1. SCOPEThis standard covers concrete lids for use on the SUB distribution system.

2. REFERENCE STANDARDSThe vault lids supplied shall be manufactured and tested according to the latest editions, revisions, and amendments in the applicable standards of the industry, especially AASHTO-H20 minimum traffic bearing specifications.

3. CONSTRUCTION 3.1. Concrete

3.1.1. Strength

Concrete shall have a minimum compression strength of 3000 psi at five days.

3.1.2. Mechanically Vibrated

Concrete shall be mechanically vibrated to maximum subsistence without segregation.

3.1.3. Cured

Concrete shall be properly cured before moving.

3.1.4. Finish

Concrete shall have a light broom, sidewalk-acceptable finish. 3.2. Reinforcement

3.2.1. Design

All reinforcement necessary shall be provided to obtain AASHTO-H20 minimum traffic bearing specifications. Refer to drawings for additional load requirements.

3.2.2. Quality

Re-bar or wire mesh shall conform to the latest ASTM specifications and be free of scale, oil, and defects.

3.3. Lifting Inserts

A Burke Rapid lift 2-ton insert, centered on the lid by weight, shall be provided capable of supporting the lid’s weight.

3.4. Marking

Each lid shall be stamped or stenciled with the weight on the long side. 3.5. Diamond Plate Doors

3.5.1. Design

All diamond plate doors shall meet AASHTO-H20 minimum traffic bearing specification.

3.5.2. Finish

Diamond plate doors and all associated hardware shall be hot dipped galvanized.

3.5.3. Hinges

Door(s) shall be hinged and provide a flush fit with concrete when closed and a 180° opening radius.

3.5.4. Spring Assist

Door(s) shall be spring assisted.

3.5.5. Locking Bolt and Handle

Door(s) shall be provided with a 3/8” recessed stainless steel pentahead locking bolt and a recessed lift handle.

3.5.6. Labeling

Diamond plate doors shall have welded lettering centered on the doors that spell ELECTRIC. Lettering shall be a minimum of 2” and a maximum of 3” in height.

4. SUB ACCEPTANCEUpon receipt, all concrete lids will be inspected and checked for adherence to SUB standards. Rejected lids will be returned at the supplier’s expense.

5. WARRANTYThe vendor warrants that the concrete lids furnished are free from defects in material and workmanship and agrees to repair or replace any concrete lid that is unusable for operation or fails in operation during normal and proper use. This warranty shall be for a period of 12 months from date of installation or 18 months from date of acceptance, whichever is earlier.
