Scanning codes for local prices
Some of our young scholars went behind the scenes to tell the “Inside Story” of Duke School. They chose a topic of interest to them and considered the way that investigating that topic might impact the school community. In doing so, they discovered more about citizenship and delved into aspects of the relatively new Middle School campus. Many of them wanted to create a lasting record of spaces, people, and history that can be used by prospective or current families. This Project really was all about the process. These products integrated many technology skills, such as Audacity, Windows Movie Maker, and Photo Story, and even sharing their work using cutting edge QR codes. In telling the “Inside Story” of Duke School, they learned and practiced their oral and written communication skills, used new and meaningful media, and considered their role and impact in this community.

1. Create a digital product
2. Create a wikipage or other website address for the product.
3. The link to the individual student’s page was then used to create a QR Code. We used http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
4. Once you have the QR Code generated you right click on it and save it as an image.
5. The image file was then added to the wiki on the student’s individual page.
6. To create the map – save an image out of Google Earth and then add the codes in a program like Photoshop.
7. A program like Scanlife on a smartphonecan then be used to scan the image and have the website pull up.
