1 Corinthians 4:1 We Can Miss Our Primary MissionDave Stone tells that, Several years ago, the London Transit Authority had a problem. Buses were going right past passengers who were waiting at designated places to be picked up. They were at the bus stops, and the buses were sailing right past them. The London Transit Authority released a statement to explain their actions. The statement said it was impossible for them to maintain schedules if they always had to stop and pick up passengers.

1 Corinthians 4:9-13Not Like Supposed Modern ApostlesNAU 1 Corinthians 4:9 For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor. 11 To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are roughly treated, and are homeless; 12 and we toil, working with our own hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure; 13 when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.

1 Corinthians 4:9-13

1 Corinthians 4:14Fatherly DisciplineNAU 1 Corinthians 4:14 I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. 15 For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I became your father [Born again] through the gospel.NAU 1 Thessalonians 2:11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, 12 so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

1 Corinthians 4:16, Imitate Me?NAU 1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me.This is the goal all Christians. To become so Christlike in your walk that you could say imitate me to a new believer. Is there anything in your walk with the Lord that you would not want a new believer to imitate? Now is the time to get rid of it.

1 Corinthians 4:17, Imitate MeNAU 1 Corinthians 4:17 For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.Would you feel comfortable sending a messenger to another church to remind them of your behavior?Paul is my hero!

1 Corinthians 4:18-21NAU 1 Corinthians 4:18 Now some have become arrogant [to puff or blow up], as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant [to puff or blow up], but their power. 20 For the kingdom of God does not consist in words, but in power. 21 What do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

So, in conclusion;John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

NAU 1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?1 Corinthians 5:12, Joshua 20:6 1 Corinthians 4:5NAU Joshua 20:6 'He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the one who is high priest in those days. Then the manslayer shall return to his own city and to his own house, to the city from which he fled."NAU 1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God.

1Corinthians 4:5Bible scholars have debated for years about the rewards and judgment that will transpire at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2Corinthians 5:10; 1Corinthians 3:12-15). Since we know that our sins have been cast "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12) and that we can do nothing on our own, apart from Christ working in us (John 15:5), it is natural to question the nature of this divine, and very real, judgment. We believe there is one thing that God asks of Believers that could possibly be the basis for this judgment. It is the one thing He has always asked. It is where many of the Israelites failed and where many Christians still struggle. It is simply a question of faith.Everything we do, think, say or feel reflects whether or not we truly believe God and what He says in His Word.We tend to think most verses about believing have to do with salvation. But there is a huge emphasis all through the Bible about God wanting people to simply believe Himto take Him at His Word in all things (have faith).. . . whatever is not from faith is sin.Romans 14:23bBut to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness ...Romans 4:5Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith.Habakkuk 2:4And Jesus answered saying to them, "Have faith in God."Mark 11:22for we walk by faith, not by sight2Corinthians 5:7I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.Galatians 2:20and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faithPhilippians 3:9But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe. (have faith)"Mark 5:36But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,John 1:12The Bible also says that faith is"the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."(Hebrews 11:1)So it seem plausible that God could judge everything we do in light of whether we did it out of faithtrust, assurance, conviction, beliefin Him. That would explain why we could actually do the right thing for the wrong reason or do the wrong thing for the right reason:Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God.1Corinthians 4:5 And the Bible mentions five rewards Believers can receive by faith:Martyred for your faith (James 1:12)Maturity in your faith (1Corinthians 9:24-27)Having faith God will use your testimony (1Thessalonians 2:19-20)Having faith Jesus will return to the earth (2Timothy 4:5-8)Having faith that shepherding others is feeding His sheep (1Peter 5:2-4)(Sorry the "mini" study was so long; we got a little carried away!)

1 Corinthians 4:5I Search The Heart, GotQuestions.orgGotQuestions.orgJeremiah 17:10 "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.Evidence Of SalvationFriday, January 17th, 2014SalvationQ.The Bible says that if we are saved then we will show good works. So what are good works? Is it not sinning, or is it helping an old lady across the road? And if it is helping an old lady across the road well, Im going to say that unsaved people do that!!A.The only work that God requires of us is to believe in the One He sent, Jesus (John 6:28-29). But that belief can produce changes in our behavior, too. We can become more conscious of our sinfulness and often perform more acts of kindness toward others than we did before.Of course many unbelievers are also kind to others. The difference is believers usually do this out of gratitude to the Lord for saving them, but an unbelievers kindness will be motivated differently, perhaps out of a need to be liked, or to feel good about themselves. So while both may do the same thing, the motives that prompt them are different. We want to please the Lord. Unbelievers want to please themselves. This is why the Lord said not to judge anyone, but to leave that up to Him because Hes the only one who can judge us on the basis of our motives.1 Cor. 4:5says He will bring to light what is hidden darkness and expose the motives of mens hearts. He also encouraged us to perform our acts of kindness in secret because He knows how good it makes us feel to us to receive credit from others for what we do, even though its only temporary. He said those things we do in secret are the ones our father in Heaven will reward us for (Matt. 6:3-4) and His rewards last forever.

1 Corinthians 4:5, Judge RighteouslyQuestion: "What does the Bible mean that we are not to judge others?"Answer: Jesus command not to judge others could be the most widely quoted of His sayings, even though it is almost invariably quoted in complete disregard of its context. Here is Jesus statement: Do not judge, or you too will be judged (Matthew 7:1). Many people use this verse in an attempt to silence their critics, interpreting Jesus meaning as You dont have the right tell me Im wrong. Taken in isolation, Jesus command Do not judge does indeed seem to preclude all negative assessments. However, there is much more to the passage than those three words. The Bibles command that we not judge others does not mean we cannot show discernment. Immediately after Jesus says, Do not judge, He says, Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs (Matthew 7:6). A little later in the same sermon, He says, Watch out for false prophets. . . . By their fruit you will recognize them (verses 1516). How are we to discern who are the dogs and pigs and false prophets unless we have the ability to make a judgment call on doctrines and deeds? Jesus is giving us permission to tell right from wrong. Also, the Bibles command that we not judge others does not mean all actions are equally moral or that truth is relative. The Bible clearly teaches that truth is objective, eternal, and inseparable from Gods character. Anything that contradicts the truth is a liebut, of course, to call something a lie is to pass judgment. To call adultery or murder a sin is to likewise to pass judgmentbut its also to agree with God. When Jesus said not to judge others, He did not mean that no one can identify sin for what it is, based on Gods definition of sin.And the Bibles command that we not judge others does not mean there should be no mechanism for dealing with sin. The Bible has a whole book entitled Judges. The judges in the Old Testament were raised up by God Himself (Judges 2:18). The modern judicial system, including its judges, is a necessary part of society. In saying, Do not judge, Jesus was not saying, Anything goes.Elsewhere, Jesus gives a direct command to judge: Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly (John 7:24). Here we have a clue as to the right type of judgment versus the wrong type. Taking this verse and some others, we can put together a description of the sinful type of judgment:

Superficial judgment is wrong. Passing judgment on someone based solely on appearances is sinful (John 7:24). It is foolish to jump to conclusions before investigating the facts (Proverbs 18:13). Simon the Pharisee passed judgment on a woman based on her appearance and reputation, but he could not see that the woman had been forgiven; Simon thus drew Jesus rebuke for his unrighteous judgment (Luke 7:3650).

Hypocritical judgment is wrong. Jesus command not to judge others in Matthew 7:1 is preceded by comparisons to hypocrites (Matthew 6:2, 5, 16) and followed by a warning against hypocrisy (Matthew 7:35). When we point out the sin of others while we ourselves commit the same sin, we condemn ourselves (Romans 2:1).

Harsh, unforgiving judgment is wrong. We are always to be gentle toward everyone (Titus 3:2). It is the merciful who will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7), and, as Jesus warned, In the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (Matthew 7:2).

Self-righteous judgment is wrong. We are called to humility, and God opposes the proud (James 4:6). The Pharisee in Jesus parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector was confident in his own righteousness and from that proud position judged the publican; however, God sees the heart and refused to forgive the Pharisees sin (Luke 18:914).

Untrue judgment is wrong. The Bible clearly forbids bearing false witness (Proverbs 19:5). Slander no one (Titus 3:2).

Christians are often accused of judging or intolerance when they speak out against sin. But opposing sin is not wrong. Holding aloft the standard of righteousness naturally defines unrighteousness and draws the slings and arrows of those who choose sin over godliness. John the Baptist incurred the ire of Herodias when he spoke out against her adultery with Herod (Mark 6:1819). She eventually silenced John, but she could not silence the truth (Isaiah 40:8).

Believers are warned against judging others unfairly or unrighteously, but Jesus commends right judgment (John 7:24, ESV). We are to be discerning (Colossians 1:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). We are to preach the whole counsel of God, including the Bibles teaching on sin (Acts 20:27; 2 Timothy 4:2). We are to gently confront erring brothers or sisters in Christ (Galatians 6:1). We are to practice church discipline (Matthew 18:1517). We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

1Corinthians 4:5, Judging Others Today is February 14, 2013Verse of the Day -- Colossians 2:16. . . let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink.THOUGHT FOR THE DAYThe Bible has a lot to say about judging others.MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAYThe Bible warns us not to judge others in issues of outward appearances such as food or drink. You can't say it is wrong to eat pork or meat or to drink wine because spirituality is an issue of our heart, not of our stomach.Jesus said, ". . . Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man." Matthew 15:16-18 We should be careful whom we judge even if they are wrong:. . . do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts.1Corinthians 4:5 And it is certainly a bit prideful for someone to point fingers at someone else:Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?Luke 6:41 It's also worth noting that those who DO spend the effort judging others are in for a harsher judgment:. . . by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2 Always remember that we are saved by GRACE. Allow God to work in the lives of others on His schedule, not yours!Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
