When I was about 8 years old growing up in West Covina, I started playing baseball with a bunch of my friends on a sandlot about six blocks from our home. I fell in love with the game and became a good player (Little League, Babe Ruth, Varsity in High School), but in the process somewhere I had to learn about the actual rules of baseball. My uncle started taking me to baseball games about the time I was 12. We’d drive over to Dodger Stadium and the first thing I had to learn was about all the data that surrounds the game. The ERA, AVG, number of bases stolen, etc. made the game a lot more exciting and it also made me a better player. Log operations is similar to baseball statistics, it is the intersection of the “game” and the people who are driving the data.
My idea is to see my internship with the Log Operations Team as an opportunity to understand the big and small data that are increasingly driving television production. I will prove myself capable of mastering the fundamentals of broadcasting by drawing on my film and production experience. Steven Spielberg says that the future of the industry is not just the art, but also the know-how. The way I look at the opportunity to work on the Log Operations Team is that log operations is more than just statistical in the same sense that a batting average might be, it is about the know-how about the actors, title, timing, and distribution, all driving the data that I need to learn now.
My name is Ramsey Blaine. Visual storytelling has always been a passion of mine. Nothing gives me more joy than brainstorming with a bunch of creative minds to transform footage from its raw state into a work of art at its completion. After graduating from Columbia College Chicago this past Spring with a BFA in Post-Production, I am spending my time as an Umpire for the California Baseball Umpire Association while continuing to challenge myself to work on different genres and director’s visions. Prior to graduation I was a Freelance Runner at Beast Editorial for about a year.
