BACKGROUND

The RailTnk1.ttf lettering font

This is a free font and cannot be sold or be part of a commercial product.

This font was created using references from the Internet. It is based on various sources related to Google searches.

Most of the reference materials are from RailRoad Picture Archives http://www.rrpicturearchives.net and TankCarHomepage http://tankcarhomepage.railfan.net/p16.htm

It is intended that this font be used along with the glyphs that are part of RailTnk2 (also available here atHTTP://railsimstuff.com)

This font update (V2.1) is being made to resolve some issues with this somewhat older font. It was previously updated in2011 and in the mean time, some cosmetic issues were uncovered with some of the glyphs. One example is the Saftey-Kleen logo which was too tall for some programs. It has been lowered a bit but might still cause issues.

This font is an artistic attempt to recreate lettering, corporate logos and symbols from photographs,public trademark information (patent office) and from readily available graphical artwork. In mostcases, this artwork is created as a historical preservation for use within a simulator application only.Also, they may not be perfect renderings.

DisclaimerThis ttf font is a best effort attempt at recreating a vector based image suite related to tankcars. Some variances exist inreal life and therefore there may be some discrepancies between what is supplied here and actual prototype references.

Font Usage

In many cases, the glyphs in this font are very large, which offsets the size of small items somewhat. Inmost cases, the FONT SIZE settings will need to be 28 or higher to get a workable size for the letteringand symbols.

InstallationThe file is distributed as part of a ZIP file that includes this document as well as the font itself and other relateddocumentation.

The files need to be UNZIPPED from the distribution file into a temporary work area, like C:\TEMP. (I’ll assume that youused c:\temp from here on…)

You can often just double-click the TTF file and the system will provide an install option.

Now you can install the font from the Windows CONTROL PANEL.

Your system may be different, but for Windows 7, you would select START → Settings → Control Panel → FONTS → FILE[pull down] → INSTALL NEW FONT

From here you would select your new file C:\temp\RailTnk1.ttf

That’s it, the font is installed.

As with all other TTF fonts on your system, the RailTnk1.ttf file enclosed within the ZIP file belongs in the FONTS folder ofyour windows operating system. This is the only way this file would be useful.

Additional NotesIt may be noticed that some designs are older than current corporate images. The goal of this font is to preserve oldershapes versus maintain up to date images.

Cargill, for example, have changed corporate imaging multiple times but many references for rail items still reflect olderstyle’s. In other cases, such as with ADM, both older and newer styles are made available. This reflects the availability ofreference materials.
