› Phillip II sent The Spanish Armada to England for three reasons.

To get revenge for the sponsoring of pirates’ raids on Spanish ships

England was a protestant nation. Phillip wanted to bring them back into the church.

To maintain Spain’s status as the dominant power in Europe.

› Spain’s bigger ships couldn’t navigate well in the narrow English channel

› The armada got caught in a bad storm on the way back to Spain. The storm almost destroyed all of the remaining ships.
