Close Up: History and Mission
• Non-profit and non-partisan civic education organization founded in 1971.
• Mission is to inform, inspire, and empower students to become more active citizens.
• Over 800,000 student and teacher alums.
• We welcome 16,000 students and teachers to DC each year.

• Night monitors at each hotel throughout the night.• Emergency Hotline Number: 888.706.3450• Program Instructors have 140+ hours of training,
certified in CPR/First Aid, undergone criminal background checks, with students at all times when exploring sites.
• Detailed schedule has all pertinent numbers, addresses, etc

Price and What’s Included• Total student price is $1687, which includes…
– Airfare from New Orleans (excluding baggage fees)– Academic materials and instruction– Hotel accommodations– Three meals per day starting with dinner on Sunday, ending with
lunch on Thursday.– All in-town DC and Philadelphia transportation– 24-hour supervision including night monitors– All admission fees– Tips/Gratuities– Secondary medical coverage and access to Georgetown
University Medical Center– Close Up souvenir backpack, water bottle, and group photo
• Travel insurance is optional but STRONGLY encouraged

Important Dates/Deadlines• $400 deposit is due to Ms. Kliebert between now and
December 19. Checks should be made payable to CloseUp. • Ms. Kliebert will send deposit checks to CloseUp once she
has collected ten.• Final payment due no later than April 16, 2015• Cancellations after April 16 result in a 100% cancellation
penalty.• You will need to get your participant ID and password from
Ms. Kliebert to enroll at CloseUp.org.• Limited financial aid based on financial need (free/reduced
lunch) is available.• Close Up is a 501(c)(3) organization…donations can be tax-
deductible.
