What would youdo if you knewyour time on earthwas about to end?Would you goabout life as usual?Would you dosomething youve

always wanted to dolike take a tripto China? Would you get together withfamily and friends as much as possible?Would you eat gelato for every meal (OK,that may be on my list!)?

I recently read an article onNethervoice.com on Phil Keoghan, host ofThe Amazing Race who almost lost hislife when he was 19. He was involved in

an underwater diving accident where hewas trapped underwater and almost ranout of oxygen. After this experience, hepromised to live his life to the fullest. Hemade a bucket list of things he wantedto do, like climbing Mt.Everest, hand-

feeding sharks and setting a world recordfor bungee-jumping.

Phil comments, A lot of the thingsI wrote down on this early list involvedthrill-seekingand Ive since come tounderstand what was going on. I waslooking for a way to replicate that rushof coming face-to-face with death. Itseems crazy, but when you have anepisode like that, you come out feelingmore alive than ever beforeand for awhile, I almost became hooked on tryingto re-create that feeling by way of life-threatening stunts: I jumped, I dove, Istrapped myself onto speeding objects.

Eventually, I would come to realizethat there were many other ways to lead

a fuller, more interesting life, withoutconstantly risking my neck. And I alsocame to appreciate that a good List forLife should be more mature, emotionallyricher, and much more varied than thisone. But, hey, I was 19.

Since that time Phil has dedicatedhimself to worthy causes, raisingliterally millions of dollars for charitiessuch as MS. It is interesting to me thathe now focuses on reaching out toothers. His life has more meaning indoing for others than for risking his ownlife. In a way, he has already given hislife to others.

That is the message of our Christianfaith. Christ has given his life for othersand he calls on us to do the same.We dont have to have a near-deathexperience to live our lives more fully. We can, through our faith, live our livesknowing that every day is a gift andshould be used to the fullest.

We are given a new chanceevery single day. How will you useyour today?

Candlelight Service of RemembranceNovember 4 - 3pmFor some of us, Thanksgiving and Christmas are not times of celebration. The holiday season isfilled with sadness due to loss. Our hearts are heavy now that there will be one less face for the

holidays this year. It can be very difficult to celebrate the joy of Thanksgiving and Christmas inthe midst of grief. If this is where you are this year, please join us for our Candlelight Service ofRemembrance. This quiet, reflective service offers a time to acknowledge the pain of grief andlook quietly for hope in our darkness. Rev. Dr. Jerry Black will offer the message, and, PrayerMinisters will be on hand to fashion personal prayers for your specific needs if you wish. Pleasejoin us for this beautifully touching service.
