This tactic clearly worked and Druids found it difficult to break the home side down. However Druids did manage 2 goals in the first half through Steve Blenkinsop but failed to add to these in spite of having the bulk of play. The second half was much the same as the first and Druids did not add to the score until the final 10 minutes when first Gavin Cadwallader headed home then Ryan Jones added another from the penalty spot in the final minute. Although not the best performance of late the result was enough to put Druids top of the table after the first weekend. HUWS GRAY ALLIANCE RESULTS

NEW SEASON EDITORIAL

Welcome to the first Newsletter of the 2013-14 season. A lot is expected of Druids this season

following the runners up place last season, however a lot of teams have strengthened their

squads this season so it will not be an easy task to win the league. Huw Griffiths has brought in no

fewer than 8 new faces including loan signings Ryan Jones & Scott Quigley from The New Saints.

Several of last season’s squad have left the club including club captain George Hughes, Warren

Duckett and Max Peate. The captain’s arm band this season will be worn by Gareth Edwards.

Having beaten 3 Welsh Premier teams & scored no fewer than 38 goals in 9 games in pre-season

with only 1 defeat, we will be expected to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

For the first league game of the season, Druids made the long trip to Powys to face Rhayader

Town without captain Gareth Edwards and John Leonard. Druids were further frustrated when

International clearance failed to come through for Jamie Haynes. From the kick off Rhayader’s

game plan was quite obvious, get everybody behind the ball and stifle Druids attacks. This tactic

clearly worked and Druids found it difficult to break the home side down. However Druids did

manage 2 goals in the first half through Steve Blenkinsop but failed to add to these in spite of having

the bulk of play. The second half was much the same as the first and Druids did not add to the score

until the final 10 minutes when first Gavin Cadwallader headed home then Ryan Jones added

another from the penalty spot in the final minute. Although not the best performance of late the

result was enough to put Druids top of the table after the first weekend.

DRUIDS RES 5 CHESTER CITY Y 4

In a very entertaining game, Druids beat Chester

City Youth by the odd goal in 9. Druids went in

front after 7 minutes through Adam Mills but then

conceded 3 to go behind 3-1. Druids hit back

through Nick Hughes and Chad Bradley right on

the stroke of half time to level the score at the

break. Chester again went in front in the second

half following a goalkeeping error but Druids

again came from behind with 2 excellent strikes

from Callum Smith on 67 minutes and Alex S

Williams on 71 minutes. Both teams created

further chances but there was no more scoring as

Druids ran out 5-4 winners to boost their

confidence ahead of the season opener on Friday

16th August against Buckley Town at the Rock.

Kick Off is at 7.00 o’clock.

CEFN DRUIDS 4 AIRBUS 2

In their final pre-season warm up game Druids

took on last season’s Welsh Premier runners-up,

Airbus. Having already beaten 2 Welsh Premier

sides this season Druids were hoping to add

Airbus to the list and this they did, winning by 4

goals to 2. Druids were 3 up at the break

through Scott Quigley (2) and Gavin

Cadwallader before Airbus pulled a goal back in

the second half. A Jamie Haynes strike restored

the 3 goal cushion and although Airbus replied

almost immediately, it only proved to be a con-

solation as Druids held on to win by 4 goals to 2.

CEFN DRUIDS ACADEMY

The academy has been busy throughout the

closed season, putting on training sessions over

the summer months. These have been taking

place at the MUGA and have been well attended

as can be seen from the pictures on this page.

The Academy has sent one it’s lead coaches to

Manchester City Academy in a visit organised by

the Welsh Football Trust. This gives North Wales

based Academies a unique opportunity to study

player/coach development and coach mentoring at

an elite English Premier League club. The visit is

over a two day period and is part of the on going

development of Cefn Druids Football Club.

The Academy has also set up a partnership with Ysgol y

Grango which means that in return for winter training

facilities, coaches Josh Roberts and Richard Griffiths will

be coaching at the school from September. Ruabon

School & several local primary schools have also taken

up the offer of free coaching as part of promoting the

Academy & the club.

Part of the club’s community partnership started last week

also with coaches Josh & Richard coaching at

Queensway Sports Centre on Friday & Saturday evening

in a venture set up in conjunction with North Wales Police

& the Welsh Football Trust.

win at League Champions Rhyl, but lose twice to relegated Caernarfon Town. We also lost 6 times

by a 1-0 scoreline and had the second worst goals against in the league (74). In the Welsh Cup

we went out in the 4th round 2-1 at Airbus and in the League Cup we lost out on goal difference to

Newtown in the group stages. The cup was won by TNS who beat Bangor City 2-0 in the final.
