1. Star of the Month - 12 days of Christmas We’ve been celebrating some of the fantastic nominations we have had for Star of the Month over the past 12 months in our 12 Days of Christmas series. From housekeepers and nurses to administrative staff and theatre practitioners, it’s been a great way to showcase so many wonderful people working across the trust. Well done to everyone who has been featured so far (don’t miss the final stars in the lead up to Christmas day) and to all those who have received a nomination throughout the year and look out for the roll call of all the 2019 nominations on info-net at the end of the year. 2. Sussex Sharks visit the Alex There was more sporty excitement at the Alex this week with a visit from Sussex Cricket Foundation. The team gave out cuddly toys and soft cricket balls for children on the wards and in A&E on Wednesday (18 December) and were accompanied by their two mascots Sid and Sandy the Sharks! The visit marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship with Sussex Cricket Foundation and the Play Team who will be organising some cricket based activities with our young patients during their stay in hospital.

We’ve been celebrating some of the fantastic nominations we have had for Star of the Month over the past 12 months in our 12 Days of Christmas series. From housekeepers and nurses to administrative staff and theatre practitioners, it’s been a great way to showcase so many wonderful people working across the trust. 2. Sussex Sharks visit the Alex

There was more sporty excitement at the Alex this week with a visit from Sussex Cricket Foundation. The

team gave out cuddly toys and soft cricket balls for children on the wards and in A&E on Wednesday (18

December) and were accompanied by their two mascots Sid and Sandy the Sharks!

The visit marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship with Sussex Cricket Foundation and the Play

Tymal Mills who plays for Sussex Cricket said: “We’re in

a very lucky position as cricketers, and it’s one we

should never take for granted. Visiting today and giving

out some gifts was our pleasure – although I think Sid

and Sandy were the real stars!”

Senior play specialist team manager, Amy Farmer, said:

“The children and their families always look forward to visits from local teams, its lovely of them to take time out to come and visit. Regular families always ask when they are coming and it really brightens up this time of year when being in hospital.”

Look out for Amy and the rest of the Play Team on

ITV Meridian News on Tuesday (24 December) at 6pm!

4. Our BSUH HELP Service is here for you

Let’s take a moment to be mindful during this festive season of just how stressful this time of year can be

for many people. Please remember to take some time out for yourself: go for a stroll outside, or join a friend

for a cup of tea, watch a favourite film at the cinema or curled up in front of the TV.

Whatever the problem: You are not alone. There are people and services to support you in difficult times,

if you experience difficulties during this period, we can follow up with support for you in the new year. Go to

the info-net to find out more regarding staff support from our BSUH HELP Service.

Wishing you health and happiness in 2020.

5. Innovators pitch their ideas to the IT Dragons Congratulations to the brave innovators who pitched their wonderful ideas to the panel on Tuesday night at the IT Dragons’ Den event. With a variety of ideas from David Gee, Paul McEnhill, Alanna Dunkerton, George Wilkinson, Emilie Linnard, Hari Haran and Katie Miller, the Dragons had a tough decision to make.

In the end, David Gee and his Resus App was the deserved winner. David won £100 in Amazon vouchers and will have access to IT Development resources to determine how we might progress and implement his App in 2020. Well done David and thanks to all who took part!

6. Foodbank collection on Vallance ward The team on Vallance Ward decided that rather than organising a

Secret Santa this year, they would donate money towards a foodbank

collection instead. The team raised more than £100 to buy some

much-needed supplies for the Cavalry Church foodbank in Brighton,

which they delivered this week - well done team!

BSUH Charity Update

Free Christmas Day Lunch for staff

Thanks to generous donations, we are again delighted to remind staff working on

Christmas Day that you can enjoy a free lunch at Bluebells Restaurant (PRH) and

Waves Restaurant (RSCH)! Many supporters of the BSUH Charity give to thank staff for the high-quality

care they provide throughout the year, and this is one way to respect those wishes. Our Spread Christmas

Smiles Campaign helps us to thank those of you who are caring for patients when most of us are at home

with family and friends.

If you’re at work on Christmas Day, thank you and to receive your free lunch, please present with your own

staff ID badge to Bluebells or Waves between 12.00 – 14.00. Our thanks to our wonderful catering team for

their help and hard work and a Merry Christmas to all!
