In some countries you will not be able to be treated with the proper care because of their limited resources. Make sure that you have medical evacuation on your plan, so that if this is the case you can be sent to a country that has the medical resources you need. Research the policies that you are looking at carefully, so you know what you are paying for in advance.


3. If you travel frequently, especially internationally,

consider additional Insurance from air ambulance card.

By getting additional coverage you can receive “prepaid hospital-to-hospital air ambulance transportation”. Once you are an annual member you can receive assistance to be brought to a hospital closer to your home, assuming they have the equipment needed.

offers protection in the event something unexpected forces you to cancel or interrupt your trip.

Cancelation and Interruption insurance covers you in certain situations, most of which will be outside your control, such as the death of a loved one, or bad weather.

both medical and trip cancelation/interruption events.

Look for independent insurers who sell travel policies. They are going to give you the best rate they can, while also guaranteeing the faithfulness of their service.

Look carefully over the plans you are interested in and see if pre-existing conditions that you have or members you are traveling with have, will be covered.

travel insurance certificate and emergency call numbers with you on your trip.

You cannot be to prepared! Bring the important documents and phone numbers you may need with you, and leave a copy at home with friends or family so they know where you are going and for how long.
