Islam is the name of religion brought by all messengers of Allah from Prophet Adam to Prophet
Muhammad (s.a.w) – peace upon them.
Islam is also known as “The Way of Life” because Islam is a complete way of life that governs all facets of life: moral, spiritual, social, political, economical,
intellectual, etc.
In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.

In order to enter into the fold of Islam i.e. to be Muslim, one has to know, believe, accept totally and sincerely apply the five basic principles (Pillars) on which Islam is based: Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah - Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said:
Islam is based on the following FIVE PILLARS (PRINCIPLES)
•
27/11/2011 GROUP 4: PPG TESL 4 ( SECTION 71 ) 25
This Pillar is believing and saying :
“There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
•This declaration of faith is called the 'Shahadah', a simple formula that all the faithful pronounce.
•The significance of this declaration is the belief that the only purpose of life is to serve and obey Allah, and this is achieved through the teachings and practices of the Beloved Prophet, Muhammad (s.a.w)
27/11/2011 GROUP 4: PPG TESL 4 ( SECTION 71 ) 26
Solah is the five daily prayers which need to be offered at set times during the day.
Before offering Salah Muslims need to prepare themselves by making sure they are clean. They do this by carrying out Wudu (ablution), which is washing themselves.
All Muslims stand upright on their prayer mats facing Ka’bah in Saudi Arabia.
Muslims pray to remember Allah and to be close to Allah.

• Sawm means fasting during the month of Ramadan every year.
• Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Fasting is not eating and drinking during the day while the sun shines. Muslims fast to gain Allah’s favour
and to keep themselves away from greed and selfishness.
• At the end of Ramadan Muslims all around the world celebrate the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, a day of joy and thanksgiving to Allah. On this day Muslims offer special
prayers and thank Allah for His blessings and mercy.
O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun.

• Hajj is a visit to the Ka’bah, the house of Allah in Makkah by those Muslims who can afford the trip and are physically fit.
• Hajj is performed during the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar.
• The Muslim community from all over the world go there every year. A Muslim tries to make the pilgrimage at least once in their life time.
During Hajj Muslims celebrate the festival Eid-ul-Adha.
And perform properly (i.e. all the ceremonies according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)), the Hajj and Umrah (i.e. the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allah. (Quran: 2/196)

BENEFITS OF TAQWA
27/11/2011 GROUP 4: PPG TESL 4 ( SECTION 71 ) 35
QURANIC VERSES• Allah said in surat An-Nahil, (verse 128), what
may be translated as, "For Allah is with those who have taqwa and those who do good“
• Taqwa is a reason for sustenance and removing hardships.
• Allah said in surat At-Talaq (verse 2 & 3), what may be translated as, "Whoever has
taqwa, He Allah prepares a way out for him. And He provides for him from sources he
would never expect.
27/11/2011 GROUP 4: PPG TESL 4 ( SECTION 71 ) 36
• Taqwa also includes patience, forgiveness, acceptance (reda), generosity and treating people with love.
• It is achieved by following Allah’s guidance, staying on the Sirat al-Mustaqeem (the Straight Path), worshiping Allah, and cultivating an awareness of Allah as our Creator, Sustainer and Lord.
• A basic practice that helps to build taqwa is
reciting the Quran with contemplation of its
meaning and message.

• Taqwa of a believer should illuminate through all facets of his/her life, just like a bright light would shine through all openings of an empty
house in an empty field in a dark night.
• Taqwa, when coupled with Imaan (faith), makes a well-rounded believer.
• Taqwa goes hand in hand with Imaan.

• Those who believe in Allah’s Revelations and Al-Akhira [2:4] is the one who has
Taqwa known as a muttaqi.
• Taqwa will be a lifelong journey. Men and women should always have something to strive for in their life.

Where Would I Be Without The Quran?
( Poem )
Where would I be without the Quran?Would I be guided?Would I be strong?
Would I be protected from evil and wrong?Would I hear my Creator's Words?
...Would I hear Him describe the birds?Would I know the stories of the old?Would I realise their worth in gold?
Where would I be without the Quran?Would I find safety when others fear?Would I find peace whilst sitting here?
Would I be happy when others are sad?Would I be protected from going mad?
Would I be patient when things get tough?Would I be firm when the seas are rough?
Where would I be without the Quran?Would I have examples to follow?
Would I rejoice when others are in sorrow?Would I have fear of the Burning Fire?Would I be at the bottom of the sea,
And have hope, that one day, my Lord will release me?

A POEM : “ BE TOLERANCE ”
IN GENEROUSITY AND HELPING OTHERS, BE LIKE THE RIVER,IN COMPASSION AND GRACE, BE LIKE THE SUN,
IN CONCEALING OTHER’S FAULT, BE LIKE THE NIGHT,IN MODESTY AND HUMILITY, BE LIKE THE EARTH,
IN TOLERANCE, BE LIKE THE SEA,EITHER APPEAR AS YOU ARE, OR BE AS YOU APPEAR ANGER AND FURY,
BE LIKE THE DEAD!
CONCLUSION• Make our living to the upmost by worshipping ALLAH and the prophets,
cherish every single days and our breath that we have by making ourselves
achieve the degree of the knowledge of Iman, Taqwa and Ihsan in Islam.
