This year, 318 students and 22 faculty/ staff members participated in our retreats.

A Faculty and Staff Retreat Day was held in February.

Mass is celebrated in the Queen of All Saints Chapel each school day.

All-school Masses are celebrated on Holy Days and special occasions in the life of our community.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament occurs on various days through the school year.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available to students, faculty and staff.

Cardinal Gibbons High School promotes vocations to the priesthood and religious life: discernment groups exist for young men considering the priesthood and young women considering a vocation to consecrated life.

› A special thank you to Agnes Penny, Director of Outreach, and Crista Anders, Director of Retreats.

› The Cardinal Gibbons Pall Bearer Society was established. Students live out the Corporal Works of Mercy to “Bury the Dead” by providing pallbearer services to families in need.

› A Senior “Kairos” program and a one-day Advent Retreat were established.

› Voluntary, overnight peer leader retreat programs now exist for all grades.

› Students with adult volunteers perform daily outreach initiatives on behalf of the local community that include feeding the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless, and working with the elderly and young children.

› The first College Campus Ministry Fair was held in April. Local college campus ministers came to Gibbons to meet and speak with Catholic students who will be attending their schools in the fall.

Renewal of Cardinal Gibbons’ Accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) completed in 2010.

The SACS’ Quality Assurance Review team commended Cardinal Gibons High School for the following strengths and accomplishments.

1. Strong relationships have been established with all stakeholders through effective communications.

2. Clear expectations are articulated for student achievement.

3. All stakeholders commit to the focus on the school’s mission.

A comprehensive, curriculum revision process was completed, aligning teaching and learning standards with Diocesan and national standards and goals.

An orientation program for new faculty and staff members as well as a mentoring program for students are new in 2010.

PowerSchool deployed in 2010. This compre-hensive online data system provides students and parents information about grades, assignments and attendance.

Two new online classes and one new technology class were developed for introduction in fall, 2010.

Student Activities are an important part of the “Gibbons Spirit” that is a hallmark of our campus community. Our school’s students, faculty, staff, and parents are involved in a myriad of activities and events which are integrated with each other, support our mission, and provide a welcoming and loving atmosphere.

Cardinal Gibbons students are an integral part of every event on campus, from Open House to Back to School Night to our Ambassador Program. Our students are constantly given leadership opportunities. For instance, over 500 student volunteers helped run Freshman Welcome Day and students are a large part of the yearly Family Football Night, for which area Catholic middle school students are invited to attend a home game.

Over 700 students participated in school-sponsored athletics this year.

Students choose from 35 different interscholastic sports teams.

Cardinal Gibbons is a member of the N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).

Cardinal Gibbons won the 2010 Wachovia Cup–for the most successful high school athletics program in NC – its first in the NCHSAA 3A Division and its ninth such award in the last 10 years.

The Volleyball Team earned its tenth state championship.

The Varsity Boys Swimming and Diving team claimed its third consecutive NC High School Association state championship.

In January, Cardinal Gibbons hosted an afternoon with Mr. Charlie Adams who served as the Executive Director of the N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) for 25 years before retiring in 2010.
