Basic Chiropractic
Basic chiropractic is the manipulation of the position
of the bones of the spine and appendicular skeleton.
Show here is low back side posture repositioning and
neck vertebrae repositioning. The movement of bones
of the body decompresses the nerves of the body and
allows for reduced pain, and improved function of the
muscles organs or functions at the end of the nerve.
Basically, bones out of place compress nerves and
cause pain. Whatever is at the end of the compressed
nerve doesn’t work right. Bones repositioned to
normal position, decompresses nerves, reduces pain
and allow for whatever is at the end of the nerve to
work properly.
Basic chiropractic is performed by almost all trained
chiropractors. It is the mechanical correction of bones
position without addressing the control centers of the
nervous system to modify the body. This modality of
treatment works well for most condition of
mechanical injury or derangement.

Typical conditions treated with basic chiropractic are:
Wellness care
Neck pain
Low back pain
Shoulder pain
Headache
Strain and sprain injuries
Your basic chiropractic visit begins with a review of
health history and physical examination. Examination
with reveal most likely diagnosis and determine
whether additional testing or imaging is needed. If no
further examination is required your will receive a
basic chiropractic adjustment to bones which are
misaligned or compressing nerves.
Contact us to schedule your initial visit. First
examination generally takes between 15-20 minutes.

Chiropractic Neurology
Chiropractic Board Certified Neurologists are
chiropractors who have continued with advanced post
graduate training and testing to be able to provide all
the standard chiropractic services and additional
treatments utilizing receptor based therapies.
Receptor based therapists utilize brain and nervous
system stimulation to modify and augment basic
chiropractic treatments. Currently there are less than
400 Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologists in the
United States.
This is the above down approach to neuromuscular
skeletal disorders where by the brain modifies the
tone, amplitude, and gain of the muscles and their
associated reflexes.
Chiropractic Neurology is a different approach to body
modification utilizing the power of the nervous system
to alter function in the body.
Chiropractic neurologists, medical neurologists and
neurosurgeons differ greatly in their methods of
treatment.
The medical neurologist will prescribe medications or
injections. The neurosurgeon uses surgery to correct a
condition. The chiropractic neurologist uses
medication free and non-surgical treatment methods.

Many conditions of the brain and nervous system do
not respond well to aggressive interventions such as
drug therapy or surgery. Additionally, the drug
therapies used by medical neurologists, and the
surgical interventions of the neurosurgeon often carry
increased risks for serious complications or dangerous
side effects.
In addition to physical examination methods,
chiropractic neurologists may use:
MRI – magnetic resonance imaging
CT – computerized tomography
X-ray
Ultrasound Sonograms
Bloodwork Analysis
NCS – Nerve conduction studies
Other neurology assessments such as VNG,
SSEP etc

Chiropractic neurology treatment methods are safe,
effective and can include a wide variety of modalities
such as:
Chiropractic adjustments by hand or by
instrument to the spine and/or extremities
Eye exercises
Balance and coordination activities
Cognitive exercises and activities
Sensory training that may include light, sound,
smell, or touch
Physical exercises
Breathing exercises
Nutritional modification
And many others…
The distinguishing factor is the paradigm, or approach
that a chiropractic neurologist uses toward diagnosis
and treatment. In addition to evaluating for
pathologies, a chiropractic neurologist evaluates for
subtle changes in the function of the nervous system
and how these changes influence the musculoskeletal
presentation of the body. It is this expertise in
detecting subtle changes in function that sets a
chiropractic neurologist apart from other
chiropractors and specialists.

As in all medical specialties, one must complete
undergraduate work and earn a professional degree
before entering into specialty training. Upon
completion of undergraduate training, the
chiropractic neurology student must then attend a
college of chiropractic. There he must complete a
required minimum of 4,200 hours of combined
classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience.
After earning the doctorate degree and passing
rigorous state and national boards, the student must
attend a “program of instruction that is approved by
the continuing education committee of the
Commission for the Accreditation of Graduate
Education in Neurology of a minimum of 300 credit
hours”. Dr. Darner attended the prestigious Carrick
Institute for Graduate Studies, and The International
Association of Functional Neurology and
Rehabilitation for his post graduate neurology
training.
The student must then pass stringent written and oral
examinations given by the American Chiropractic
Neurology Board – ACNB.org before receiving board
certification in chiropractic neurology. Chiropractic
neurologists are required to maintain their level of
expertise by reading 24 current journal articles as well
as attending an additional 60 hours of educational
training per year.

Chiropractic Neurologists are highly qualified
specialists in the brain based therapies and the
nervous system. They have dedicated many years to
study of these systems and are prepared to offer
effective treatment options that do not involve the
use of medications or surgery. If you or a loved one
has a condition related in any way to the brain or
nervous systems control of the body, chiropractic
neurology provides a different approach to basic
chiropractic care.

Spinal Decompression
Spinal Decompression is a highly effective treatment
for neck and low back disc inflammation and
herniation conditions. The process is to apply gentle
progressive decompression to the neck or low back in
one pound increments to achieve a negative vacuum
pressure inside the discs of the spine. This effective
vacuum pressure draws back within the central discs
the extruded material or bulging discs.
With repetitive decompression sessions drawing the
disc material inside the central disc, the herniation
heals and contains the extruded material with the disc
and compression of the nerves is resolved.
The symptoms of disc compression generally involve
neck or back pain with radiation of the pain into arms
or legs. As the decompression therapy is applied, the
arm and leg pain resolves first then later the neck and
low back pain resolves over a period of days or a few
weeks.
Decompression can also be applied to the wrists for
effective treatment of some carpal tunnel syndromes.
We utilize the most modern digital Chattanooga and
Titan decompression equipment available today. Call
us for a test session and see what decompression can
do for you.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy dates back thousands of years in
ancient China. The art and science of massage
includes many techniques and methods in including
Swedish relaxation, athletic deep tissue, myofascial
release, pre-natal, cupping, hot stone, and others. The
highly trained therapists at our offices utilize
numerous techniques based on the client condition
and the session objective.
Therapy starts with the client interview including
review of health history and body systems. The
therapist will discuss with you treatment options
including techniques and duration best indicated for
your condition. Regular sessions of massage therapy
can dramatically change your muscle tone, tension,
posture and circulation as well as other organ and
nervous system benefits.
Clinical indications for massage therapy includes
general stress relief from our work a day world as well
as muscle, ligament, tendons and circulation problems
anywhere in the body. Massage can be received as a
standalone therapy or integrates well with a wellness
program of basic chiropractic, massage, and
reflexology. Four therapists on duty six days a week.
Our massages are delivered in relaxing, clean, quiet
environments as see here on the previous page. The
tables are heavily padded for your comfort with table
warmer pads for your enjoyment.

Peripheral & Diabetic Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy, a result of damage to your
peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness
and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also
affect other areas of your body such as the face and
head. Your peripheral nervous system sends
information from your brain and spinal cord (central
nervous system) to the rest of your body. Peripheral
neuropathy can result from traumatic injuries,
infections, metabolic problems, inherited causes and
exposure to toxins. One of the most common causes is
diabetes mellitus.
People with peripheral neuropathy generally describe
the pain as stabbing, burning or tingling. In many
cases, symptoms improve, especially if caused by a
treatable condition.
28
MyNewSpine.com
Spinal Nerve Compression Neuropathy
Typical Diabetic Neuropathy of the feet
29
MyNewSpine.com
Signs and symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include:
Gradual onset of numbness, prickling or tingling
in your feet or hands, which can spread upward
into your legs and arms
Sharp, jabbing, throbbing, freezing or burning
pain
Extreme sensitivity to touch
Lack of coordination and falling
Muscle weakness or paralysis if motor nerves
are affected
Causes of neuropathies include:
Alcoholism. Poor dietary choices made by
people with alcoholism can lead to vitamin
deficiencies.
Autoimmune diseases. These include Sjogren's
syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Guillain-
Barre syndrome, chronic inflammatory
demyelinating polyneuropathy and necrotizing
vasculitis.
30
MyNewSpine.com
31
MyNewSpine.com
Diabetes. More than half the people with
diabetes develop some type of neuropathy.
Exposure to poisons. Toxic substances include
heavy metals or chemicals.
Medications. Certain medications, especially
those used to treat cancer (chemotherapy), can
cause peripheral neuropathy.
Infections. These include certain viral or
bacterial infections, including Lyme disease,
shingles, Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis C, leprosy,
diphtheria and HIV.
Inherited disorders. Disorders such as Charcot-
Marie-Tooth disease are hereditary types of
neuropathy.
Trauma or pressure on the nerve. Traumas,
such as from motor vehicle accidents, falls or
sports injuries, can sever or damage peripheral
nerves. Nerve pressure can result from having a
cast or using crutches or repeating a motion
such as typing many times.
Tumors. Growths, cancerous (malignant) and
noncancerous (benign), can develop on the
nerves or press nerves. Also, polyneuropathy can
32
MyNewSpine.com
33
MyNewSpine.com
arise as a result of some cancers related to the
body's immune response. These are a form of
paraneoplastic syndrome.
Vitamin deficiencies. B vitamins — including B-1,
B-6 and B-12 — vitamin E and niacin are crucial
to nerve health.
Other diseases. These include kidney disease,
liver disease, connective tissue disorders and an
underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).
Our neuropathy program address these conditions
with intensive therapy of 4-5 modalities designed to
stimulation the neuro – axis from the brain, spinal
column, nerve root, through the extremity to the
hands and feet. This full neuraxis stimulation
promotes axonal flow removing waste products from
the nerves and supplying nutritional support to the
damaged nerve areas at the same time. Modality
selection for your condition is based on presentation
and the underlying cause for your neuropathy.
34
MyNewSpine.com
35
MyNewSpine.com
Modalities might include some of the following
Vestibular brain activation
SSEP brain stimulation
OKN visual saccades or pursuits
BEMER electromagnetic field PEMF therapy
Spinal decompression
Chiropractic neurology
Extremity joint manipulation
Cold laser
High intensity thermal ultrasound
biphasic square wave nerve stimulator
Vibration therapy
Massage Therapy
Reflexology
Heat therapies
Nutritional interventions
Treatments are delivered intensively. Daily or twice
daily for 12 sessions then reevaluated for progress.
We generally perform nerve conduction studies to
assess the speed latencies of the nerve fibers directly.
This eliminates subjective error in reported function.
The nerve conduction testing is also a specialty
trained skill in which we are highly experienced.

developer of the Multi-Modal Therapy System®. He
holds degrees in Biochemistry, Human Anatomy &
Physiology, Fellowship with the Acupuncture Society of
America, and Doctorate degree in Chiropractic. He has
advanced clinical neuroscience Diplomate board
certification through the American Chiropractic Neurology

program through the prestigious Carrick Institute for
Graduate Studies and is a charter member of the
International Association of Functional Neurology and
Rehabilitation. He has over the last twenty years
observed that what is wanted and needed by patients is
a simpler way to understand and talk about their
conditions. After reading numerous neurology texts,
some advanced clinical in nature and some for the lay
person, he observed that the majority of these texts
continue to present neurology in such a complicated
fashion that it does not yield understanding and only
furthers the frustration of patients who seek to
understand their conditions or the conditions of their
family members. Presented here is a simplified, hopefully
understandable, version of neurology for the patient to
understand their conditions, to sensibly talk to their
doctors, and to have a simplified at home therapy option

for developmental delay. Apologies to the neurologists
and functional neurologists reading this text for some
generalizations and assumptions will be made for
simplicity and understanding that don’t precisely
correspond to the factual neurology of the topic. The
importance of having understanding of condition
outweighs some liberties he takes in describing the
neurology and how it functions. He appreciates those of
you were working in the field of functional neurology and
gives thanks and recognition to mentors and colleagues.
Thank you for your interest in learning more about developmental delay concepts. The concepts here are
very rapidly changing in scope and nature. I He has
endeavored to present a simplified way of thinking and
understanding one’s condition so that you may talk to
your doctor and have a do it yourself option for home
therapy for yourself or loved one. The hope for this book
is it will significantly reduce the amount of confusion you
have concerning your condition. Many of the
neurologically complex circuitry and pathways have been
removed from the discussion. An attempt to explain
conditions and how the nervous system physiology
works in a way that is understandable for most patients.
He will eliminate for the most part developmental
embryological and unnecessarily complicated electrical
schematics for the purposes of understanding as you go
through the material. He will identify more generally the
nature of the condition and encourage you not to become
frustrated, but to understand that the nervous system in
its grand complexities can also be understood in a
simplicity. Effective functional neurological treatment
protocols can be highly successful. Current medical
neurological approaches of drug interventions and
symptomatic relief are not the only options in
development delay treatment. He will tell you factually
60

that there exists an innate intelligence in the body to alter
both its function and structure. It just needs a bit of
targeted stimulation to resume normal function. The
companion therapy manual for this book is also available
on Amazon.com and contains all the evaluation and
therapy protocols for developmental delay conditions
described in this book. You will after reading this book
have a good grasp of developmental delay conditions,
the primitive reflexes which need therapy, the
hemisphere of the brain in delay in you or your loved one
and the basic outline of my multi modal therapy system.
So let’s begin the description of developmental delay and
what can be done about it.

understand and talk about their conditions. After reading
numerous neurology texts, some advanced clinical in
nature and some for the lay person, I observed that the
majority of these texts continue to present neurology in
such a complicated fashion that it does not yield
understanding and only furthers the frustration of patients
who seek to understand their conditions or the conditions
of their family members. I am presenting here a
simplified, hopefully understandable, version of
neurology for the patient to understand their conditions,
to sensibly talk to their doctors, and to have a simplified
at home therapy option for developmental delay. I
apologize to the neurologists and functional neurologists
reading this text for some generalizations and
assumptions will be made for simplicity and
understanding that don’t precisely correspond to the
factual neurology of the topic. I think the importance of
having understanding of condition outweighs some
liberties I will take in describing the neurology and how it
functions. I appreciate those of you were working in the
field of functional neurology and I give thanks and
recognition to my mentors and my colleagues. Thank you

for your interest in learning more about developmental
delay concepts. The concepts here are very rapidly
changing in scope and nature. I have endeavored to
present a simplified way of thinking and understanding
one’s condition so that you may talk to your doctor and
have a do it yourself option for home therapy for yourself
or loved one. I hope this book will significantly reduce the
amount of confusion you have concerning your condition.
Many of the neurologically complex circuitry and
pathways have been removed from the discussion. I will
attempt to explain conditions and how the nervous
system physiology works in a way that is understandable
for most patients. I will eliminate for the most part
developmental embryological and unnecessarily
complicated electrical schematics for the purposes of
understanding as you go through the material. I will
identify more generally the nature of the condition and
encourage you not to become frustrated, but to
understand that the nervous system in its grand
complexities can also be understood in a simplicity.
Effective functional neurological treatment protocols can
be highly successful. Current medical neurological
approaches of drug interventions and symptomatic relief
are not the only options in development delay treatment.
I will tell you factually that there exists an innate
intelligence in the body to alter both its function and
structure. It just needs a bit of targeted stimulation to
resume normal function. The companion therapy manual
for this book is also available on
BrainMatrixInstitute.com, DentonDiagnostics.com, and
contains all the evaluation and therapy protocols for
developmental delay conditions described in this book.
You will after reading this book have a good grasp of
developmental delay conditions, the primitive reflexes

which need therapy, the hemisphere of the brain in delay
in you or your loved one and the basic outline of my multi
modal therapy system. So let’s begin the description of
developmental delay and what can be done about it.
I am convinced more so than ever, that the plasticity of
the human brain is almost limitless. I encourage you to
begin your journey first with understanding then with
action. These books are here to guide you.
All my best wishes go with you.
