The PPLL-5500 MMOO and PPMM-225500 families represent thedifferent solutions that TTeeaamm AArrtteecchhee offers for motorprotection. Both families are made up by numericalmultifunction protection relays.

The PPLL-5500 MMOO is TTeeaamm AArrtteecchhee's most economicalrange of relays used for the motor protection, controland measurement.

Besides motor protection functions it also hasmeasurements and data acquisition functions, whichgive additional information about events and faults thatcan happen in the utility.

Optionally it has a rear communications port.

The PPMM-225500 is TTeeaamm AArrtteecchhee's most complete range ofrelays used for the motor protection, control andmeasurement.

It has more motor protection functions than PPLL-5500 MMOO,so it is more adequate for important motors protection.

Besides protection functions, it has a wide range ofcharacteristics such as: measurement, communications, oscillography,... This allow Protectionengineers to analize the occured events.

Optionally it can have 1 or 2 rear communications ports.

The rear ports that both PPLL-5500 MMOO and PPMM-225500 unitscan have allow:

• The relays to be used as a unit integrated in aProtection and Control system.

• Locally or remotely accesing the status, historicaldata records and settings of the relay.

The timed overcurrent, protects the motor againstoverloads which cause motor heatings and theinstantaneous overcurrent, set above the pickupcurrent, protects the motor against short circuits.

PPhhaassee uunnbbaallaannccee aanndd ooppeenn pphhaassee pprrootteeccttiioonn((4466//4466FFAA))

The phase unbalance causes a stator currentincrease and a rotor heating increase. Thesesituations are detected by current unbalance andopen phase protections.

UUnnddeerrccuurrrreenntt pprrootteeccttiioonn ((3377))

The undercurrent unit, protects the motor againstload loss.

LLoocckkeedd rroottoorr pprrootteeccttiioonn ((5511RRBB))

The rotor mechanical lockout, cause currents similarto the pickup current, which moreover, remainsduring the lokout, this produces severe heatings inthe motor.

The locked rotor unit protects the motor against thissituation, comparing the set current with themeasured average current. If the measured currentis higher, the unit trips after the programmed timehas elapsed.

TThheerrmmaall iimmaaggee pprrootteeccttiioonn ((4499))

The thermal image protection protects the motoragainst thermal overloads. It calculates thetemperature depending on the present and recentmotor loads, and according to CEI 255-8-17standard.

RRTTDD ttrreeaattmmeenntt ((4499 RRTTDD))

The PM250 relay can have RTD inputs (dependingon model). The RTDs are placed near the activeparts of the motor and they give direct temperaturemeasurement. This function gives high temperaturealarm, low temperature alarm and RTD trip.

UUnnddeerrvvoollttaaggee pprrootteeccttiioonn ((2277))

Protects the motor against overloads and losses ofexcitation, this would cause the motor stop.

FFrreeqquueennccyy pprrootteeccttiioonn ((8811MM//mm))

The frequency variation causes changes in themotor turning speed. The maximum and minimumfrequency protection protects against these regimevariations.

SSttaarrttss ppeerr hhoouurr ((6666))

A motor can be damaged if an excessive number ofstarts happen during a time interval. The protectionagainst successive starts protects the motor againstthis situation. If the number of starts during aprogrammed time is higher than a programmednumber, more starts won´t be allowed during aprogrammed time.

PPrrootteeccttiioonn aaggaaiinnsstt lloonngg ssttaarrttss ((4488))

An excessively long start causes motor heatings. The long start protection acts causing a trip if thestarting period is higher than the programmed time.

The unit stores the last 200 events in its non-volatilememory with the following data: date and time ofoccurrence, code description of event and the levelof electrical parameters when the event happened.

FFaauullttss rreeccoorrdd

The last 9 faults are stored in non-volatile memory, with the following data: date and time of pickup, start and end of fault, the prefault and fault electricalparameters, duration, type of fault and unitsengaged.

The user can configure up to 6 logic signals whichcan be assigned to output relays and LEDs.

TTEEAAMM AARRTTEECCHHEE uses the SSIIPPCCOONNTTMM

PPrrootteeccttiioonnsssoftware, developed for PCs running under WWIINN-DDOOWWSS. This program allows clear, simple dialoguewith the unit for access to the information stored in itfor necessary settings.

All configurations accesses are password protected toprevent tampering by unauthorised personnel.

The outstanding features of the SSIIPPCCOONNTTHH

Protectionssoftware include the following:

✓ Automatic detection of the unit which it is in dialoguewith.

✓ Unit status display via status screens.

✓ Presentation and modification of settings

✓ Filling and presentation of all information stored inthe relay: events, faults, historical data, oscilloscopereadings, etc.

SSIIPPCCOONNTTHH

PPrrootteeccttiioonnss software is compatible with thesoftware used in TTeeaamm AArrtteecchhee's integrated pro-tection and control systems, and can be incor-porated into them as just one more function module.
