CSCM Objectives

• Objectives of CSCM tests- Concerned circuits: RB, RQD and RQF- Determine the max. safe energy of LHC (4 - 5 TeV)

• Other limitations (LHC non conformities)- RQX.R1- RB.A78 (B30R7)- Other limitations ? (to be defined)

• Assumptions- Time constants of the EE systems

- 4 TeV: RB = 51 s, RQ = 10 s

- 4.5 TeV: RB = 68 s, RQ = 15 s

- 5 TeV: RB = 68 s, RQ = 15 s

- No defect on the diode path

CSCM Tests

• CSCM current cycle (see Arjan presentation)- Heat the defect to identify it (runaway)

CSCM Tests

• Power Converters- Use the same power converters for the 3 circuits (RB)- Voltage budget (RB):

- 20K- Vdiode_rb # 265 V and Vdiode_rq # 90 V (Vdiode # 1.7 V @ 20 K)- Vdc_cable # 10 V @ 6 kA- Vbusbar_rb # 15 V @ 6 kA and Vbusbar_rq # 30 V @ 6 kA
