A major proportion of the labour force in the Shire is aged between 15 and 39 years (53.5%), which is

slightly more than that in the Australian structure (52.5%)

The 15 to 24 year age group in the Shire represents 29% of the total workforce, 3% higher than the

Australian workforce.

OF THE 263 YOUTHS SURVEYED:

• 74% think Work for the Dole is a bad idea

• 88% think the Job Network is confusing

• 94% have used Centrelink Touch Screens in the past 2 weeks

• 0% have approached employers direct

•0% have approached private employment agencies

• 59% state that they are in poor health because they are unemployed

• 82% have visited the doctor’s at least once a fortnight

• 38% have never had a job

• 46% would like to be kept informed on the Survey’s progress
